Occupy movement makes sense to Ron Paul

While Republican attitudes towards Occupy Wall Street protesters have been largely negative, GOP hopeful Ron Paul aligned himself with those participating in the movement during last night’s televised presidential debate.
In support of the agenda of the thousands of Americans participating in the Occupy movement, Texas Congressman Ron Paul said Wednesday night, “if you’re going after crony capitalism, I’m all for it.”
According to Paul, crony capitalists are those “that benefit from contract from government, benefit from the Federal Reserve, benefit from all the bailouts. They don’t deserve compassion. They deserve taxation or they deserve to have all their benefits removed.”
“But crony capitalism isn’t when someone makes money and they produce a product,” added the candidate. “That is very important. We need to distinguish the two. And unfortunately I think some people mix that.”
Meanwhile, former House speaker and fellow GOP hopeful Newt Gingrich attacked Occupy Wall Street defended corporate America and called out the Occupy Wall Street protesters for what he implied was taking an ignorant stance against their country.
“What is amazing to me is the inability of much or our academic world, much of our news media and much of the people on Occupy Wall Street to have a clue about history,” said Gingrich, to which the crowd in Michigan responded with a round of applause. “In this town, Henry Ford started as a Edison Electric supervisor who went home at night and built his first car in his garage. Now was he in the 99 percent or the one percent?” he asked. “Bill Gates drops out of college to found Microsoft. Is he in the one percent or the 99 percent? Historically this is the richest country in the history world because corporations succeed in creating both profits and jobs, and it is sad that the news media doesn’t report accurately how the economy works,” the former speaker said.
"I have yet to hear a single reporter ask a single Occupy Wall Street person a single rational question about the economy that would lead them to say, for example, 'Who is going to pay for the park you are occupying if there are no businesses making a profit?' "
If Gingrich’s comment have him to lose the support of any Occupy protesters who were considering him as a candidate, the media was quick to call Rick Perry’s campaign over yesterday evening after his now-infamous gaffe in which the Texas governor couldn’t name a crucial part of his campaign. Even if the flub doesn't cause Perry to formally bow out from the race, analysts are already saying that the governor's odds of claiming the GOP nod are practically nonexistent. With Perry and Paul both teetering on the top tier of candidates, some close to the race say that last night's screw-up could create an opportunity for Paul to close in on the nomination.
“We fish from the same pot as Perry sometimes,” campaign chairman Jesse Benton told Politico following Perry’s mistake last night.
“For the first time in this race he looked comfortable and confident in giving answers, but none of that will be remembered. Instead we will remember him searching for words and relying on Ron Paul to bail him out,” conservative blogger Craig Robinson adds to the Washington Post.
Paul led in a CNBC online poll as the debate dwindled down, but the network pulled the results from their survey from the web shortly after.

      What about fractional reserve banking?

Also most securities are offered privately and not subject to new deal securities and exchange act, it was designed that way.

I agree with Glass-Stegall that banks should buy their own insurance for deposits instead of relying on taxpayer money from the FDIC.

And at the same time, the onus is on YOU to not bank with a company that moves derivatives from their investment side to their retail side and backs up their debts with your deposits.(BOA and all the big five.) Why give your money to an openly corrupt corporation ?

    • If only the Ron Paul made sense to the "occupy" movement..... And he does, but that's not reflected by the msm...

      Let's see Paul wants to;

End military interventionism (which nobody wants to do because my gosh those corporations are about as rich as you can get, and when they donate, in undisclosed amounts.....)

End prohibition (which makes no sense, because if you legalized everything had it somewhat regulated at reasonable prices, you might be able to push a little education and treatment on people... Of course then the romanticism dies, there are not "renegades" at the methadone clinic....)

He also wants a full audit of the federal reserve, probably doesn't like our whole monetary system controlled by one private bank...

Hmmm... He wants to give people their rights and freedoms back, which is real hard for Americans to grasp because while they've been submitting to cavity searches at airports, their brothers and sisters are off fighting for their "freedoms".... I mean how could we, possibly, not, be in, a free society I mean our family members are off killing and dying to protect those freedoms... We must be free or they wouldn't be there.... (or Orwellian brainwashing has got the best of to many people already)

He would like to see the end to torture camps like GITMO... I mean we're never going to try those guys for any crimes and hold them for how long? Just doesn't seem fair....

He would like to see unions return to most businesses so the worker can have a stronger voice in negotiating fair pay...

I'm sure he's got a few more fresh ideas, but I'm not a paid spokesperson...

I just know I'll be happy when everyone is too stoned to give a shit about the next gadget some cut-throat corporation who's using slave labor in China is trying to push on us....

He also has a good stance against War and the MIC but I too could never vote for him because of his stance on eliminating; corporate regulations, the EPA, SS, Medicare, etc....

Under a Ron Paul administration people could be turned away from hospitals because they would ALL be private and people would be allowed to die for lack of money to pay for treatment. The air and water would be Far more polluted than they are now. Corporations would have Kids working for $4 an hour or less in third world like conditions. Fewer people could get healthcare because it would be too expensive for all but the well off, really not far from where we are now.:( Kids of parents who make less than $35,000 a year, 40% or more of the kids, would not be able to go to school at all because there would be NO public schools and only the Rich or extremely athletic could afford college because there would be NO government help for college and the lower paying jobs would never be enough for someone to pay for college. Air travel would be FAR more dangerous because there would be no regulations. And MANY other reasons why Ron Paul could NEVER get the vote of a true Progressive or Liberal.

Actually, I would prefer Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren, but since they are not on the ticket and under our current system they would not have a chance as Independents, I will vote for anyone that has a realistic chance at defeating the TeaPublican obstructionists. To me the Most important issue is defeating the TeaPublican agenda and if that means voting for Obama then that is what I will do. It is the 2016 elections that I am pushing for my choices to be nominated! We must take things one step at a time and it is going to be a Long road but I am ready for the fight.

'Spot On' positive feature o' the Paul philosophical/political package ; there is more in question about the mans belief system and hierarchy of values, but I think he is on the right side of this one.
