Republicans just say no... to everything.

"That it made, that it made it so much easier to then defeat his health care initiative. So, it's very important for Republicans who think they're going to have to fight later on health care, fight later on maybe on some of the bank bailout legislation, fight later on on all kinds of issues."
And so, as the chart above reveals, it came to pass.
Time after time, President Obama could count the votes he received from Congressional Republicans on the fingers (usually the middle one) of one hand"

I remember before Obummer waS s elected, the fear and apprehension that he would actually win the White House was palpable. His color ( genetically he is much more white than black but that is another matter) had nothing to do with this fear and apprehension. It was an examination of what he said and has stood for over the years. He needs to be obstructed. I said, before Limbaugh, that I wanted Obummer to fail. I did not want him to succeed in bringing his politics to fruition. This desire to see him fail has nothing to do with race although he has done more to drive a wedge between the races than anything.

Your desire to see him fail is a desire for you to be right in what you believe, nothing more nothing less.
If all of the things that he spoke of on the campaign trail ended up happening, the economy would be humming. Unfortunately, NONE of it has, and the economy is in the shitter still.
Ever considered that Obama's failure to enact anything progressive may be the reason the economy still sucks?
I mean, the tax cuts are still intact, no single payer, still in both wars, etc. etc.
If we had enacted all of these things and the economy still sucked, then you would be right. Unfortunately, the policies you support have been what has carried us through almost the entirety of this century so far with disastrous results.
Enjoy realizing that you just self contradicted.

Try.. President Obama or hell, even Obama would do. Stop acting like a 3 yr old child. This is why no one takes you seriously.

His desires and some of what he has actually done, referring to the tax rates, are two different things. We will never know if everything he wanted to do on the campaign would have made thngs better although that too, is a subjective evaluation. Better to me is limited government, more individual freedom, more fiscal responsibility. These things are not Obummers mantra therefore yes, I would like to see him fail. As the results of what he does lag behind his rhetoric, the rhetoric is what we have to go on.
Being progressive, as you put it will not cure the economy. The uncertainty about where the country is going, people are afraid of what tax policies he would enact although with a Republican House keeping him in check that is less of a worry, plus the huge amount of comliance costs, another "progressive" feature, are what is contributing greatly to the downslide. - 8 months ago

What's the matter, don't like Obummer? Do you refer to the Tea Party as Tea Baggers? You took me seriously enough to reply. Actually, when your kind stops referring to the Tea Party as Tea Baggers and you engage in conversation with people here you disagree with in the civil manner Obummer (ooops I said it again) called for earlier this year then I will respond itn kind. Until then he is Obummer, BHO, Barry Soetoro or whatever. Have a nice day.

They named themselves teabaggers. You and the teabaggers can try and walk it back all.day.long. If they didn't want to be called teabaggers, they should have picked a different name.

How the hell do you know? Last time it was tried it worked terrifically. Obama hasn't done squat, and we are in exactly the same place we were a few months after the bailouts and the stimulus. Stable, but miserable.
Things got incrementally better until... hum... I guess November of 2010. Gee, what happened then?

I saw many "Impeach Obama" bumper stickers here before the man was even inaugurated. Nobody wants to remember all the good things that have come out of this Administration, only what he didn't manage to do that is dear to their hearts. A huge majority of Americans have a entitled mentality these days -- they want, what they want, when they want it. They have no concept of working to achieve something, or that there might be obstacles to that achievement.
Poor Mr. Obama, Limbaugh called him the "Magic negro," but it is the left that is expecting him to perform magic, or rather to perform miracles.

I agree and I've been guilty of it myself. I do realize the good he has done and I know that republicans and their BS is what is holding up progress. I just get so frustrated when it seems he is holding on to the dream of bi partisanship from republicans. Sometimes I just gotta take a deep breath and think.. he's doing the best he can under the circumstances.

I understand the frustration, having fallen victim to it myself a time or two. However, I have learned to stop and question myself --- am I using my intellect to reason through the problem, or my lizard brain?
Why does this President insist on pursuing bi-partisanship? I think he really takes it seriously that he is the President of all the United States, meaning all the people. Also, keep in mind he is our first "black" president. That means so significant psycho-social dynamics the others never had to deal with. Racism never left the USA, it simply went underground. Racism is really nothing other than the manifestation of fear of the other. What is the GOP's favorite weapon? FEAR!
Okay so now you have a black man who has successfully navigated his way through his childhood, the public education system, and the ivy league. As a Black man, you don't do that by being contentious and divisive. Who was more successful ultimately in bringing about meaningful civil rights legislation, Martin Luther King or The Black Panthers? If you make people afraid, you have lost before you have even begun. Also, remember, it took many a year to get the civil rights amendment -- not something that happened over night.
Extremism, regardless of from what direction is comes will ultimately fail in this country. For example: The ASPCA has done far more on a practical level to protect animals from inhumane treatment than PETA ever will. Why? Because, PETA uses horror (even though it is true horror) and sets standards that are not possible to meet. We will not ever be able to convince all of humanity that the use of animals for any purpose, be it, as beast of burden, as a food source, as companions (pets), or using any animal product from wool to leather, is morally wrong.
Obama may very well win the day and do even greater things for us, simply by allowing the GOP to expose their agenda for what it is -- enriching the wealthy at the expense of everyone else. But only if we keep our heads while they are losing their minds.

I think the great majority of people are beginning to catch on to the GOP. My biggest concern though is the divisions among the progressives. Anarchy will get us nowhere -- and libertarians scare the hell out of me. We have so many people who call themselves libertarians but still want all the services that government provides, they just don't understand the libertarian agenda.

My husband talked to a guy at work the other day who claims he is a democrat..."voted democrat all my life!" is what he said. He also said that Obama hasn't done anything and that if it were a Perry/Paul ticket that is who he would vote for.
Now that is scary. Either he was lying about his political affiliation or..he has completely lost his mind.

LMAO, I bet the guy really has always been a Democrat. This is exactly what I mean -- Obama has overcome so many things is this last 2 1/2 years. There is so little consideration gone into peoples opinions, everyone reacts from an emotional starting point and do not stop to think what the real consequences will be. It won't be the GOP that defeats Obama, it will be the progressives.

To those who don't have their ideological blinders on, this is not news. We've seen republicans put party first over and over again. Anyone who thinks republicans are doing what is best for the country are fooling themselves. Republicans only goal is to take Obama down.. by any means necessary. Even if it means destroying the country.

...and they are doing it quite successfully. How many supposed progressives have you seen commenting on how they just can't trust Obama so they will vote third party? I have seen many many. I hope they will all enjoy another Republican Administration, if they thought W was bad, they ain't seen nothing yet.
