By Sherry Pasquarello,WWH – (Pittsburgh in the 60′s) Everyone has their own ideas of what beauty is. Just go to a museum or art show with a group of 5 and every one of them will have their own favorites. There will be a few art pieces everyone can agree is an example of it too, but most have specific tastes. These tastes may have changed over the years or stayed the same for decades.

    • I remember talking to a staggeringly rich, yet rather engaging (if you didn't mind the air being sucked out the room) conservative industrialist and self-published author, (he laughed about losing 30 million in one day's trading and he was actually a bit miffed that George W.Bush didn't ask him to contribute to his inaugural address) and telling him I really liked Herbert Hoover's apocalyptic campaign warning about the possible election of Franklin Rooselvelt.
      He asked why.
I related that Hoover warned: "Grass will grow in the streets of America!"
I said that's a beautiful vision I could fully support.

    • "Ever look at the windows and old brick and mortar of a tenement building. Take notice of the way nothing is really squared true. Every building and rooftop is unique. "

I remember this wall in Old Town, Chicago. It was a wall of old multi-colored doors, and for some reason it was left standing, and I always thought it was so beautiful in the middle of all the rest of the perfectly squared "built" environment. I don't know if it's still there, but it was awesome. I also remember riding the train into the city with my grandparents when I was a little kid, and I can still remember the wonder of coming to the scrap tin piles outside of the factories on the outskirts of the city. The sun would hit that scrap metal, and for a kid, it was like you were entering the land of Oz through a different door.

      good post, danka...
