Courts Rule CIA / US Government Above the Law

Manhattan Federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein has declined to hold the CIA in contempt for destroying videos that it had been ordered by the courts to preserve.
The case revolves around 92 videos, depicting hundreds of hours of interrogations of detainees. The tapes allegedly contained evidence of torture, and the CIA was ordered by numerous courts to produce the videos in relation to lawsuits arising from torture allegations. The 9/11 Commission also demanded that the tapes be produced. Instead, the agency destroyed them.
Although the Obama Justice Department had already decided last year that no criminal charges would be filed for this blatant obstruction of justice, Judge Hellerstein’s recent ruling insures that the agency will not even face civil sanctions or so much as a contempt order for willfully breaking the law.
In his ruling, Judge Hellerstein, the very judge who had ordered the CIA to produce the tapes in September of 2004, notes that the agency had instead provided a description of what they say was on the tapes and “implemented new protocols” to insure that they don’t destroy evidence again, so there is no need to hold them accountable in any way.
Judge Hellerstein’s decision is not without precedent.

Pointless . Waste of energy and it will never happen . Who will impeach him ? Even if it DID happen , What will it change ? This corruption goes WAY beyond just one person . The high court , both parties .... all but a handful , are whores to the financial aristocracy .

Perhaps, and perhaps not. It's easy to assume the present system
can't be salvaged. It's very difficult to eliminate the corruption with
the kind of mindset of the sheeple who vote. But it has to be done
w/in the law. Violence will only destroy all that's been built up that's
still good. We have to get the losers to turn off their God damned
commercial TV stations, and up off their worthless asses to march
before the collapse comes, and things are so bad that no amount
of protests will make a difference. Pelosi blocked Kucinick & collegues
from bringing articles of impeachment against Bush so the corruption
could get worse under Nobama who's worse than Bush in many ways.
The elimination of the corruption has to start with the elimination &
punishment of the corrupt. Impeach Nobama & Pelosi !!! - 7 months ago

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by crown source govt., but I voted your
comment up (as I always do if I read it) because I'm generaly on the same
wavelength as you are. I meant the reason why it's become so corrupted
is due to the lack of enough viable political parties to challenge the obvious
Corporate domination of Government.. I feel if all the people in the the OWS
movement were as well informed as Current.com community members, then
they'd be calling on the decent people in or formerly of Government to start
them. I got a robotic Email from Nancy Pelosi today on behalf of the DNP. I
was so disgusted I unsubscribed from it, as I did with Kerry. The only one I
allow to send me Emails now is Senator Sanders, though I hope Denis Kucinick
sends me news alerts too on what he's proposing to do in Congress. These
are the honest G people I have faith in. Government is only ultimately a
reflection of the people's will. It's because people have become too passive
for too long that things have been allowed to get to be as bad as they are.
The OWS movement is a good sign the 99% wants to further the USA as a
Constitutional Democratic Republic, ditch the national security state of the
unlawful secret shadow government cabal of Banksters & Nazis fomenting
endless wars of Corporate Piracy abroad,& the Prison Industrial Complex here.

Thank you for the vote up . I am reminded of the parallels between now and the Founding of our country . They created a new form of government , and put checks and balances in it , to try and prevent corruption . Well , 200+ years later , it is 99% corrupt and no one is being held accountable . It seems to me , that it is time to AGAIN think outside the box . WHAT can balance the check of multinational greed ? Also we can use the new media to connect large numbers of people almost instantly , like we do here at current . In lateral power structures , there has been no examples of corruption yet . I am not saying it is impossible , just difficult . So that is a structure i am investigating at the moment . I suppose it might be rather like the council of grandmothers , that had the power of veto , if something was not life affirming .... except , leadership positions would be rotated and ideas would be voted up or down , like here . It would be cool if they could revoke corporate charters and confiscate a criminal corporations possessions , to be used for generally agreed on ideas , like making sure ALL babies born had access to clean drinking water ......

Sounds like a good plan. I'd support those ideas too. Thanks
for your input. It's much appreciated. Here's a quote from Hubert
Humphrey, a Democrat in LBJ's time that I hope will inspire you,
as the spirit of his thought inspires the OWS movement: " Oh, my
friend, it's never what they take away from you that's as important
as what you do with all, you never dreamed you still possessed,
that you still have left " As Jack Horkeimer, aka the Star Hustler
(an astronomer) says as Debusy's Gymnopedia plays in the back
ground: " Keep looking up ", Artemis 6. Thanks for the dialog. If
anything, you've shown that Current.com is a social community
that works. We community members are the hope of America's
future because we're participants in an interactive media that
exposes the truthful news the TV infotainment media covers up,
spreads disinformation about, and promotes mass mind control.
I blogged an article here this week entitled: How TV makes people
believe in things that aren't true. I had to skip back in the web pages
a ways to get that article, but then I always find the things I look for. - 7 months ago

Judge Hellerstein’s decision is not without precedent.
In 2010, Obama’s Office of Legal Council wrote a memo arguing the legality of Obama’s secret list of assassination targets, a list that apparently includes American citizens who have not been convicted or even charged of a crime. The memo was used as the legal justification for the extrajudicial assassination of Anwar al-Awlaki, a US citizen who the President ordered murdered early last year.
Now, the Obama White House is arguing that they don’t even have to show the justification for ordering the unconstitutional assassination of one of its own citizens.
Still, concerned citizens are attempting to challenge the Obama regime’s power grabs in court.
Earlier this year, Senator Wyden revealed that the federal government has a secret interpretation of the PATRIOT Act that allows the government much more power than is suggested by the wording of the act itself.
When Charlie Savage of the New York Times filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the interpretation, he was denied on the basis that the interpretation is classified.
Last week, Savage and the Times sued the federal government for refusing to release the documents. The case is currently before Judge William Pauley of the US District Court.
