The Herman Cain Scandal & the Tragedy of Modern American Politics

Matt Gratz, Political Fail Blog--

In America each registered citizen is entitled to one vote for the presidential candidate of their choice, this is our way of democracy at it's most basic explanation, but there is so much more going on behind the scenes that guides the nation towards acceptance of one particular candidate than most are aware of. Humans are social creatures who feel the need to know what is happening in other peoples lives, and the corporate media knows and loves this fact. Gossip trumps current events/needs any day in the modern American political propaganda machine also known as political theater, and still too many people are spell-bound audience members rather than participating actors.

I have no plans of voting for a Republican or Democratic presidential candidate in 2012 but I still feel the need to comment on the recent sexual harassment scandal that is sharing half of the 24 hour news cycle with the Micheal Jackson murder trial. (The doctor was found guilty, let's move on. I'm sure Micheal would not want to seek revenge.)

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain was apparently a sexist pig in the 90's (and most likely still is) as more than two woman have come forward to expose this man's questionable personality. This 15+ year old sexual harassment scandal will and should make people think twice about supporting a man who treats women in such a disrespectful way, but it should not gain more attention than current human needs. As I write blog posts I either have the news on or some music, today I went for CNN. I've been watching for a little over an hour and have only learned a couple new things. One: Conrad Murry will be going to jail; Two: A fourth woman named Sharon Bialek has also decided to tell the world of her sexual harassment encounter with Cain, via celebrity attorney Gloria Allred. The woman is not seeking to sue Mr. Cain, she is only seeking a public acknowledgement that he sexually harassed her in the 1990's.

"Just admit what you did. Admit you were inappropriate to people. And then move forward. America is in a horrible turmoil as we all know. We need a leader who can set an example which exemplifies the standards of a good person and moral character. Mr. Cain, I implore you, make this right. So that you and the country can move forward and focus on the real issues at hand," Bialek said.

Sharon Bialek, whom I sympathize with if her allegations are true, is creating a major media event by bringing up decades old allegations of a major sexual scandal, to tell the country that she wants the media to start focusing on "the real issues at hand", but only after a major presidential candidate does something that will sign the death certificate to his candidacy. She is not seeking any damages, just attention. Just sayin'...

The fact is that not one of the current candidates, short of Ron Paul, is willing to do anything that will actually make way for the changes that we all are seeking. All the major candidates still see the need to maintain a major military presence around this tiny rock we call home, they all see the need to enable our fossil fuel addiction, and most of all they all feel the need to maintain the status quo consumerism society that leaves the majority of humans and allot of animals living in a state of fear and suffering.

Perhaps the Mayans, Native American Hopi and other ancient cultures were up to something when they told of major changes happening around this space in time. Whether or not you feel some connection with something greater than what you know or not, it is undeniable that something is happening in the world today, something that is causing people all over the planet to realize their potential and decide to do something to make positive change.

The Occupy movement is continuing to sweep the nation and other countries despite the massive push back from police forces and local and soon to be federal government officials. To those who have made the decision to be a part of this shift in conciseness from a state of fear to a state of love, stay strong, drink allot of water and continue to spread your light as it will all come back to light your way when it's most needed. We have already won because this is not a battle, this is simply a shift in thinking. Refuse what you know to be wrong, always.
