More School Boards Seem important to Fat Cats: Bloomberg Gives Big to a Baton Rouge-based PAC for School Board Race

"A fund called The Michael R. Bloomberg Revocable Trust, of which the principal trustee is New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, donated $100,000 to a Baton Rouge-based political action committee just days before a pivotal Louisiana election that decided the make-up of the state’s main K-12 board of education.

The PAC in question, Alliance for Better Classrooms, spent at least $300,000 in contributions on behalf of generally pro-charter, anti-teacher-tenure and anti-union candidates running for positions on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE).

The elections were this past Saturday, and though a couple of races are still inconclusive, state campaign finance reports show the business lobby, buttressed by Bloomberg dollars, far outspent groups aligned with teacher union positions.

...]

Is anybody surprised about the pro charter (read as CORPORATE) schools, anti-teachers union?

Folks, too many of us have made fun of home schooling. But we might want to give some serious consideration to the fact of corporate takeovers of public schools and what sort of mind warping wraps that means for young minds.

When Hoarder Class Fat Cats start throwing money at local school board races, I figure the brain washing/indoctrination the RW accused Obama of doing when he asked to speak to the kids of the nation at the beginning of last school year was more projection. The Right is doing it already, and looks to be planning a lot more.

When they attacked professors who taught critical thinking, real history, and challenged whether ruling classes were natural and should be accepted as natural law, well, that was one thing. When they move their attacks to teachers of very young children and start funneling huge amounts of cash into governance of K-12, you gotta know there is real danger.

Way back in the early 70s, some of us noticed how RW leaning people and a lot of fundy xians started taking over local school boards. Probably most of us figured it was a local thing. It was not. Schools started really going down the tubes and the most political savvy of those board members moved on to higher office. The nation started some serious sliding.

Now, a second wave of candidates on the right, this time sponsored by some very big cats. It's more than just education swirling the drain now. It's more funneling of precious resources, both money AND young people's minds to the corporate fold.

While we are occupying wall street (and I KNOW how essential that is) Wall Street is Occupying the classrooms. The young people we see protesting corporate takeover of democracy may well be the last generation to do so. The Hoarder Class are now poised to eat the brains of our very young Americans.
