Considering the hold big bucks have on a corrupt Congress and the courts,I doubt this will go very far. What we need is the impeachment of all Public officals,Judges, and, the jailing of their collaborators who have and continue to rape our constitution for their own financial gain.

Finally!!! This is a start! The thugs will likely vote it down, but they will be on record for it. Finally!!! If the Occupy movement ever puts out a list of demands, getting rid of the Citizens United ruling needs to be at the top!
WooHoo, hi five!

Well we have an Occupy Movement so they better start mobilizing in order to pressure both Congressmen and women to get this thing passed without watering it down.

On the surface it looks to me like they are just trying to head off what really needs to be done by introducing something first that is much softer (states can still regulate donations and you bet some if not many still will) and that really doesn't address ALL money and influence. Either that or they are running again and want votes from the crowds. Sorry to be so cynical, but if they really cared they would have fought harder to not see us here in the first place. In other words, I won't believe anything until I see them really fighting for US.

I am with you Jan, if they were serious, it would have been done before now. Let's see this actually happen? So far, it is pandering? I hate to be so cynical. I hope I am proven wrong, I really do.....

Some pretty weak sauce in the sense that it doesn't address corporate personhood whatsoever....and I doubt it will go anywhere in this sold out Congress. To me, I'd prefer if the people called for state conventions (the other way to amend the Constitution) to put some stronger language into it.

As I have stated earlier, as long as unions, PACS, wealthy individual are included and not just corporations.

Campaign reform.
Everyone gets X dollars.
Everyone gets X time on cspan
Everyone gets X number of Tweets/FB/ etc web media.
Everyone gets X number of campain speeches/town halls.
Everyone gets X number of volunteers.
Campaign workers must be paid X amount.Gag order on candidates except as pertaining to the above. ^1
All candidates will submit to PET scans, looking for deception, conducted by the opposing candidate's staff.
8 year maximum for holding ANY COMBINATION OF PUBLIC OFFICES.
Ex politicians cannot be involved in any organization that conducts business with the government
How to deal with the pundant media is going to be a toughie.
^1 Everyone can talk about what THEY plan on doing if elected, but may not mention other candidates at all. Any reference to their opponents results in immediate exclusion from the ballot.

Same here. But its definitely a step in the right direction.
We need transparency in governance and we need for the congress and senate not to sell the seats of power in Washington DC like whores.

That depends on how much pressure is put on them from the voters and the states that ratified it.
"Our Congress is completely infected with the virus. So proposing an amendment through Congress seems hopeless. But luckily there is another way. We can do this purely at the state level. The states can call for a constitutional convention and they can ratify an amendment that comes out of one. And there is nothing our corrupt federal government can do about it."

It's more of the "damned if you do and damned if you don't". I'm not a "rep" for the pols, but it might help if we helped more. If we want clarity from our pols and accountability, what systems can we set up to report their votes on issues of importance to the nation (and no, not "in god we trust"! ;-) so we can begin to be a 'voting bloc" to propose changes need and oppose idiocy like voting on "mottos" rather than on jobs.

This is a great start to get Citizens United weakened or overturned! I think the Occupy Movement IS having an impact on what certain law makers are doing. Tom Udall is one of the better Senators. This is what my former Senator Russ Feingold is working on through his PAC. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Lisayou!

It's up to us to spread the word to get this pushed through because this is not what mainstream media wants. They will not be for this. They love the buckets of cash that pour through from the corporations.

It certainly seems like OWS is having an effect, with BofA caving in on raising fees and the introductions of this bill, hopefully they can help get it passed by showing the overwhelming support for it among the voters.

The news has been spreading since Cenk annouced it at OWS
"So what can we do to regain our ability to make our votes count and take back our democracy? We have to concentrate all of our resources into one single attack – making sure we take corporate money out of politics. The only way to do that is to pass a Constitutional amendment. We must pass an amendment saying that corporations are not people and they do not have the right to spend money to buy our politicians.
The objective of Wolf PAC will be to raise money and raise an army for the sole purpose of passing this amendment. We need a Constitutional revolution to get unlimited corporate money out of politics"
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/20/cenk-uygur-separate-money-and-politics_...
"We're going to go and occupy the state houses and ask them to call for a constitutional convention so that we can get the constitutional amendment," Uygur said. Uygur spelled out that constitutional amendment in his announcement and in a HuffPost blog post. The amendment reads:
Corporations are not people. They have none of the constitutional rights of human beings. Corporations are not allowed to give money to any politician, directly or indirectly. All elections must be publicly financed."
