A vocal crowd of about 75 anti-war protesters confronted war criminal former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. He made an appearance at Old South Meeting House to promote his new book.It was sponsored by right wing radio station WRKO.
Guarded by armed park police and Boston police(with a bomb sniffing dog), the cowardly Rumsfeld was sneaked in the side entrance to avoid the protesters. He was charging $50 for admission and a signed book.
5 anti-war protesters infiltrated the hall and accused Rumsfeld to his face of being a war criminal; they were shouted down by the reactionary pro-war audience and removed by the police.
Out front, the protesters challenged and confronted the line of people going into the Rumsfeld talk.
Veterans For Peace members accused the attendees of supporting war crimes and argued with several pro-war veterans. Amid chants of "hey Rumsfeld you can't hide, we charge you with genocide" and "arrest war criminal Rumsfeld" several heated discussions occured between protesters and attendees.Women's peace group Code Pink was there as well as a contingent of the International Socialist Organization.Local peace activist Carlos Arredondo drove his anti-war logo truck past the protest several times-his son was killed in Iraq.
2 catholic priests who were in line were confronted with questions of how they can be religious and support war--also one protester asked them "who would Jesus bomb?"
There was one arrest of a peaceful protester with a bull horn; he was viciously attacked by a Boston cop for no reason.A group of concerned protesters went down to the police station to try to bail him out.
