UPenn: U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor cancels Wharton speech
U.S. Rep. Eric Cantor, the Republican majority leader in the U.S. House, canceled his scheduled speech at the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business because it was going to be open to the first 300 people who showed up. Given that hundreds of Occupy Philadelphia protesters were planning to march from City Hall to the campus to protest the speech, that could have been lively audience.
"The Office of the Majority Leader was informed last night by Capitol Police that the University of Pennsylvania was unable to ensure that the attendance policy previously agreed to could be met," Cantor spokeswoman Laena Fallon said in an email. "Wharton is a educational leader in innovation and entrepreneurship, and the Majority Leader appreciated the invitation to speak with the students, faculty, alumni, and other members of the UPenn community."
Cantor had expected that his speech, on income disparity in the country, would be open to the media, Wharton students and faculty and guests of the university.
We can't help but feel a strong current of irony running through all this, since Cantor's Congressional office put out a curious YouTube video this week that was all about him promoting success and leadership. What was it Woody Allen said about success? Oh right: "Eighty percent of success is just showing up."

It appears that this image of Congressman Cantor as "Mister No" is one I created for a blog post I made on 22 June 2007. You are welcome to post it but only with attribution.

This Eric Cantor fella seems pretty strange to me. Wasn't he like a lawyer / debt collector or something? As one of the cons' leaders, you're seeing the best they have to offer in Eric Cantor. The con party isn't scraping the bottom of the barrel, or anything, with this guy. ;)

I think (almost) all politicians are in the business of securing their wealth and dominance above anything else... That's why most of them are lawyers.
They get in office and legislate for their bank accounts, they legislate so corporations stay in control keeping the people just far enough out of actual slavery to pretend we have a "free-society"... (and in some cases fail miserably, trust me if you were born in the wrong area of Appalachia, you're a slave, white one too.)
So this is totally unsurprising, nothing they do (right or left) is much surprising... As long as we allow them, and keep up with our political tribalism they will continue to dominate the vast majority of the population. (Seems "divide & conquer" has served them well)
This is why the #Occupy movement has on the top of their list "campaign finance reform".... Legitimate reform. You turn on even Jon Stewart, or Colbert and they're explaining (or have over the course of many months) just exactly how corporations pull political strings through campaign contributions that are never seen. How in the most important political races our nation faces, they do things that most of us would think is illegal and get away with it....
So the wizard draws the curtain suggesting you pay no attention to him.... What else would he do?

Sadly, that's still true today. Many places in America use electronic voting machines, which have been proven to be hackable.
Have they told us the problem has been fixed? Have they told us anyone has been held accountable for designing machines which are hackable?
We need to know 'BEFORE' the next election, that the electronic voting machines are accurate, when they count our votes!
Our Justice Department needs to investigate allegations, of corrupt voting machines in America 'today'. After the next election may be too late!

This speaks volumes about Mr Cantor's attitude toward democracy; a publicly elected official afraid, or for whatever reason unwilling, to face the public.
Instead, he prefers arrogantly pretending, so long as he can be isolated from us, to tell us what we want and what we think, while appearing only only the TV machine, or by speaking only to pre-screened audiences.
Aren't those the actions of a coward?

I think it will as long as OWS and other "regular" working, working poor and unemployed keep the message going. I DO WISH and I have asked a zillion times that mainstream media feature at least two "man/woman-on-the-street" people each night. Just give them each two minutes to voice their opinions on a medium that most people watch.. At least we have another year to get people thinking for a change. Maybe the voters will start researching and vetting these clowns before 2012. There should be a people's vetting committee on every candidate with air time donated by ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, etc. Of course Faux Noise will start its own version but that might be interesting (if not laughable) to watch as well.
