Michele Bachmann: Sharia Law Would 'Usurp' The U.S. Constitution

"It's very troubling to see some United States justices bring in Sharia law," Bachmann said Wednesday in an interview on WHO Radio's "Mickelson in the Morning" program, according to ABC. "Sharia law ... certainly does not have a place in a United States courtroom, nor should it be followed by United States judges."
"The only thing that United States judges should be bound by is the United States Constitution or state constitutions and the state and national laws of the land," Bachmann continued, going on to claim that allowing its consideration in court "would usurp, and put Sharia law over the Constitution, and that would be wrong."
Earlier this year, Bachmann displayed her opposition to Sharia law by signing the conservative "Marriage Pledge," drafted by Iowa-based group the Family Leader. The pledge included vows to fight Sharia law and pornography, among other things.
Bachmann's comments come in the wake of a recent decision by a Florida appeals court to allow a conservative Republican judge to use the Islamic law in a case that the St. Petersburg Times reports will decide "whether arbitration by an Islamic scholar mediating a dispute between the mosque and ousted trustees followed the teachings of the Koran."
The use of religious law in this type of case is "not all that unusual," Markus Wagner, a professor of international law at the University of Miami School of Law, told the Times.

What she dosn't realise is that part of our system of criminal code comes from the basis of Sharia law. The code Of Hamarabi. She must realise that the U.S. Constitution was drawn from many sources of law and then raifiued by the states. This woman hasn't a clue about what history presents and what mistakes that have been made in the past that should be avoided. This is a melting pot country, that includes our laws.

Christian Laws of the Bible.
The killing of homosexuals is condoned and encouraged in the wonderful laws of Leviticus. Leviticus 20:13 clearly states "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." Well there you have it, Homosexuality is wrong, and they must pay the ultimate price... IN THE NAME OF GOD!!!
Who else shouldn't people do?
Don't let cattle graze with other kinds of Cattle (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't have a variety of crops on the same field. (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't wear clothes made of more than one fabric (Leviticus 19:19)
Don't cut your hair nor shave. (Leviticus 19:27)
Any person who curseth his mother or father, must be killed. (Leviticus 20:9) Have you ever done that?
If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die. (Leviticus 20:10). I wonder if Dr. Laura would like that one to be enforced?
If a man sleeps with his father's wife... both him and his father's wife is to be put to death. (Leviticus 20:11)
If a man sleeps with his wife and her mother they are all to be burnt to death. (Leviticus 20:14)
If a man has sex with a woman on her period, they are both to be "cut off from their people" (Leviticus 20:18)
Psychics, wizards, and so on are to be stoned to death. (Leviticus 20:27)
If a priest's daughter is a whore, she is to be burnt at the stake. (Leviticus 21:9)
People who have flat noses, or is blind or lame, cannot go to an altar of God (Leviticus 21:17-18)
Anyone who curses or blasphemes God, should be stoned to death by the community. (Leviticus 24:14-16)
When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, then you shall cut off her hand." -- Deuteronomy 25:11-12
"Do not go around as a gossiper among your people..." -- Leviticus 19:16
Being put to death by stoning for these offenses: Homosexuality, adultery, astrology, being a disrespectful child, being a drunken son, blasphemy, breaking the Sabbath, perjury, incest, bestiality and witchcraft.
Exodus 21:20 And if a man smite his servant, or his maid, with a rod, and he die under his hand; he shall be surely punished. (killing your slaves is bad, but not that bad)
Exodus
21:15 And he that smiteth his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. (you're better off killing a slave than one of your parents.)Deuteronomy 23:1
No one whose testicles are crushed or whose male organ is cut off shall enter the assembly of the Lord. (which explains why people are always asking about how my testicles are before I enter a church.)Deuteronomy 22:28-29
28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. (you break her, you buy her).Christian law is a little more strict and life-threatening. But not everybody follows these laws, because well, society frowns upon them. ...and for good reason.
But also, by not following the laws, they risk their likely-hood of ever entering heaven. -I know, life's a bitch right? - 7 months ago

So in essence the judge has to read up on some Sharia law to decide a dispute between several Muslim parties on an issue pertaining specifically to Sharia law. Am I missing something here?
This is an INTERNAL dispute between several Muslim parties over THEIR interpretation of Sharia law. To be honest it's a compliment to the US Justice system that these folks trust the unbiased nature of US law enough to ask a U.S. judge to render a decision. Don't worry Michelle, the judge won't get cooties if he touches the Koran.

The point of most of the comments is that the United States is in absolutely no danger, whatsoever, of adopting Sharia Law, and that Michelle Bachmann, as usual, is talking out of her ass.
Some of the comments also allude to the fact that Christian theocracy, as endorsed by Bachmann and her ilk, is a far greater immediate threat to the Constitution.

And I agree that any legal system that places women in an inferior status is a horrible thing (not to mention the use of stone-throwing or the cutting off of hands as a form of punishment).

Wasn't some woman in the Bible being stoned and it took the intervention of Jesus to save her?
In fact, the way I remember it Jesus said "let he without sin cast the first stone"

To which Jesus said "you know mom, sometimes you really piss me off."

In reading this article, it seems to me that what is going on is actually an internal matter within a mosque. Therefore, the mediation done by an Islamic scholar as the arbitrator of this dispute, is not in any way contrary to the constitution of the United States.
Can you imagine what she would have to say if "THE BIG BAD GOVERNMENT" were to arbitrate disputes within her church? Honestly we really have to reclaim the separation of church and state, that separation is as much for the protection of churches as the protection from the churches.

Mat 6:5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites [are]: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Mat 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Mat 6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen [do]: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Mat 6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

Ol` Crazy Eyes is still at it. She ain`t the only one either. Here in Tenn. An anti-Sharia law conference was denied the use of a local hotel so a church run by an ex-con,shyster fundie in Nashville (Cornerstone Church)invited them there,as long as there was no hate speech(RIIIIIIIIIGHT). The Mosque being built in Murfeesboro is being held up by the local haters/fundies by claiming they weren`t given enough public notice of the wish to build. Haters will find a way,any way at all!

Incredible stuff, EarnestT - saw a documentary recently about the troubles in Murfreesburo, the Somali-immigrants and the newspaper editor who consistently slanders them at every turn.
And the Mosque!!! What a tragedy - I don't think it will ever be built. This doc was so well balanced, it showed and told both sides' ideas and arguments. I'll hunt for it on CBC (I think it was on "Passionate Eye" - they have fantastically educational and informative materials).
They investigators and interviewers really went into the anti-Sharia opposition group in the community. And it showed how HARD the new immigrants were patiently working, just to keep house and home together, working at Tyson Industries. They invited all the Christian church members into their own homes, to share their "native foods" and just to talk. There was tremendous resistance on the town folks' part. It was quite sad.
This whole thing is getting to be an explosive issue, mainly because of intolerance and dis-information (and no education). - 7 months ago

I think it will get built, the judge has already declared that Islam is a religion(the greasy little lawyer Joe Brandon filed to say it wasn`t)and that they had the constitutional right to practice that religion as well as have a place to practice it. This "Sunshine Meeting" about public notification will fail I think because the local newspaper has filed a brief to state that it has enough circulation to allow for notification and should be considered as due public notice. Funniest thing was when they had the ground breaking and the protesters all showed up. ALL 3 OF THEM! Pointy headed, inbred, pure white country bumpkins who I guarantee have never read a Bible(the greasy preacher does it for them)and wouldn`t know a Muslim if they saw one. All they know is it isn`t a Christian church and it shouldn`t be built. Funnier still is the fact that if they manage to halt construction the same precedent that was used to stop the Mosque can be used to stop any church from being built! EVEN THEIRS! OOOOOH I can hear the screams from the holy joes now!

O'Bachmann has zero idea of what Sharia law is or what it involves, and doesn't give "we, the people," the good sense to stand up against any such proposed imposition.

The Tea Hadists, who Michele Bachmann is always trying to be their "political representative", have NO IDEA how they sound JUST LIKE who they say are a threat to America!
Six of one...half a dozen of the other in my estimation!

I think this is how Michele Bachmann envisions Muslims.

Now that was some fine puppeteering there!
I wonder. Do the Koch Brothers have the same "hook-ups" attached to the Republican candidates vieing to win the Republican presidential primary?
I swear I think I have seen strings hanging from above during each one of those televised debates!

I do agree that no religious law should ever influence laws in America. So let us begin by getting rid of all laws that were put in place because of christianity. The first laws we can do away with are laws that discriminate against the LGBT community.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa?
Are you saying that I should not perpetuate what most Americans, from a religious perspective, have been taught since birth? That those "teachings" should be ignored?
What would most Americans do on Sunday mornings if not for sitting in pews being served up some good ol' religion...but not on a plate....because that's reserved for the feeding of the minister/pastor/priest so he can eat after feeding the masses their "spiritual food"?
Would you deny them their "crutch" they use to be intolerant of other religions they view as blasphemous?
What would we have if we didn't inculcate those "scriptures" into the children?
I wonder.....
