I'm not sure, it's a bit difficult to tell and depends on what you mean by "working" The "Bank Transfer Day" part seemed to work out fairly well by all reports with people closing their accounts in major banks in droves

      http://current.com/community/93527699_bye-bye-banks-650-000-switched-to-credit-u...

If you meant the "Buy Nothing" part then "how we can tell" is by the sales figures that "dropped by 10%"

I haven't figured out what V meant by "VFORVENDETTA "Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Lets just say, expect something special, on that day!" since what that "something special" was hasn't been explained yet and no way to tell if it worked.

      http://www.newscorpse.com/ncWP/?p=5749

The only reports of "Operation Fox Hunt By Anonymous" say that it showed no signs of being successful "The target date for the cyber-attack was November 5. So far as I know Fox News continued to broadcast throughout the weekend and their web site remained accessible. However, the Fox Nation web site no longer has a place to login and there are no comments on any posting, even those that go back months.

Could Anonymous be responsible for this? Might Fox have just removed those features to prevent any mischief? Is it just a period of scheduled maintenance? Only Guy Fawkes knows for sure."

I have to buy lumber for making Occupy structures...2x3's , strapping , plywood gusset plates and plastic....makes a solid weather tight structure for surviving the winter elements....The 1st built is now a 12' x 20' x 9 ' tall library here in Portland's Lincoln Park. This one is going to be a new kitchen... I believe.
Should have planned better but some of us are still fortunate to have paying work.
I know...I'l go to the local lumber yard rather than a Lowes or Depot! :) That's a compromise I can live with.
      Long live the Occupation!!!

Whenever I run into a Koch Brothers supporter spewing their vile bile I tell them to, "Zip it! Your Koch is showing!"

And Herman Cain just came out with another of his famous quotes about how he's a "brother" to them, even though they had different mothers!

Isn't that like him claiming to be a brother to the KKK? Does Cain not comprehend that their father began the John Birch Society? So if you follow logic, Herman Cain must be a JBS member, too!

      Like Ron Paul..........

How can a black man be "friends" and even brag about being a brother to a group of people that would undo the Civil Rights laws in a heartbeat?

I find myself shocked and amazed all at the same time!

      Power To The People!

You won't read about this anywhere....

"lLSE, wife of Karl Koch, commandant of the concentration camps Buchenwald from 1937 to 1941, and Majdanek from 1941 to 1943, became drunk on the absolute power rendered by her husband.

Infamous for her torture of prisoners as well as her souvenirs–shrunken heads and tattooed skin taken from murdered inmates that were later turned into lampshades, her reputation for debauchery was well earned."

      http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/297977-the-...

      Ilse Koch, "Bitch of Buchenwald"!

"Notorious Nazis Ilse Koch, her husband Karl Otto Koch and Erich Koch are the ghosts of Koch Industries, who seized the U.S. conservative political agenda years ago and seem capable of seizing the government in total through the Tea Party. Ilse Koch was the Nazi’s specialist in making objects from human skin; was the only woman charged with war crimes; and along with her husband was in charge of one of the most horrific horror camps in Nazi Germany.

Koch Industries is the child of the violence of Buchenwald, widely regarded as one of wartime Germany’s most notorious “death camps”.

"...is she really related to the bros?"

      Yes.

Report: The Kochs, A Nazi Past, Oil; The Foundation of The Right

Notorious Nazis Ilse Koch, her husband Karl Otto Koch and Erich Koch are the ghosts of Koch Industries, who seized the U.S. conservative political agenda years ago and seem capable of seizing the government in total through the Tea Party.

Information connecting Ilse and Koch Industries is hard to find but is a string of fragments, pieces of information that connects the American and German Kochs and this connection gives us a clear image of the sentiment behind the Tea Party and conservative American politics since the 1950s. Where is the connection between the German Koch’s and Fred Koch? Besides evidence the American Koch was related to Ilse’s family, Erich Koch (a high level Nazi official in charge of Prussia) invites Fred Koch to sell his oil in Nazi Germany when he is banned from doing business in the US. After the fall of Nazi Germany, Erich Koch and Fred expand the oil empire to the Soviet Union. Erich Koch had been in charge of Prussia for Hitler so his ties to the Soviet Union ran deep. A few years later the Soviets took Fred Koch’s oil and prosecuted Erich for war crimes – Fred Koch returned to the US, became anti-communist, and was allowed to do business in the States again.

American Fred Koch, and through association the Kochs from Germany, establish the John Birch Society in the 1950s in NY, which becomes the policy center for American conservatives. The society was built on Fred Koch’s oil money in the 1950s and can be thought of as the center of neo-conservative politics as well as the Tea Party movement. The ideologies of each are not the same – but the Tea Party fits into the neo-conservative put for colonial corporate police state as a sort of consumer citizen of the neo-conservative strategy mad as hell at the government and the legacy of liberalism, postmodernism, multiculturalism, taxes….etc.

I have also not been shopping at big chains for the last 2 years. *I get a cookie yay!* And since I don't know about the 5th of Nov. maybe I'll learn about it tomorrow too so I can remember it next year.

@Jeffreyak - The B of A near me is open from 10-1 on Saturdays.

I think I have been in a Wal-Mart a total of two times, -went in with someone else-and have never purchased anything there, I have not had an account with a bank for over 30 years, and I avoid big-box stores like the plague. I believe another poster made a very good point, it's not if a person decides to buy something tomorrow it's where, I fully plan on going to the farmers market tomorrow, as I always believe that it's a good idea to support local, but in my case that's pretty much what I always do anyway, I believe the idea is simply not to buy anything from a corporate chain if at all possible, I applaud your awareness.

    • I had to go into my local credit Union few days ago, and the place was packed, people literally going out the door, I asked the woman in her office who was helping me what was going on, she said the vast majority of them were new accounts, and I said, don't tell me, from Bank of America? She said yes, they are getting people from Bank of America in droves.

This of course is very good news, this is working, the people en masse are finally beginning to realize, not only who the TRUE crooks and criminals are, but one of the most important things you can do to take away their power, stop giving them your money.

Since our plutocratic government has been run by and for the interest (label it business, conservatism, Republicanism or what it really is-economic psychopathic/fascism-) of a small percentage of sociopaths, hell-bent on their personal enrichment by any means necessary, (mass
unemployment/underemployment, the creation of a national police state, and endless wars) it has become apparent, that the facade of "freedom" has broken, and the stark reality of the way things actually are, is slowly yet inexorably entering the consciousness of working people everywhere, it's about damn time!

As far as shopping is concerned? I will be shopping, at the local Saturday farmers market.....United we are strong!

Remember remember, the 5th of November!

We are legion, we do not forgive, we do not forget, expect us.

    • I know that this is not the topic of this post, but I watched the Presidents speech and Q&A from Cannes this morning. Can anybody imagine anyone from the GOP lineup that could even hold a candle to him on any level? His erudition, intellect, command of the facts are lightyears superior to not only those running for the Republican nomination, but anyone in their entire pathetic party.

I don't agree with him on all issues and those who blindly follow anyone 100% expecting total satisfaction are only setting themselves up for lives filled with regret. That said, the right wing can posture all they want but they, as well as the children on these comment boards who use the same tired 'teleprompter' lines and silly attempts at diversion, are scared beyond description. In fact, it is palpable.

They know in their heart of hearts that Barack Obama will serve a second term in the Oval Office and that Nancy Pelosi will once more be Speaker of the House. Nothing will stop that.

I agree what you say will happen, although I don't quite understand why the Repubs don't have stronger smarter candidates to choose from. I don't like their beliefs but I do believe they can at least muster up a candidate with some semblance of a brain who is electable. With the political environment the way it is right now I would think they would put up a candidate closer to the "Center" so they could at least have a chance of putting someone in the white house.

I voted Obama but have been completely disappointed, in my opinion he needs to go too. He isn't backing the 99%ers so I don't believe he has our best interest at heart. My vote is for an intellectual non-career politician, someone who is standing out in the streets right now.

    • This is a stupid idea.
For the same reason not buying gasoline on a certain day is.
If I need gas on a Saturday, but refuse to buy anything on that day, I'll just buy it on Sunday. I'll spend the same amount. Nobody is losing a customer.

A smarter thing to do, is if you MUST buy something, buy from small businesses, mom-and-pop stores, etc. Because that money will get circulated back into your local economy. Big corporations don't get that money (at least not directly). Though it may be more expensive, supporting you local economy is the best way to generate local business, thus local jobs, etc.

      Businesses eat money.
If you want to hurt a business give your money to their competitors.
Waiting a day to buy something, and then giving that money to the same old places won't make a statement, and will be looked upon with as much impact as a fart in the breeze.
