The Republican Debates, The President’s Solutions, And The Need for A Progressive Alternative

Published: Tuesday 18 October 2011
Republicans are debating again tomorrow night. And once again, Americans will hear the standard regressive litany: government is bad, Medicare and Medicaid should be cut, “Obamacare” is killing the economy, undocumented immigrants are taking our jobs, the military should get more money, taxes should be lowered on corporations and the rich, and regulations should be gutted.
Four years ago the most widely-watched TV debate among Republican aspirants attracted 3.2 million viewers. This year it’s almost twice that number. And for every viewer assume a multiplier effect as he or she shares what’s heard with friends and family.
Americans are listening more intently this time around because they’re hurting and they want answers. But the answers they’re getting from Republican candidates – tripping over themselves trying to appeal to hard-core regressives – are the wrong ones.
The correct ones aren’t being aired.

WOW! Someone must really like my comments to "down" them!
I'm not going to waste a New York second wondering who it could be. I just hope they are having fun doing it!
If someone doesn't care or agree with what I post, so be it. I know that I would defend anyone for THEIR RIGHT to expound their beliefs.
I am one of those Americans that will defend EVERYONE'S right to free speech, even if i don't give a hoot about hearing it. It's my right to tell anyone that, too.
But I wouldn't "down" your comment because of it!
The asshole that's in this video is one I would never agree with. But even Alex Jones has the same right to freedom of speech just as much as I do...

I JUST got through arguing with Progresshiv about this very same subject!
I offered him to bet the "bank" on who he BELIEVES will win the presidential election on November 6TH, 2012.
The offer can include you, too!
I bet that either a DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN will be president.
Your choice would be NONE OF THE ABOVE.
As I told him....just let me know how much money you want to lose.
Because a Third party candidate will not win. For one, it's too late for one to get into the race now. Two, anyone will half a brain knows a Third Party candidate has as much chance to win as a snowball has holding it together in Hell.
Doesn't ANYONE understand how politics works in America today? Who would throw away their money handing it over to a Third Party candidate?
Even Ralph Nader sat this one out!
It takes beaucoup bucks to even THINK about putting a campaign together! 2008 changed the whole political spectrum........it takes $500,000,000.00 to think about getting to the end of a general election! AFTER the Primaries, BIG MONEY will enter the fray.
So...what's left for you all to hang your hats on? A "write it" campaign? ROTFLMBFAO!
Reality....it's spelled R E A L I T Y.

In 2000 those that voted for Nader KNEW that Nader wasn't going to win the election and they didn't care about Gore or Bush (they were both the same).
Using this premise, people will vote for a 3rd party candidate if they are unsatisfied with the candidates from the two main parties.

It's a classic case of them deciding to go with their principle.
That's fine...so long as the rest of us don't have to live with their choice. But we did.
If Gore had won, I don't think we would have gone to war with Iraq. We would not have had to borrow nearly a trillion dollars from China to GIVE to the wealthy.
The meltdown that happened September 2008 would have been treated differently..IF it had happened at all!
There ARE repercussions for actions. I don't care what you do if it does not affect me.
But when people vote Third Party and it DOES affect me both financially and with my lost freedoms...i.e., that damn Patriot Act, then I have a BIG problem with that.
And what Ralph Nader did in 2000, he did again in 2004!
The number of votes were mere hundreds in the total count between Gore and Bush. Nearly one hundred thousand voted for Nader. If he had not run, those votes would either have gone for Gore or had not been made in the first place.
Nader cost us, the working class DEARLY.
Think what life would have been like today if George W. Bush had not become president.
So, here we have the same bullshit about to happen all over again! Just because some will vote their conscience and if a Republican walks into the Oval Office with the idea he has a Mandate to kill SS and MediCare AND reduce UI to a few weeks, the EPA is shut down, public education is closed down, the FDA and USDA is shuttered (and by this action unsafe food finds its way to your plate), OSHA is done away with and you will work in an unsafe environment, air - water and the soil can be polluted because there's no one to police the Koch Brothers and them spewing and spilling waste into each, the Post Offices are closed, no regulations of any kind to speak of, offshore drilling in deep water and another Gulf oil spill happens or off the coast of Florida or California, bridges and roads fall in or down...then what are you Third Party voters going to tell yourselves and the rest of us who will have to live with what those that did throw away their vote by not voting for the Democrat?
OOOPS...sorry about that?
THINK people...don't any of you see what the Republican governors are doing in those "Red States"? Like here in Ohio? Or Wisconsin? Florida? Michigan? Texas? South Carolina? Need I go on?
Do you believe that a Republican president will be any better? Public sector unions can kiss their uncollective, unbargaining asses goodbye!
As we, the working middle AND the poor will be doing, too!
But I'm NOT worried about myself. I'm retired and have my nest egg intact. I am self-sufficient. I'm prepared. I've got some jingle in my pockets.
But I AM worried about all my brothers and sisters that aren't! What are they going to do?
What are YOU going to do? I'd say, "Get ready! It's going to be a very bumpy ride!".

You can say it was thrown away, but it is only because I did not vote for your canidate of choice. It is not meaningless, you just recognized it for what it is yourself, a protest against the party canidates. You can be a party to the two-party monopoly that gives us a choice of the lessor of two evils everytime if you want to, but I refuse to vote for someone I do not think should be in office just because of the letter behind their name on the ballot. I do not just think there should be a third party, I think there should be a fourth and a fifth. Then we would see democracy. What we have now is a thinly veiled tyranny, as the last two occupants of the White House have well proven, neither of whom I voted for.

I want.....I really do.....I NEED a President that will do EVERYTHING on my "wish list". The problem I see is that NOT one Republican is against ANYTHING on this list. I doubt I could find even ONE Democrat that would be for them all!
Unless........it could be Mrs. Elizabeth Warren and Alan Grayson? Just wonderin' out loud.
My List:
1) JOBS
2) Living wages paid for work performed
3) End to predatory lending
4) End to exorbitant usery interests on:
a) Revolving credit card loans
b) Interest charged for installment loans
c) Interest charged for car loans
d) Interest charged for student loans
e) Interest charged for "line of credit" loans
5) End to deficient interest earned on:
a) End to idiotic interest earned on checking accounts
b) End to idiotic interest earned for savings accounts
c) End to idiotic interest earned for IRA/Roth/CDs
6) End to ridiculous "customer service" fees
7) End to the hoarding of Bank/Financial Institution funds for:
a) Small business loans
b) Refinancing of home mortgages to reflect actual values, i.e., "underwater loans"
c) Refinancing of student loans
8) Extension to U.I. UNTIL the job market improves - no matter how long it takes
9) Retraining for job skills required for today's workforce
10) End to outrageous CEO compensation and "golden parachutes"
11) End to tax breaks for the 2% which is being borrowed from China, Japan, et al
12) End to tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas
13) Close ALL tax loopholes used by corporations
14) Close offshore accounts that are used to avoid taxation of those funds
15) Stop states from competing for businesses with other states by offering "sweetheart" tax breaks and incentives for employment, road access/building, land deals - all of which does nothing but cheat the "host state" from revenue that would be earned and go into the general fund to support government services that must be made up with taxes on its citizenry which is realized as "lost revenue" of the previous "host state" that lost out in the process. Swapping workforces from one state to another does no good for the country as a whole. If a company wishes to relocate, they should bear the burden of the cost alone. Not be supplimented by the "winning bidder" state. Also not permit these tactics from being used by foreign companies wanting to open up businesses in the U.S.
16) End ALL subsidies that unfairly keeps commodities at artifical price levels
17) End ALL farm subsidies that pays farmers from using farmland to grow produce.
18) Prevent opening up of National Preserve/Park land from exploration for oil/gas/coal
19) Prevent the use of National Preserve/Park land from being used for transportation pipelines for oil/gas
20) Prevent offshore drilling near protected/designated areas or reserves
21) Prevent deepwell drilling
22) Prevent Arctic drilling in sensitive areas
23) Strengthen regulations of the Banking industry
24) Reinstatement of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1932
25) Reinforce the Social Security Trust Fund
26) Universal Healthcare - to be supported by employer and workforce contributions
27) Reinforce Voter Rights - ensure all votes cast come with a receipt guaranteeing accuracy
28) Term limits for ALL Elected Offices - it's used for the presidency - it's good enough for all
29) Do away with lifetime appointments of the SCOTUS
30) Gun control - semi OR automatic weapons banned - hunting/protection guns ONLY
31) Public transportation improvements - high speed and commuter rail services
32) Rebuilding of ALL infrastructures, i.e, bridges, roads, dams, levies and overflows
33) Communications services for 100% of the country, i.e., REAL high speed broadband
34) Clean Air Act to be beefed up.
35) EPA to have the authority to use preventative actions and for cleanup services
35) Mandate fuel efficiency for ALL vehicles, INCLUDING trucking transportation
36) Closing of ALL nuclear reactor facilities - NO EXCUSES
37) Cut the funds that support the MIC and its insane production of weapons thereby reducing the amount of weapons that find their way to countries in Africa, Mexico, Central America, South America, Asia, the Near East, the Middle East and the Far East that is used by unscrupulous nations and mercenary forces to kill and maim Mankind. - 7 months ago

Every one of those imbeciles that were on stage last night should be removed from Office...Michele, Rick and Ron, YESTERDAY for being a danger to this Nation AND the World!
The rest should NEVER be permitted to run even in a marathon race, let alone one for public office!
They ALL MUST be "space rocket cadets"....since they all are "out there"!
As a matter of fact, the main "theme" I came away with after watching and listening to them is the acronym NASA.
Need Another Seven Assholes...to replace every one that was at the debate last night!
And this it the BEST of the BEST that the Republican Party can "scrape together" for their choice for a "viable candidate" to run for the presidency in 2012?
As someone said, "With the World's population passing the seven billionth mark today, and the Republican Party can't find ONE out of all of them that's any smarter than these people?".
I say that the Republican Party HAS chosen their BEST.
It's just that their BEST can only compete with the worst of the worst of worst!
No competition...to figure out who would be the worst politician in all the world, these yokels would have to compete against the likes of a Gaddafi, Idi Amin, Hitler, Mussollini, Mao, Stalin or Genghis Khan....and the ONLY one who might STILL be alive from that group is Gaddafi!
Oh wait, I forgot one....His Highness, George Walker Bush!

When Michele Bachmann spoke of how Iran was disrespectful towards America concerning an UNFOUNDED situation about some guy WANTING to do something that NEVER came about, that Iran was behind a plot to kill a Saudi ambassador...I harken back to the 1950s when we, the U.S., LITERALLY overthrew the government of Iran and placed our puppet dictator in power...OVER OIL!!!
What are they going to do when an American is waterboarded by an enemy? Cry foul?

I JUST got in...I had some crapola to do and it's now 1:30 in the morning, so I DVR'd the debate to watch NOW.
I nearly lost it at the VERY beginning! The HEAVY commercialism to start things off. Cowboys....cowboys? Being a son of a 100% Native American that is getting me off on the wrong foot. (Where's my bow and arrows?) The singing of the National Anthem is sooo tacky! And the way each "contender" introduces themselves to the adoring crowd is comedic at best. it sounds like each one is trying to out-do the previous candidate saying, "I'm the REAL asshole up here on stage! Vote for me and I'll set you free! I'll fill your pockets full of rainbow gold!"
It has started off with a lot of hoopla...but it's already fallen into the same ol' same ol', tired, worn out campaign slogans they spew daily. Apples and oranges. Those poor fruits must be so bruised the way they get used and abused.
Herman Cain and his "9-9-9"...I say Nein, nein, nein!!! Once upon a time human beings would say that it's sacreligious...against God and all that's Holy to tax food! What happened there?
The Beatles song, Taxman, is playing over and over in my mind! I'm waiting for ol' Herman to say he's going to tax my feet for walking!
Them and their fear of that mean ol' Boogie Man called ObamaCare. Does anyone understand that it's not to kick in UNTIL 2014? Are they worrying about something that hasn't even started to yet? Yuppers, that's Republicans for you, fear of the unknown or perceived monsters under their beds!
Joeredford, Hardytoo and everyone else...I see why you all can't take any more after twenty minutes and HAD to turn off your t.v.s, now! I'm thankful I haven't eaten in hours or the food would be coming up in a "spraylike" fashion right now! They're all ganging up on poor Mitt about RomneyCare but Mitt got in a good gut punch on Newty! LOL! "I was for it, now I'm against everything I ever said", syndrome! It's actaully contagious, isn't it? And they ALL suffer from it!
Oh....shit! I HAVE to turn my t.v. off....it's making my head spin from all the stupidity spewing out of each and everyone's "blow hole"! Besides, I haven't had a good shit in hours and I can feel feces forcing it's way out. "Come out! Come out! Ye ol' ill-mannered turd!". Romney has NEVER had an illegal immigrant who worked for him? Every damn one of them has used immigrants one way or another! Ron Paul and Rick Perry being from Texas and they NEVER hired one? LIARS! Newt? OMG!
Where's Michele Bachmann? She's being mighty quiet this evening and that's soooo un-Michele of her!
I would wager a dollar to doughnuts that there was not one Democrat in the audience at this debate! It is pure, unadulterated, 1000% filled with Republicans in the audience, through and through.
Now, where's my toilet paper? I gotta crap....what they all are doing on stage, they should have a roll of toilet paper on their podiums so they can wipe their mouths after speaking!
Oh, Hell! I better have a bucket when I go to bow down to the "White Goddess", because there's a chance that I'll be evacuating from TWO orifices simultaneously!
OH HELL!!!!

It's worked so far!
There once was a Negus in Vegas

How to deflate the tax issues degas
He loudly explained his plan 9-9-9
As Perry cried out "Nein, nein, nein!"

Bailey does have a very good point about the need for dualistic extremes and shortcuts, especially considering the topic.
"Americans will hear the standard regressive litany: government is bad, Medicare and Medicaid should be cut, “Obamacare” is killing the economy, undocumented immigrants are taking our jobs, the military should get more money, taxes should be lowered on corporations and the rich, and regulations should be gutted."
Why settle for all the LESSER evils in the GOP that are like a slow "death by a thousand cuts" and take decades to do all the damage they have?
Vote for the GREATEST evil in Cthulhu to finally finish what they started much quicker! At the very least it would be substantive choice than the weaker versions that scraping the barrell at this point.

Especially since the Koch Brothers have their hands DEEP into the Republican/Tea Party agendas, using subterfuge to hide behind who knows how many of these "candidates", it's the worst kind of dishonesty the Party has ever used to win an election! OOPS! I meant BUY an election!
Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina couldn't buy their "seats" they wanted, but Rick Scott sure did!
Think about all the millionaires in the Rethuglican Party that are running! And Herman Kain, er Cain, is the leader of the pack in the amount of money that he's been bought and paid for in Koch Klown Kash!
If only people knew how insidious the Koch Brothers' money is invested in the run-up to the presidential election they would not believe it!

If anyone wishes to comprehend how we, as a country, got where we are today, please take the time to watch this video and be prepared to be edumacted!
So, put your "thunkin' caps" on and get ready for some factual reasoning why things went to Hell in a double-handled handbasket!
If you are not impressed with the information explaining the way we are where we find ourselves today, I suggest you move to another planet.
But I have faith in those that have demonstrated the curiosity to be here in the first place will have the wherewithall to understand what is being shown and discussed by Mrs. Elizabeth Warren.

Here is a video that is a fine an example of how those that don't want her speaking the truth will say about her!
People like Ron Paul try their best to belittle her wealth of knowledge! And your word "demonize" is so apropos!
And Ron Paul questioning HER knowledge of what's what is so laughable since the turd she expelled out her rear orifice this morning has more credentials with regards knowing financial accounting and economics than Ron Paul has in his ENTIRE body!
Imagine, him thinking he knows more than her on the subject of high finance! She's taught at Harvard, and every university from California to Boston!

I watch them to keep track of the bastards, and equally, for the entertainment value. Where else can you see men and women elbowing their opponents out of the way to produce the most batshit-crazy positions, while trying not to say anything that would appeal to normal human values lest they be pounced upon by the jackal audience and their fuming opponents for being conciliatory and caring? They all claim to believe in "Jesus Christ" superstar, but hate the poor, want sick people to die and cheer executions whether full proven or if there be doubts! But then why should I think they would actually believe in the Christ when there every act is a slap in his face. "As you do to the lest of these, so you do unto me" has never rung a bell in their hollow, greedy heads!

"I watch them to keep track of the bastards..."
It's advisable to keep our "enemies" very close! Which is why I think Mr. Obama chose the Wall Street "insiders" like Timothy Geithner and Ben Bernanke! Who else can explain what the "fat cats" of Wall Street did to get us into the hole we are in financially now! If you want to learn to be a car thief or safecracker, who would you go to to learn their "trades"? Not anyone who hasn't been "taught" by the "experts" of Wall Street, right?
But back to the clowns of conservatism. I have wondered why the Republican Party has this bunch running for their candidate and came to the conclusion that there are the BEST of the Best.
The Crème de la Crème of their Party! And if that's the case, I'd HATE to see the bottom of their barrel. If cream rises to the top and they are that cream, can you imagine what makes up their buttermilk? And, FYI, there is NO butter NOR milk in buttermilk!
It's the refuse of what's left! Many folks labor under the misconception that buttermilk is basically a buttery, high-fat milk. This couldn't be farther from the truth. You might be surprised to learn there is no butter, per se, in buttermilk, and it is lower in fat than sweet milk. Old-fashioned homemade buttermilk is the slightly sour, RESIDUAL LIQUID which remains after butter is churned, ie. milk from the butter or buttermilk!
And that is what's left of the Republican Party after these eight were "separated" from the rest!
And what is MOST shocking of all to me is that one of these yokels could possibly be thought of as competition against Mr. Obama!
IMPOSSIBLE....but true...when you take into consideration of the intelligence quotient of the average conservative voter and who they choose to vote for!

I think Mr. Obama got all he could out of Larry Summers and then cut him loose!
Either that, or Larry Summers fought tooth and nail against divulging the "secrets" and decided to vamoose!
What made me sick to my stomach was how Allen Greenspan took all that money and got out of Dodge RIGHT before the shitbomb hit that financial fan!
Then Hankypoo Paulson came in, passed out all OUR money to the banks, both the U.S. AND foreign banks, took HIS big cut and got on his belly and crawled back in his snake pit! I don't want to remind myself of all the money he walked away with for a few month's worth of playing Santa Clause with the T.A.R.P. Plan, which I renamed the TRAP Plan....Trillion-dollar Ripoff Asset Program! And even though the amount was for 700 Billion Dollars, the government had to BORROW the money from China and Japan and by the time the "loan" is paid off it WILL COST a Trillion Dollars!
This video best explains a complicated situation that took place three years ago just last month!
I say the Democrats and We The People were hornswoggled! Hoodwinked!
Even though the "experts" say it would have destroyed the banking system, maybe it should have gone down and had been taken over by the government and all that money distributed to all of us!
And the Rethuglicans talk about how they are against "spreading wealth"...they sure did a fine job spreading it with the banks!
And the Rethuglicans talk about how they are against welfare...unless it's for the banks.
And the Rethuglicans talk about how they are against extending UI checks for those who have NOTHING when those checks they worked for and then stopped...they spent their pension funds, lost their homes and yet the Rethuglicans extend their hand out to corporations to give them whatever they ask for...but most of the time the greedy SOBs don't even have to ask since the Rethugs willingly give it all to the banksters knowing it's what they want!
SICKENING!

Everyone seems to be stumbling over one another wondering what to do about this economic morass this nation is stuck up to our collective eyeballs in and if someone COULD come up with good solutions, how would their ideas be carried out?
Here's one person that UNDERSTANDS the overall picture and is more than qualified to put things into motion to get things back on track!
All you who suggest a Bernie Sanders or Ron Paul for president, which, sadly, I disagree with both "offerings", since they have been around for far too long and have had some sort of hand in all that's occurred over the DECADES!
I PROPOSE this fine Lady who has more "sheepskins" hanging on her walls than ten normal economics professors!
I would abandon EVEN Mr. Obama and cast my support financially, time AND vote for Elizabeth Warren for President in 2012 in a heartbeat!
Especially if Alan Grayson were to be her "running mate" as Vice President!!!
