Chemical Bomb Tossed Into Occupy Maine Protest Camp

Image
WakeUpPeople
The Portland Press Herald reports that last night a chemical bomb was tossed into the Occupy Maine protest encampment. The bomb was thrown directly into the camp’s kitchen, within proximity of the three dozen camps set up there. Police say the homemade bomb “consisted of chemicals poured into a plastic Gatorade container could have caused serious injury” and are still looking for suspects.

    • Some how this makes sense to the right. It was never done to their protests, the left allowed them to have their say. Now when the protests are actually based on a REAL grass roots movement, they feel it necessary to start intimidation tactics. Thus form of intimidation is how the Nazis started before the Brown Shirts took over.

    • Am I correct to assume it didn't go off? Article said it was a Gatorade container (which would be kind of hard to tell - blown to smithereens) and "could have". If police have the thing, then they have something to start with. If the wacco couldn't even get his bomb to off he probably left prints too. It's going to be interesting to see if anyone is found.

    • Last time we ended a horrible era, people were hosed and hung; this time it's a relentless media and now this chemical weapon. Same shit, different era.

You are probably right about the Canadian event...and Quebec politics is pretty crazy on a good day. I think you are absolutely right about where the real threat will originate.

With the cops (city and state) in Albany, NY refusing to arrest demonstrators there could well be a spike in the fear factor at 1% headquarters; and they have the dollars to hire some pretty sophisticated provocateurs, think Blackwater types...or just use your imagination.

That scenario is all the more real when you look how militarized urban police departments have become in the last decade especially in the area of urban warfare and sophisticated crowd control etc. What lies beyond a Blade Runneresque society of some sort? Don't answer, that was strictly rhetorical..

    • Probably just a couple of very closeted, mountain dew drinking, rednecks from East Bumfuck Maine out to bash a few hippys. All the time stealing glances at each others asses! They had to get real drunk later so they wouldn't have to talk about it tomorrow.
Ahhhhh...life in the great north woods!

    • Unless this person was a major league pitcher, they had to be within close proximity. Someone should have seen them and if not, then it's time for a 24/7 watch so that it can't happen again. I wondered when shit like this would begin to happen.

    • I'm an evil corporate executive and I must crush this OWS protest, hmmmm who should I target? Well... I should technically target the one in New York but let me put a blindfold and point my finger on one place. Oh, it appears I pointed it at Maine...huh, so they happen to have a OWS protest.

Seriously people, the last thing a big corporate executive would target would be a Maine protest. Again, lone wolf makes the most sense. I mean really? Who would pay a guy to go to Maine to cause chaos??

    • This doesn't surprise me that something like this would happen. Anything to stop the 99% from rising up. This Revolution will be a bloody battle, sadly, but the 99% will not back down but only strengthen.

    • Just wondering if that person was influenced by someone in the media, what group he is part of and if he was paid for it. *(I do have my suspicions). ;-|

    • Anyone want to take bets on how long it takes for the right to say.. obviously, this was a liberal commie socialist just trying to make "us" look bad. No way would we(the caring, non violent, constitution loving right) do anything like this.

    • Don't these retards realize that everything like this that they do is just going to make this movement stronger? Of course the other possibility is that the idiot who threw this 'molotov cocktail' was hoping to incite some violence in the hope it would shut down ALL the protests. Stay strong 99ers -- we WILL persevere!

Desperation tactics from a ruling class that is being seriously challenged by people they regard as less than nothing and are glad to see die so they are off the sidewalks! Which side will we be counted on?

Nick, I take the help I can get. Better a crazy, but verbal loon, than a chem bomb throwing thug hired by the corps to scare the people of OWS! Above ALL, non-violence must be the rule for all or the press will try to crucify the group even more than they already do.

I agree, non-violence is important but I'm surprised the immediate assumption is that "Oh, big corporate guy hires a thug to throw a crude chemical bomb on Maine OWS". I mean where is the logic of that? If I were a really rich guy who theoretically tried this, it would have made sense to target the one in New York. So the only logical conclusion was a lone wolf who probably listened to Glenn Beck too much.

Sure, and let's wonder why the cops were ordered to attack peaceful protesters too. Probably an accident and it certainly can't be that beating people was considered a deterrent, just good 'justice'? ;-) I'm open to proof that I am wrong, but until then, I think this act very much resembles the intimidation tactics the bosses have used on workers since the time workers began to strike for their rights!

I'm right there with you on this -- remember how many were killed for trying to unionize; I think it's quite possible we will see this again b4 this movement wins.

I like to flatter myself that even if I can't be there in NY w/OWS, I am, in spirit, when I post my solidarity! ;-) I'm in SF tomorrow and there are at least three things I have to do: 1. protest XL pipeline and process; 2. March for medical marijuana; 3. demo w/Occupy SF (OK, not as dangerous as OWS in NY, but the Mayor is threatening arrests here too!;-)

Ok, what does that have to do with the topic? We're going off a tangent here. The cops attacked because as they said, protesters were moving into areas they were not supposed to be moving to. I still think that would be a load of BS though. Still, going back, what logic would there be in getting a guy with a crude handmade chemical weapon to attack a OWS in Maine of all places? Takes a bit of common sense to assume that this was the result of simply a lone wolf more than some big executive bothering themselves trying to attack a small group in Maine of all places....unless you're reading a Stephen King Novel.

Let me know when you have "facts" to back your "guesses" about what happened. As for me, I have filed it until further facts are available. I like to flap my gums, but not just on wild speculation. This act is sufficiently similar to others that have been done to protesting groups for me to presume this is similarly motivated. When we have "the facts" we can discuss their interpretation, until then, nice talking to you and good bye (on this topic)! Peas.

I don't think the supporters of the 1%er's or even many of the 1%er’s themselves would really stop to think about the repercussions and results of an action like that, all they are thinking is ATTACK!

Ah yes, that damned xl pipeline -- thank the Goddess our worthless Governor has come out against it, and I was protesting that b4 OWS started. I live in Nebraska and REALLY don't want to see this pipeline fukk up the aquifer, but I'm rather afraid that Obama will wait until everything quiets down and then sign off on it, saying it was for the jobs. I honestly think if he does that there is no way he will be re-elected even if he is better than any of the reptards running.
