Investigators say the woman threw her eight year old son out of a window then stabbed her four year old daughter to death.
The woman allegedly tried to attack police, that's when officers shot and killed her.
Neighbors say the single mom was struggling to make ends meet. She had lost her job and had no utilities in the home she was renting.
The eight year old survived the fall from the window, he is staying with relatives.

"...single mom was struggling to make ends meet. She had lost her job..." Should we feel sorry for this "mother"? Would people feel sorry if it was a father instead of mother? I have never heard such excuse for a man.

The tragic murder of the child is the most important in this story. But please notice a short story spends much of the effort on the reasons to justify such horrific violence. Gender is a major factor in judicial decisions. Consistent pattern of justification for female perpetrator and consistent attack on public opinion that female perpetrators should always be excused. This basically points to inequality in judicial system and manipulation of public perception based on the gender of perpetrator.
