I am so looking forward to the day when our LGBT brothers and sisters are equal in every way, and what they do in the privacy of their homes is of no more interest to anyone than what my husband and I do.

Of course it was. Countries who have done this long ago could have told all the naysayers, had they been willing to listen.
Here's a Palm Centre study done after Canada integrated LGBT people into the military in 1992. The study concludes this event had zero impact on military performance.
Followup studies found no increase in disciplinary or performance issues, sexual misconduct, recruitment or resignation problems.
