LePage: Cut welfare and MaineCare or we’ll have to cut education

AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. Paul LePage told members of the Higher Education Council on Wednesday that if lawmakers do not reduce Medicaid and welfare benefits, education funding will need to be cut to bring the state budget into balance.
“Eighty percent of the budget is Medicaid and welfare and education,” he said. “If the Legislature has the political will to fix the problem, education will keep the additional $63 million we gave it.”
LePage urged the leaders of the state’s colleges and universities, public and private, to encourage their lawmakers to support his proposals to reduce Medicaid, called MaineCare in this state, and welfare spending.
He has not spelled out his proposals to address the projected $70.9 million shortfall in DHHS this budget year, but in comments to the group Wednesday he said Maine should not provide coverage through MaineCare that is greater than the national average.

I am a nurse caring for a totally handicapped young man. He cannot be left alone at all. He has a tracheostomy, feeding tube, oxygen, and siezures. He is like the patients you see in the intensive care unit of the hospitals. The State wants to cut my job and the other nurses who care for him. This is like murder in my opinion. His parents cannot possibly care for him 24/7. This family is a hard working vital part of the professional community and will do all they can, but this is just absolutely crazy. I invite the Govenor to come visit this family. Maybe he could do a few shifts if I train him. I wish he would go after all the fraud in the State before cutting those is desperate need. Also do some cuts in the State pay rolls. Cut benefits. I get no sick pay, I get $5 for working a holiday. Have not had a raise in 8 years. Come on, lets get real.

I suppose raising taxes is considered a stupid idea? It's better to let the poor suffer than for the rich to pay a little more, is that it?

LaPage is an imbarrassment to us Mainers. Unfortunatly we have no recall in this State. That will be corrected as soon as he's gone. If we survive till then.
I know many young working people who's children would DIE without Mainecare. And I'm NOT kidding!

Here is a novel idea, collect taxes on the rich and wealthy corporations and you will have the funds needed to run the government, you know, like they used to do when this country was something we could be proud of. La Page is a typical representation of todays conservative push, but it's not conservatism it is fraud.
How can anyone with as much as a half a brain not be insulted by these sorry bastards? The sad thing is "stupid" is in the majority these days. That is the only reason I can come up with to explain why the sheeple vote against their own best interest.
Hey everybody, have a nice day!

What an embarrassment LePage is… not only to the State of Maine.. not only to the United States… but to civilisation itself.
This latest foray into depravity comes on the heels of the buffoonish, far-right governor vowing to pursue a Wisconsin-like plan to undercut Maine's public sector unions -- and now the public education system. As we all know, an uneducated populace is easier to control -- but even they would be light-years smarter than this buffoon.
All preceded by LePage trying to roll back Maine's child-labour laws (can you imagine??).
Which was preceded by LePage paying for tax cuts for the rich by cutting services for Maine's working class and (what is left of) Maine's middle class.
Which was preceded by LePage picking a fight with the Maine NAACP in which he said, "Tell them to kiss my bȗtt."
How could anyone in their right mind ever even consider someone like this for any public job (including street cleaner)?
On second thought…. just look to the average bagger.
Then there was the removal of a workers mural from the Labour Department lobby.. Just more blithering bluster to avoid actually having to focus on the real problems facing Maine... simply because if they did that, their breathtaking incompetence might eclipse their breathtaking ignorance.
They need not worry on that account.

From your mouth to Gods' ear!
This man has, and continues to tick me off.
To look at our budget and decide that we should limit the amount of food and health care our children will receive is outrageous.
When he states that we can't have a proper public school systems if we don't reduce funding for the health and welfare of Maine's most needy residents is insane. It is not what we are about.
He is plowing his way through our Maine and he really needs to loose some blood with that throat cut. Perhaps the pressure on his tiny brain might improve his ability to empathize and think for a change, instead of spewing venom, and challenges to try and stop me look.
I often wonder if any of these idiotic, self absorbed, power hungry, bottom feeders have even considered what they would do if they only made $1000 per month. I would like just one of these cheese heads attempt to figure how a budget really works.
