Michael Moore's Plea to Police Officers to Join #OccupyWallStreet (10/14/11)

KB723
"The police need to join us in the same way the Egyptian army joined the people in Freedom Square there in Cairo. This is my appeal to the New York Police Department -- to police departments all over the country: You are working class people. You're not paid enough. You have the most dangerous job in the country and these rich bastards on Wall Street, they have ruined your 401Ks, your pension funds, your future, your children's future. Money that should be going to having better law enforcement has gone to needless wars in other lands. So, my appeal to the police is, you are as and we are you. Join us. It's fun. We'll even let you beat on a bongo drum." -- Michael Moore on Lawrence O'Donnell's The very Last Word, Friday, October 14th, 2011

"I have to hand it to the Police... Whether they agree or disagree, at least they have been Civil to the Protestors that have not gotten out of Hand!!!"

    • Hey Mike, don’t get your hopes up. From the comments that I have been hearing from New York’s “Finest”, they don’t give a hoot about the protesters. I heard a cop on Friday tell someone that the protest was just about life not being fair, and that we should get over it. The smiles that may have been detected on some “bluebloods” near the beginning, are turning into weary expressions of resigned indignation. I saw squadrons of scooter riding police descending on some location, who knows where, as they rode down Broadway on Friday, this having come after the morning’s arrests near Wall Street proper. Their new tactic is to ride in formation into the crowd that spills into the street, like the mounted cops used to do in the past. This is not exactly the behavior of individuals who are warming to the cause. The “forbidden” zone around the Stock Exchange is still in place, and “Checkpoint Charlies” are at every street leading into it, demanding “papers” from all who enter. If anything, the cops are settling in, raking in the overtime, and looking forward to a great holiday spending season, for themselves. Also, many "white shirts" are still being caught on camera, punching and whipping night sticks. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

    • I've been wondering why the police haven't realized that they are us as well. I can't understand when any police force willingly oppresses their own people. I just don't get it. I hope they realize this and join us instead of cracking skulls to keep their own brothers and sisters and descendants down. I hope everyone who belongs to the 99% comes together. We have to realize we are one. Everyone, from the left, from the right, and from the center. We have to stop letting the elite divide us against ourselves.

      E pluribus unum!

    • MM is a puppet of the NWO... (lmao) I don't even think he sees it...

He's right about many things, but if anyone thinks they are usurping the power of the movement for a political party..... They've got life in a blender, the movement is a response to politics not an extension of them....

    • Watching the NYPD actions against OWS participants really chaps my ass!! I have been trained in several riot and people moving plans. NYPD apparently just wrote a new plan, which is not good, for anyone. In the aftermath, there better be a change in NYPD administration from the top down. Blumberg better pay attention!
When I recall the WTO riots in Seattle, Watts, Isla Vista and Diablo Canyon(which I worked as a cop), and see what other police dept's are doing in this, compared to NYPD, it is very scary what the NYPD is doing. "Riot" Police in other cities, outfitted in helmets and shields are moving people the right way, while protecting themselves. The shields and helmets are for thier protection. Running protesters over with horses and motorcycles has never been an option in my time.
The protesters, for the most part, have been very docile and not breaking windows, burning cars and shooting guns. These are the most respectfull protesters ever! The authorities should treat them in kind. The police can do thier job respectfully.
If this is what NYC is like, I am taking it off my bucket list of places to see before I die.........

    • Michael Moore is always on the correct side in my book. And that is why he is one of KO's contributers. Also, IMO, KO has been covering OWS as well or better than anyone in the media. He was on this story early and often, devoting last night's show entirely to OWS.

We have all had a story to share with the Cops... Odd that we do not Punish folks for doing Bad things, we only Punish those Caught doing Bad things, even that has very little Merit these days.... I do not see any of the Wall Street criminals doing time...

Police officers are there to enforce the Law, not to make folks do what is right or wrong... They too are human and not God...

You are talking of Apples and Oranges... I work in the private sector and probably make the same wage, they do... I do not have to go out on a Limb to save anybodies Cat, or even have to Pull over a Drunk Driver, that could be whacked on Meth and have a Gun... Nor am I a Teacher...

    • From my perspective, speaking only for myself, Mr Moore is one of the few voices of sanity to have a regular public forum to voice his views. There are more (and the numbers are *slowly* growing), but they are too few, and too far between.
