Bad cops are so destructive. How awful it must be to be an honorable police officer today in America. Not a single flash grenade was ever thrown into a tea party protest.

As I follow the occupy movement, and this particular incident, I can't help but see the similarities with the Tiananmen Square protest in 1989. The movement began primarily as a call for economic reform as was largely non-violent. Who can forget the image of the man standing down the tank. What is striking to me is that all Western Governments, led by the U.S., condemned China's brutal crackdown on the protesters. Oh, the irony just makes me sick.

I hope along with the "irony" of the US decrying repression in China while the Oakland Mayor orders gas grenades on peaceful protesters here in the US, we can realize that while we did not knowingly cooperate in reaching this point, enough of US did "stay home" from debates and voting in numbers that allowed "ideology" to be considered more important that the good of the nation. We must swear to learn our lesson and always be involved in our government so it cannot be over taken by special interests in the future.

As a US Marine that served in Vietnam coming home in 1969 being teargassed in Berkeley and then seeing the teargassing again over 40 years later I am again appalled to say the least. As a US Marine that served in Vietnam Coming home in 1969 and watching in horror the Kent State massacre in 1970 and today watching the Oakland tragedy I am again appalled to say the least. One thing I really need to understand now is why is everyone supporting this Marine today when 40 years ago you spit in our faces.

Veterans should always be honored, regardless of the circumstances that got us into war. Someone who is sent into a war zone under orders is only doing their duty. What happened to Vietnam veterans was appalling and I hope that sad chapter is never repeated. We should all be standing together, at this point, because we all have something in common, although the general population is not paying near as high a price as our service members. If we are supposedly fighting for freedom all over the world, let's make sure we maintain it here, or it will all be for nothing. At some point we have to learn from our mistakes, and move forward. http://sibob.org/wordpress/

incredulous - Thank you! Even if you did not serve in a war zone you at least have the decency to know right from wrong. Every day I live with this and their are many veterans of the Vietnam war that have been afflicted in this way. Many ended up taking their own life's as the only way to cope with this injustice. Thank you again, You are a true patriot.

I don't agree with some of what OWS is protesting against or campaigning for BUT they have an absolute right to protest as long as it is peaceful and non destructive. It appears that Lance Corporal Olsen was doing just that when he was injured.
I cannot support firing anything at people who are merely protesting. The officer in this case should be prosecuted with the same vigor as any other criminal because that is exactly what he is. The increasing militancy of civilian police is not a direction they should be going. It has gotten worse in the past 25 years to the detriment of civilians. I will not say here the actions I would support or methods to achieve them. - 7 months ago

I am so disgusted with politicians and law enforcement in this country. I don't even want to vote in the upcoming elections. I don't believe anything they say anymore, and Obama has stabbed his supporters in the back so many times I have lost count of the disappointments.

Shit where do I begin......
OK. I have been harrassed on the side of the road as a truck driver more times than I care to remember. Once in ARK I was put up against my truck as a "suspected" drug runner. A search of my truck showed I wasnt. I had dogs put into my car in NV and forced to stand outside my car for an hour and a half in the middle of the afternoon in July while the cops searched my car TWICE with a dog and again they found nothing. I was pulled out of the Virgin River casino in mesquite NV cuffed and stuffed into a cop car and accused of robbing a 7-11 type store. Lucky, I guess, for me at the time of the robbery I was being harrassed at the ST.George scale house in Utah and that was my alibi that got me out of the robbery charge in NV. I could go on and on. Been pulled out of a car twice at gunpoint by the cops. Once in CHGO once in the tate of WI. I could go on and on.
I need to also note I have NEVER been convicted of any crime at any time.
I hate the police with every fibre of my being, when I hear one died in the so called line of duty, which today seems to be harrass and fuck over the citizens, my only thought is where did they bury the shitbag........I need to take a piss.
and no there really arent any "good ones" because the "good ones" protect the bad ones and that makes them worse.

This video says it all.
Scott was standing still and was shot point blank. It then shows the policeman that threw a flash grenade in the group that was trying to help him. I am furious.
Here is a link to make donations to help Scott. According to reports, he needs brain surgery.

All these police communities for years have had all this unused riot gear any time they get a chance to inform peaceful protesters to disband they decide to act like they're smashing business windows and terrorizing the public. This country seriously needs to ask itself what it's trying to accomplish by fighting freedom of speech THIS MUCH. Much less fighting freedom of speech at all... This isn't a fucking war you moron fucking pigs, it's a protest of injustices. You're only bringing attention to the protester's causes by doing shit like this.
You'd think after the 1960's and 70's they'd know what happens when they fight the protesters, THE PROTESTERS WIN IN THE END AND YOU LOOK LIKE THE TOTAL DICKWADS THAT YOU ARE TO FUTURE GENERATIONS.

I would like to see a horde of off-duty Marines overtake the OPD. I firmly believe Marines would have more of an interest in serving the public than would those power hungry dicknecks. I am all for supporting the men and women of law enforcement, but when you are no longer serving your sworn purpose, it is time for a revolution.

I would love to know if there were any former Marines that were wearing police storm trooper uniforms and what they feel about doing this to a fellow Marine.
If I was an ex Marine and a cop and this happened to one of my own I wouldn't be a cop anymore.
Hope he does OK and if he does have an operation he comes out of it just fine. - 7 months ago

Though I don't want more violence to occur, I think I should point out that the police, and/or people who authorized the police to use such force, should be wary. Of all the kinds of people who can react violently to overzealous enforcement, highly trained former military folk are probably the last people you would want to deal with.
