    • "It would also be quite odd for the Court, which found in Citizens United that the Framers intended the First Amendment to apply to corporate persons, to reject the concept when it comes to corporate liability for crimes against humanity under a Founding-era statute."

If it does, it would allow for new law suits to counter the Citizens United decision.

    • I wish those who brought the suit luck. But I wouldn't hold my breath with this SCOTUS. They've made it quite clear that they support corporations, not people.

    • By 1900 corporate malfeasance was penalized by dissolution of the corporation for abuse of the public trust.

How about if we return to this?

    • Well since they ruled corporations are people they must know that people are held liable everyday for their actions.

    • Just watch how the corporately owned judges are going to rule in their favor...those traitors on the SCOTUS bench who don't give a FF about the 99%.

    • It would be great if the judges weren't all corrupt... It will still be hilarious to watch the court try to find a legal way to make everything come out kosher (for their crooked bedfellows)....

I just hope, when the court proves it has no integrity, and no will to uphold just laws, that the #occupy movement will see it as further initiative.... That the people will see how imperative it is to dethrone (preferably without open violent rebellion, though sometimes...) the power elites....

    • Do not trust this Court to rule in favor of humanity!
Integrity, honesty and conscience of this Supreme court has been hijacked by corporate power .
If there is any way around doing what is right... they'll do it.
There is NO part of our supposed free society that hasn't been corrupted by corporate greed...NONE!
While there may be a few individuals who still hold some integrity ..the system as a whole is rancid with rot!

    • If the citizens united ruling makes a corporation a 'person' then they damned well should be held liable for crimes committed!

I think that was a big part of the reason corporations in the early years of this country were only allowed to 'be' corporations for something like 10 years -- then they had to break it up and disband. I'm not sure that I think we need to do exactly that, but some of the old laws need to be reinstituted so that companies can't become monopolies. I.E: Companies (like Romney's) that buy up companies that are in trouble and fire all the workers need to be watched much more carefully than they have been in the last 30/40 years, and be legally punished for any wrongdoing.

Funny how at the start of WW11 what helped keep this country going was turning the factories into munitions makers -- my mother worked in one while my father went to war :-). We kind of need to do that again, only start building things that will bring this country into the 21st century -- I think that's what Obama had in mind when he designated money in the last jobs bill for 'green' technologies; the problem was that all the ceo's of those companies that do make products for the MIC didn't want to spend the money it would take to come into the 21st century -- it would mean they couldn't take home nearly as much for themselves (and that's why we need to tax the hell out of these gluttons -- it needs to be painful enough to goad them into doing what is right). Until these things happen they really will be a millstone around our necks.

    • This is going to be interesting. You can not have it both ways Corporations either have the same rights and responsibility or not.

    • I don't see how Scalia can hide from this one. If the suit would be upheld against an individual, all they can do is establish that the rights of a corporation actually exceed those of individuals.

    • Don't hold your breath, the majority of the court is bought, beholding to those that appointed them. Add the Thomas situation and probably more. Well, you get what you paid for and corporations have paid plenty. Corporations claim the rights of an individual but avoid the legal resposibility. A win win for them, a loss for everyone else and a sad situation for justice.

    • Interesting. This could establish a wide-reaching precedent. Or, it could be swept under the rug. It's one that certainly bears watching. Thanks for posting this, +^d

    • If the Supremes hear this case it will be hilarious to the max. I mean I will be totally goofing out. Corporations had better be nervous as to which board members will be spending time in club fed. Unless the supremes decide they had better throw out citizens united, after all, legally they cannot have it both ways.

    • I am happy to see this happening. With the current line-up of corporate sponsored judges, however, we can probably guess pretty well how they will decide. Still, it's nice to see this happen.

Maybe one day soon, especially if (at least) Mr Thomas is removed, we can hope for actual justice in the Supreme Court's decisions.

You post some fine info, batman. Noticed and appreciated.
