We have a community college...owned by a larger college, owned by a larger college and the list continues.
They too, got rid of many instructors and now employ part-timers. Not much left to offer, actually. Which is shameful as I live in a poorer rural community that does not have access to much but on-line schools, which are WAYYYY more expensive.Sorry to hear about this Pro.....

Yeah- pretty soon all you'll have to do is borrow a half million, lie in a bathtub, and use one digit to click through your "education." Fuck society, fuck cooperation, fuck human interaction- the cyber world is there waiting for your flaccid drool to get you through advanced calc.

College is a place to learn and develop skills so that you can take part in higher paying jobs or jobs that require fundamental skills that high school would fail to teach you. The problem remains access along with the price needed to attend college. The other problem relates to the much needed funds that individual states give to public colleges as they've time on time again cut needed funds.

The politicians have caved in to corporate interests who wish to create a class of uneducated workers. Funds that once would have been used to fund public education now go into the prison system, corporate tax breaks, and payoffs to legislators.

This is just sad and sickening. I recall that you said this was a possibility coming your way - it's an insult to you and the rest of the instructors laid-off, and I'm sorry it's happened to you. It's doubly sad for the students and in the long term, for society as a whole - what in HELL are "they" thinking!!
You're so right in saying that college is a "connection" - a community - and I find it frightening that our educational institutes are being dismantled at a time when advanced education is arguably the most important process in our society. You can bet this is not happening in China or India - in those countries education is of high value, starting in pre-school and kindergarten.
We're seeing it happen here too; it's shows an amazing short-sightedness in our politicians. In the long term, they'll see less income in the form of taxation.
The politicians here are also doing this to nurses - they refuse to hire part-time and full-time nurses; instead, they hire nurses as "casuals" and have the right to call them on short notice to work at unfamiliar sites anywhere within 50 km radius of home. It results in confusion, and poor patient care - it's nearly impossible for anyone to just walk into an unfamiliar facility, and simply give ample care - but the gov't saves money in that they don't have to pay for benefits.

We need a completely nonviolent, assertive, inexorable revolution to take back our country from the bean counters, thieves, grifters, con artists, and predators who are killing off our communities. It has to be nonstop, strong, and focussed. We need to make this coming summer one that will rejuvenate our spirits and crush the criminals.

I agree that the way workers are being treated these days is just wrong but put blame where is belongs. The Corporations are doing this to them, not the government. It is the Lack of government regulations that has allowed it but the Corporations are the Criminals here and should be strictly regulated if they want Any public funds because they have proven themselves to be Criminally Greedy whenever allowed.

Yes, and they need to stop trying to bust our Union. They're doing it to the Teachers' Union too. There are those (Corporatists) who are dismantling and destroying our system from the inside - it's been underway for several years - Insurance Companies with an obvious agenda - and with tentacles into our government.

Sorry to hear that but not surprised. It has become the American Corporatocracy way to make more profits for the already rich off the backs of the working class. The MONEY does not care about people. When I talk about raising taxes on the Rich I always hear "That's just class War!" to which I reply "YES it is! And we are finally starting to fight back!"

You are really causeing me to think again. I myself have little book learnings and those that know me love any way. However I can see that those that are in power and control how such matters are handled are doing what is in the best intrest of those they work for. I'm afraid that it is no longer the People that are asking to be taught in order to make this a better world. .....Now for the funny.......An all this time I though Collage was for avoiding getting drafted.

While that is true it helps to be able to read the contract that is going to put your soul in the hands of those that you borrow money from in order to attend the collage of your choice. An them folks that used to think having a couple grand in credit card debt was bad. From what I have heard folks today are leaveing collage with thirty grand or more in debt. That just isn't right no way no how.

Yes, the money it takes to go to college these days is outrageous. Textbooks are at least $100 new, and tuition is incredibly high. The worst part about it is that college administrators make about three times as much as instructors make. I can't for the life of me understand why people put up with it. One instructor is worth three administrators.

Because those that make the rules are the ones that say who gets paid what. They are like those in congress they give themselves pay raises just for pissing in the right room.....Oh and Teachers are worth four or five administrators at least.

Na, they are not that rich and the 1% keep the door to that club locked. They are the supporters of the 1% and their agendas who think that they will be able to go to that club someday so they want to protect it for themselves in the future. Sometimes I don't know which is more dangerous to society, the ones in the club or the ones who protect the club thinking they are protecting their own future.
