DOJ Subsidizing Cali Gangs With Dispensary Shutdown: MPP

Despite campaign promises not to spend limited law enforcement resources interfering with state medical marijuana laws and a 2009 Department of Justice policy directive against targeting individuals acting in compliance with state medical marijuana laws, the U.S. Attorneys signaled that they now intend to prosecute individuals who provide that medicine to patients under safe, regulated conditions.

"How can the Obama administration say that it's fine for sick people to use this proven medicine, and yet tell them they can't have any legal place to get it?" asked Rob Kampia, executive director MPP. "Medical marijuana isn't going away. Over 70 percent of Americans support making medical marijuana legal, and 16 states allow it."

"The end result of the federal government's policy is to ensure that medical marijuana is sold illegally in most parts of the country, as well as to create needless suffering for patients who can't find a place to buy medical marijuana," Kampia said.

Since 2009, eight states have enacted or implemented laws that set high standards and strict regulations on medical marijuana dispensing, moving away from previous "gray market" models that lacked licensing or regulations.

During the previous administration, targeting providers in California did not prevent marijuana profiteers from operating. Instead, a federal policy of interference with state medical marijuana laws pushed states towards programs with confusing legal gray areas and little to no control over the operation of providers.

    • The justice department needs nearly a complete house cleaning...we can't allow the gov't to underwrite organized crime any longer...we had an 18 year lesson at the start of the 20th century (that has been conveniently forgotten) that clearly illustrates what happens when we try to solve socioeconomic problems through prohibitive means...Damn this shit gets old.

    • Shouldn't it be the other way around, they should look into the pharmaceutical companies that are making billions by getting people hooked on prescription drug.

And the voter is shut down by cries of "radical conspiracy theorist!" (funny how "free speech" is ok to use to call the Prez a Nazi, but "cannot" be used to expose drug company use of the law to make money or the misery that such practices cause in Mexico and America. How many more innocents need to die before this "Prohibition Mack II" is shut down? Watch PBS "Prohibition" to see today, yesterday! ;-)

Hi Intro.., I hope you'll excuse me because I really don't mean to be offensive. You and I are on the same side - I don't want to alienate you. None the less, you don't help the movement by saying the plant is natural. Of course it is. So is the poppy. And while the poppy starts out natural, heroin & morphine are not cool at all. They enslave the user. That's why our Govt. classifies Marijuana as being the same. They paint this big horrible picture and it's not true. So what nature provides misses the point. The point is, that marijuana is non-addictive, has caused 0 deaths on record, and should be a viable alternative to alcohol. Not to mention legal for consumption.

    • I've said this before and I'm going to keep on saying it until our government and their ever popular war on drugs, leaves our sick citizens alone!!

If they want to mess with me and all my cohorts that believe in the recreational use of pot, then so be it. This is NOT the same as medical marijuana.

The FDA gave it the best shot they could by denying samples of legal marijuana for research, to legitimate universities and research centers. This is a fact.

In spite of this the citizens of our country became aware that marijuana does indeed have beneficial medical properties; contrary to what the FDA would have us believe. Chemo-therapy - aids - numerous others. Citizens suffering these situations derive genuine benefit from the use of Marijuana. Folks taking Chemo have a hard time keeping food down. Marijuana helps - other prescription drugs don't.

So now the fed wants to force our sick people to turn to the illegal drug market to get a little relief? These folks don't CARE about the illegal market and want no part of it. They WOULD like relief of their symptoms. So for them, seeking relief would entail making themselves subject to arrest and prosecution? This is America? This is fit for farmers to spread on their fields. Home of the free and land of the stupid?

I don't give a diddly damn what they do with their war on drugs. But I do know this. To deny relief to someone that's ill, is cruel and unusual punishment. We're supposed to help sick people - NOT punish them.

      HELLO???

However, the pharmaceutical cos. don't want that pandora's box of medical need relief coming from any source other than themselves, and don't dismiss the pressure from the alcohol industry that is also putting their dollar foot on the lid of the pandora box that has any chance of easing restrictions on marijuana use. This has always been, and remains, an issue of insuring continued campaign contributions from big pharma and alcohol. Campaign finance and influence peddling is the culprit and only their reforms will remedy the larger problem.

    • That's just the way the government likes it. There is an unspoken agreement. For the most part the Cartels are allowed to illegally sells drugs, with the exception of a few high profile drug busts the government does for PR reasons to show Americans how they are winning the war on drugs.

Also the private prison industry needs more citizens. In the end both government and the cartels are just two heads of the same mafia.
