A lawmaker from the same party as the president is asking for an investigation of Obama’s suspicious $433-million contract with a democratic donor’s pharmaceutical company for an unapproved, experimental smallpox drug.Sen. Claire McCaskill, a democratic representative from the state of Missouri, has asked the Department of Health and Human Services to look into the White House’s recent deal inked between the Obama administration and Siga Technologies Inc, the manufacturer of a smallpox pill that is coincidently owned by a major campaign donor and crony of the commander-in-chief.
A report from earlier this month revealed that Siga had secured a $433-million deal with the White House to manufacturer an unapproved drug to be kept in America’s surplus stockpile of smallpox medication. The president’s relationship with controlling shareholder Ronald O Perelman has raised eyebrows, but it has also been divulged that Siga was offered the sole contract for the drug without the government seeking out any competition from fellow pharmaceutical companies.
The United States currently has $1 billion worth of smallpox vaccines on the ready, which is more than enough to aid the entire country in case of an epidemic. While the experimental drug, ST-246, has yet to be proved effective, it has also yet to be evaluated or approved by the FDA and is being purchased at a whopping $255 per pill.
As the Siga scandal develops, Sen. McCaskill has asked the DHHS to investigate, citing “serious questions” over their contract. McCaskill also serves on the Senate Subcommittee on Contracting and Oversight; she was also one of the first senators to back Barack Obama during his campaign for the presidency in 2008 and was rumored to be a potential candidate for running mate.

Should Russia ever decide to attack us, that would be their weapon of choice. They have a copy of the virus, according to the CDC. It's cheap, silent, and effective.

Smallpox? We are in deep trouble if they are expecting small pox back. When my daughter was born, early 70s, I was bewildered to find out that with all the vaccinations babies, youngsters got on schedule, small pox was no longer being given. "Oh, it's been eradicated, nobody gets that one anymore" was basically what I was told. Still not comfy about that and she is pushing 40.
So, is somebody planning on releasing that back into the population? If so, we lose whole generations. WTF?
And weren't the only samples of the disease left all supposed to be locked carefully away in government labs? So are the US and Russia planning to reintroduce this one?
Anytime I read about a big vaccination plan to ward off some disease TPTB whip up lots of panic about, I remember the very short lived, short news cycle story from very early in the george W bush administration about a drug to 'calm large urban populations' that the DOD had, but was stumped about how to administer to masses of people.
Smallpox? Really? So we are worried about it? Did it get out of the labs? Or is this just more terra terra terra mind-fuck crowd control?
Not nearly so concerned about corporate donors to pols for swell contracts, that is standard operating procedure in the United States under Corporate rule. But, smallpox? That is worrisome.

Every single drug we have had an "unapproved, experimental" phase. There are drugs being sold to the public right now that have yet to be approved by the FDA. We have to experiment. Also experimenting with a drug for one thing can lead to finding out it's good for other things as well. I think it great to question everything, but I dont agree that Obama has got some hidden motive. Or maybe he knows something we don't about the drug. Maybe its a cure for Leukemia in the works and he just cant say, because more tests need to be done.
