This is true. When Reagan fired the air traffic controllers, and lowered tax rates, we didn't hear this language in the mainstream press. (However the progressive press, and progressive authors, were on top of this at the time. Magazines like Dissent, and the author Michael Harrington, told it like it was, and very few cared to listen.)

You have a point. Maybe it is because unless the cops see something going on that is illegal, they can't arbitrarily walk amongst, and harass, the occupiers on private property, even though it is deemed a public space. But, you are right, to make the major point, we should be allowed on city property without permits, curfews, and cop aggression. In New York City, there is a lot of input from stodgy "conservancies", like in Central Park, where the zoo admission is a hefty $18. This makes it cost prohibitive for poorer people to take their kids there. (It is also located near the upper east side.) The New York Public Library is a combination of public/private also, with selective admission to certain collections. So, to make my point, our public money gets channeled through these privately controlled organizations where rich matrons dictate policy. http://sibob.org/wordpress/
