His size is impressive, but his words were much more so! He reminded the cops that as someone who had just been risking death so our country could be free, it was shocking to him, as it should be to all America, that peaceful protesters could be so badly abused by their government! Shame on the Mayor, the Governor and the President if he allows these abuses of human rights to continue!

The guilt trip comes from the fact that many of these cops are probably vets themselves. They know exactly where he's coming from.

good thought, but definitely not true. most cops are guys which control complexes who got out of college or high school and couldn't think of what they wanted to do so they just became cops. most vets are guys from the middle of the country who after high school have no clue what to do so they join the armed forces. NYC are I'd guess 99% veteran free. the cops down there are just total meat heads, brainwashed into protecting these financial entities that run the country. they don't know why they're beating these protesters, though they get off on it and validate their sense of self worth with each swing

This too may be the beginning of "something"- the crowd cheered & they shook his hand when he walked away - having more Veterans would add a great legitimacy dimension to OWS!

What this Marine will learn the hard way is this:
A Marine was so ignorant they couldn't trust him with a weapon, so they gave him a stick. He asked, "What do I do with this?". They said to point it at the enemy and say, "Bangity, bangity, bang!". He asked, "What if I run out of bullets?" They then stuck a nail in the end of the stick saying it was a bayonette and told him to jab it at the enemy and say, "Stabbity, stabbity, stab!". So he goes off to war and finds himself on a battle field and sees his first enemy combatant coming forward to his position. A great big enemy combatant! He stands up from his foxhole and yells out, "Bangety, bangety, bang!". But the enemy combatant keeps coming! When the enemy combatant got close enough the Marine jabbed his stick at him and said, "Stabbity, stabbity, stab!". But this did not affect the enemy combatant in the least! As the enemy combatant was beating the Marine nearly to death with his fists, the poor Marine heard the enemy combatant say, "Tankity, tankity, tank!"
The moral of the story is...
"Take heart, there's always someone bigger and more ignorant than you when it comes to going off to war or keeping so-called "peace" at home!".
The police have what they call a "swarm effect" and would be able to bring down King Kong if need be. Or tazers can do the "job", too. Or the "hard way"...batons.
I can hear him now saying, "Don't taze me, Bro!".
But they will do it anyway...no matter how many medals you have pinned to your chest.
Sad, but true.

What greater symbol for freedom is there than those who've sacrificed their lives to pay for that freedom? I believe the greatest feat that this protest could obtain is to raise the awareness in the US that something is very, very wrong on the home front. People are overseas risking their lives for their "country", while a small few make a profit from it.
Those at the top reaped RECORD BREAKING profits in 2009, and 2010. And in 2011 job opportunities are still no better.
These "job creators" are hiring, but they hire overseas where there's cheaper labor, so that they can make even more money for themselves and their investors. They have no sense of loyalty to the US to hire locally...their only loyalty is to the Almighty Dollar.God Bless our troops, and those they fight for.

"i have noticed your posts on the occupation are always subtly negative. just saying. i just find it.. provocative..", so sayeth Itsbatman_Durr.
No they're NOT!
I have been out protesting with my little sign that reads, "Look For The Union Label"...supporting the "Cause" with REAL MONEY....sending off emails, snail mail AND phoning MY Representatives in Ohio AND Washington, D.C..
All I see from you is one post after another that is numbingly redundant.
Do YOU march?
Do YOU make monetary donations?
Do YOU call, write and make NOISE, or are you a couch-potato posting over and over again what others are actually doing? If you are doing something...let us know! I want to hear someone's OWN experiences....
And like I said, with you posting so many of these on the community board, I do believe you're causing people's eyes to glaze over with all of them.
I suugest you post just a few less but put more information into them....and ADD some of YOURSELF into them. Like, you DO have an opinion, right?
Let's hear it.
Copy and Paste is nice...but I want to hear some REAL communication from you....not all this plagiarised stuff.
Original stuff....okidoki?
And if a dose of reality is too much for you...you're being provocative by stating how I'm negative.
Life isn't all positive, friend...I take my reality without any sugar coating on it.

One more thang....I used to try to post very informative comments on EACH AND EVERY one of thses you would post on the "board" until you wore even ME down...and then I asked you why you posted so many and your answer to me was, "I don't expect people to leave a response. I just want them to read what I post."
One-way was your idea...right?
So, I STOPPED responding to ALL of them and after a hiatus, I post a comment and then I get a "nasty-gram" from you about my latest post?
I say, "Last call for this dude."
And peace to you and yours, too.

I don't know you and you do not know me, either. I was demonstrating against the Vietnam Conflict back in 1968 and was part of the March On Washington on November 15th, 1969, and was teargassed and chased by the what we called "pigs"...namely ARMED police and barely escaped being arrested for exercising my right to protest against the injustices of the unholy marriage between big business and the government. My history...my memories are as fresh today as they were 42 years ago. I can STILL smell the "gas"...
After returning from Washington, my employer fired me, me father practically disowned me for my being a member of the Moratorium Movement and then to top it all off ROYALLY...I received my draft notice...the "love letter" many aberage, ordinary young men got from Uncle Sam.
Less than six months into my "duty to the country", Governor James A. Rhodes sent the National Guard to Kent State Univerisiy where four were BRUTALLY KILLED AND eleven were injured, some severely...quadriplegically speaking....which made me agonize over what in the Hell was I doing wearing the uniform of the country that just six months prior I was marching against and now found myself marching for.
The events of the time were not joyous. I felt such a conflict within my very soul, but I faced adveristy with integrity and honor.
I grew mentally, emotionally AND spiritually. It molded me into who I am today.
My "time" has come and gone.
It's YOUR time to pick up the guantlet and march on.
I only hope that after four and a half decades you will not have to suffer disrespect and belittled for what you do today by the young generation that comes after you and tries to tell you how what you did isn't "relevant" any more. Questioning YOUR abilities to protest a tryannical government. How that was then and this is now sort of attitude.
You should have been there! 500,000 souls with the same common thought shared.
I'll NEVER forget.

Thank you!
I didn't get to hear any words that resembled a "thank you" back during 1969 and 1973...even though my service to this country was FOISTED upon me via a "love letter" I got from Uncle Sam and the Selective Service Board!
One of my two sons served, I served, my father served (Korean Conflict) and on my mother's, mother's, mother's. mother's side they served all the way back to the Civil and Revolutionary Wars.
However, on my father's "side" of the family, well, they fought AGAINST this country! And many died. But those that were of the indigenous peoples did what they could to keep what little they had but the "white man" felt differently about things.
They were called "insurgents". Others called them NDNs.

I was wondering there for a while...
I don't care to toot my own horn about what I did in the past. What counts today is what one DOES today.
And I'm dancing and singing as fast and loudly as my old, tired and worn out body can muster!
I have and will be addng my jot and tittle to the "cause". Whatever I can, whenever I can.
Power To The People!

hmm its the simple tactic but the most effective.. embarrassment which if done well renders authority unable to justify not only its methods but its own existence..
take notes friends this is one of many ways to "challenge" the system...
