Ohio Gov. John Kasich signed an executive order for more regulations on exotic pet auctions and severe penalties for unlicensed auctions.
This all comes on the heels of the slaughter of over 50 wild animals last week on a Zanesville, Ohio farm. Terry Thompson, owner of the roughly 73-acre farm was the owner of over 18 rare Bengal Tigers, lions, grizzly bears and monkeys. Thompson shot and killed himself but before doing so, set the animals free, in what neighbors and officials say was his final act of spite. Because no safety plan was put into effect, even though law officials stated they had numerous complaints about the animals, law enforcement gunned down the animals in a confused panic.
