According to the allegations in the Penn State scandal, a pedophile was allowed to brutally assault/molest numerous young boys because no one dared to upset the very lucrative apple cart that is college sports. And, as commentator Frank DeFord speculated on NPR today

    • This is not Capitalism, this is Entertainment were the football is concerned and the elevation to Hero status for actions that are not the least heroic.
The other is Cronyism, which should only be called capitalism if it made money without subsidies, tariffs or meddling with children's nutrition. In this case it's called exploitation.
And they wonder why the 99% don't have a focal point? The choices are too many, we need to start pulling all the strings until we reach the biggest knots and then focus on unraveling them.

    • Yes, yes it does. Why, because capitalism promotes exploitation of all human resources - people are disposable assets and commodities. Children can't defend themselves so are therefore the most exploitable and a variety of fronts.

I fear you are correct. At least when capitalism is revered over all else, this seems to be the case.

Then again, such exploitation and abuse exists in other systems. Perhaps is it commerce over communalism that is the culprit.

Did you know that in an accident the insurance companies don't have to pay much for a killed or maimed child - because they can't evaluate the worth of that child? If an adult is killed or maimed they can evaluate lost future earnings and lost productivity etc., but not kids. Something is very much askew in this country.
