Money is only a concept so we are always willing to say sure "we'll just owe you 20 trillion for your help" and then when you can't repay it in raw resources like you promised the people revolt. I have always wondered why we ALL just don't drop the debt to zero! start clean, no one owes anyone. We all stand up as one people and tell the world bank it's out of business becuase we say so!

agreed...many civilizations in the past wiped debt to zero every seven years...money is a concept we can move beyond though as is control of others and all

Sometimes when I think I am on top of things and globally aware, something like this comes along and reminds me how little I really know...
I agree with ThirdSection, "Let's do this!" If we do we can once again lead the world, but this time truly on the side of democracy and government of and by the people.

Whether some choose to except it or not this will be the way of the future. Every corporate mogul will fight it but it is inevitable. When we went from an industrial based economy to a service based we only speeded up the process, it was to be. Not for the most obvious reasons but as a result of population and core developments between east(Asia) and west. Asia is kickin our buts and we can't do squat to stop it. It just is. How we finally catch up with the rest of the world as for as humanity's sake will be a question.

Iceland is the model that shames the EU. That's why you don't see coverage of it.

It's not in the news because corporate entities that control the mainstream media are scared to death of the "Iceland precedent" catching on since almost every country in western world is facing sovereign default in the near to midterm future.
Instead of bailing out their banks and making the tax payer pay off the bank's gambling debts, Iceland gave the international banker's the one-finger salute, took the hit and defaulted.
At the time, the MSM was screaming that if Iceland didn't bailout their banks and went bankrupt, they would never recover and become a third world for the rest of the century.
Here we are in 2011. After taking the short term pain, Iceland's economy is growing faster than the Euro-zone. An amazing country with some of the last free peoples on earth.
Greece should takes it's cues from Iceland, default, leave the Euro, and return to the Drachma.

In fact Iceland's economy is growing at a faster pace than the U.S. economy and their unemployment rate is also lower than that in the U.S.
