Senate approves indefinite detention and torture of Americans

Only seven members of the US Senate voted against the National Defense Authorization Act on Thursday, despite urging from the ACLU and concerned citizens across the country that the affects of the legislation would be detrimental to the civil rights and liberties of everyone in America. Under the bill, Americans can be held by the US military for terrorism-related charges and detained without trial indefinitely.
Additionally, another amendment within the text of the legislation reapproved waterboarding and other “advanced interrogation techniques” that are currently outlawed.
"The bill is an historic threat to American citizens,” Christopher Anders of the ACLU tells the Associated Press.
For the biggest supporters of the bill, however, history necessitates that Americans must sacrifice their security for freedom.
Senator Lindsey Graham, a backer of the legislation, says current laws protecting Americans are too lax. Rather, says the senator, anyone suspected of terrorism "should not be read their Miranda Rights. They should not be given a lawyer."
Graham adds that suspected terrorists, “should be held humanely in military custody and interrogated about why they joined al-Qaeda and what they were going to do to all of us,” although other legislation in the bill isn’t exactly humane. Waterboarding, sleep-deprivation and other methods outlawed in the 2005 Anti-Torture Act will be added to a top-secret list of approved interrogation techniques that could be used on suspects, American or other.
Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte said last week that "terrorists shouldn't be able to view all of our interrogation practices online,” and Senator Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) added during debate this week, "When a member of Al Qaeda or a similar associated terrorist group, I want . . . them to be terrified about what's going to happen to them in American custody.”
"I want them not to know what's going to happen,” added the senator and former presidential candidate.
Not only won’t they know their gruesome future, but they wouldn’t know their own rights — that’s because they won’t have any.
"We need the authority to hold those individuals in military custody so we aren't reading them Miranda rights," adds Kelly.
While lawmakers rallied with overwhelming support to approve the legislation against terrorists, it can also be applied to anyone, including American citizens, who are even suspected of terrorist-ties.
President Barack Obama has pledged in the past that he would veto the legislation if it made through Congress, and a White House official told the AP on Thursday that that threat still stands. As Obama is faced with a country on the brink of economic collapse so close to Election Day, however, a change of heart couldn’t be out of the question — the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 comes at a price-tag of nearly $30 billion below what Obama had asked for.

I wonder how long they'll wait before they stamp their phony "terrorist" label on the OWS protesters. Remember how they used 9/11 to scare all of us into accepting all of these anti-terrorist security measures? Well, now we see their true intent. These are tools to be used against us, exactly as intended from the beginning. We are to be slaves that toil for the betterment of the elite. That is all. We are cattle. When resources run low and the masses are starving, the elite will be protected from us.

That's why there are Cinematic fictitious scenarios of the future for all

Forewarned is forearmed. In Starship Troopers 2, they illustrate the use
of propaganda to brainwash to prove what George Owell said: " Truth
is the 1st casualty of any war. And in any culture where war without end
is accepted, and deception so pervasive, merely stating the truth will
be seen as if an act of armed Rebellion & Revolution. " Starship Troopers
3 featured an actor who also starred in the movie Hancock a few years back.
He was labeled a " Peace Terrorist " They publicly executed several
Peace Terrorists through a Television event. He was hanged in a wheelchair.
But they allowed him some last words so they could all laugh like devils.
In the last of the trilogy they personified a traitor responsible for masacres

All this theme is a metaphor for the Hellish nightmare of the modern day

To have 93 Senators vote for this while 'Occupy' is being hacked away by police and Mayors who ban the media while ignoring our right to peaceably assemble.
Does anyone, I mean sincerely, ANYONE; believe the 1st Amendment can legally be circumvented by a local Municipality's regulations about what permits are needed and how many can assemble before certain regulations kick in???What do the words mean, "make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"? The issue of whether this act included individual States and Municipalities was decided in 1925 and it was ruled it encompassed every corner of this country. So why is this happening? Where are the Senators and Representatives who are supposed to represent the majority and uphold the Constitution?
I have one hope, that if this law is enacted allowing the US Military to arrest anyone in this country deemed to be an enemy of its people and constitution; the first thing they do is arrest every damn legislator that voted for this act. They are traitors and nothing more.
This shit is bringing tears to my eyes as I write. Where did my country go?

The US Virgin Islands is not governed by the US Constitution, we have something called The Revised Organic Act of 1954.
This is because these Islands were purchased from the Danish Government in 1916.
I can say this unequivocally, there would never be a situation where our National Guard would turn on its fellow Virgin Islanders and unless this act allows for invading a US Territory and declaring Martial Law, I feel much safer here than in the States.
What are you cowards allowing to happen?
From afar I'm watching the country I fought for being taken over and being dismantled brick by brick and right by right. The Constitution being completely ignored. Giving US troops police powers in the US.
That's what these little wars are in Afghanistan and Iraq, police actions, used to train our military to come back home and become the new "Super Police". No Miranda Rights, no Habeus Corpus and no due process. You'll just become one of the disappeared.
We can't vote for President, we don't have a Senator and I guarantee you our Congresswoman would never vote for this.
I pray people wake up! All but 7 Senators voted for a bill that in effect turns America into a Fascist Country. Get rid of the 93 other Senators now. - 6 months ago

Sent this to both my Senators as they voted for this Bill:
It appears that we are sinking further and further into a police state. I am appalled that S. 1867: National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2012 was approved by the Senate and that both New York Senators voted in favor of it. It will allow for the indefinite detention of anyone suspected of "terrorism", whether foreigners or citizens. We have sacrificed way too much of our liberty since 9/11. This law violates Article I, Section 9 of the Constitution of the United States, suspending the Writ of Habeas Corpus, and creates an Ex Post Facto law keeping those previously detained indefinitely.
I am very worried that you would have voted in favor of this Bill regardless of the affect it would have on the military. Further, as a veteran, our military budget is out of control. We spend more than every country on the planet for defense. Our battle fleet tonnage is greater than that of the next 13 largest navies combined. We spend nearly $1 trillion on defense while our roads crumble, schools are cutting important programs, people out out of work with little prospect of finding a job, etc.
We seriously need to look at what we are spending our dollars on. What is more important, education or supporting the military/industrial complex? What is more important, paying for health care or buying another air craft carrier?

How in gods name did they get this bill through the senate ? Is it so full off scared , fascists and power hungry old farts , that they rather give up human rights then their seats ??? I thought i wouldn't live to see the day that the states became a fascist state , but sadly it has come into being .
We all know what people will be put in jail without trail ; poor , black and other free spirits that the government doesn't like .
As a result jails will get even more overcrowded and inhumane . Even though i am not an american , I am ashamed for you .
And what surprises me even more is that Obama didn't veto this !

Excuse me, PressCore, but just to clarify here briefly to not derail from the important topic of the thread- no one was doing anything to him. I believe the post in question was a personal attack so I assume that was why it was removed. I too have had posts flagged and removed in my time here and didn't take it upon myself to come back into the thread to stomp my feet saying I was leaving to make myself look like the victim and turn the attention to myself when I was the one who broke the rules. If you personally attack someone here there are rules. They may seem unfair, but believe me they do apply to all. The comments made to me by him btw regarding me being an imbecile, etc.were all meanspirited and unnecessary in a thread where the conversation was merely about the EU and my opinion on what I see as a fascist tone predominating there of late in comparsion to what has just been done to the freedom of American citizens. I greatly appreciate your thoughtful words, mate. I sense it must be half
curse & half blessing to serve perfectionism, as the personal pattern God
ordained on any human soul. For though none of us could ever reach
that goal as a destination, as Einstein said, which Star Trekers embrace,
our reach must always exceed our grasp because life would be a petty
thing if it didn't constantly seek to expand it's boundaries. So I push the
envelope unaware it might be felt by others as stepping on their feelings.
I seem to be constantly editing every other writing seeking that goal-to
perfectly express a thought. Nothing I write is usualy realy good enough.Yet life is a human business, and I'm glad to be part of a social community.
Our minds encounter people of all walks of life, at stages of personal
evolution both more and less advanced than our own, with exceptional
insights to share, and unique perspectives to relate. As in the intro to
Steven Spielberg's TV series Amazing Stories, we're still modern Cro
Magnons, of various tribes called nations, sitting aroiund the campfire,
swaping experiences to learn from. Communication is essential to Peace.I can't wait to travel again. I haven't lived in the Czeck Republic yet though

I have Colorado & Texas. From Texas thru the Dakotas, travelers can
witness the truth. That humans travel in a straight line into the horizon,
but the Earth is as round as it is a flat plain. Thanks again. I might in
advertently put my foot in my mouth, at times, but I haven't lost my
manners, or my mind. P.S. I NEVER see myself as great & wise, for
if I did, i couldn't be. I only see myself as less petty & less foolish ( on
the flip side ) en route to better reflecting greatness & wisdom, virtuously. - 6 months ago

Interesting. Must be something to live in Israel. I'll just be happy
to live in Amsterdam on a passport visa seeking resident foreign
alien status. It's said the Constellation Cancer rules over Holland
which is Midheaven for me too. With the kind of cosmic harmony
that bodes for, and all the good level headed things I've read &
heard about the Dutch I suspect I'll fit right in. And that's all I want.
I have no criminal record, and am of Dutch descent, so I may well
want to acquire dual nationality in your country to augment my U.S.

For one you will be better off if you do .But Holland is rapidly declining into a sub sort of mini USA , with healthcare going rapidly and everything we dutch where proud off is going down the tubes . With all the right wing and semi right wing party's calling the shot's now .
But still ,we have better living conditions here, and you won't starve if you have no job . That's also one off the things that is changing by the way . And i hate it ! I would avoid Amsterdam as a place to live . Rents are through then roof and it's a filthy city . You could go south and go for the bourgondian way ( if you know what i mean ) or the more "down to earth " north . The city's are smaller but more comfortable to live and less crime.
I don't know about the cosmic harmony thing ..... That has seemed to pass us by this time .
But you'll have your first contact in the Netherlands as it is commonly known .
Great that you have dutch roots . There are a lot of Americans with a dutch ancestor , but what i pick up off tv is that the community's that hold the dutch way of life high , do so in a very old fashion way . Seem to think we are still in the 1800 'ds and still talk like that .
Heer is a word that we only use in letters to officials . it's more like sir now , witch in dutch is ;
meneer (spoken)
mijnheer (written )If you speak a little (old) dutch . Things are far less formal now .And less civil in most cases .
You should have no problems coming over and getting dutch papers . especially if you have family here .

Outstanding, brother ! You've got a deal. It might not be possible
for me to take you up on your offer until sometime in 2013, but it
sounds great. Until then we should keep in touch. You can Email me
anytime through Current.com or at my Google Email address, which
is: Franklinspark@gmail.com. ( It's named after one of our American
heros from the American Revolution, Benjamin Franklin. He was Jewish
I think. His surname derives from the franklin class in England dating
back to William Shakespeare's era. The emerging middle class in
England sought to be landed gentry, to be the squire of their mannor.
That's the financial motive for Shakespeare's becoming so prolific in
his manuscripts. Jewish, Benjamin's family sought land ownership too.I want to acquire citizenship in another country yet still retain my U.S/N.Y.
citizen ship, as a dual national. I've had my eye on acquiring citizenship
in either a European country, or Australia. Of all the European countries,
the Netherlands, or Switzerland has been in focus for some time now. I've
lived in Geneva, Switzerland, not an E.U. country as the Netherlands is.
It was awesome. I wasn't ready to live there when I visited on a 90 day
passport visa in 1979. But I will be soon enough. I need to live in a foreign
country at least 6 months of the year having a policy tolerant to Cannabis
for medical marijuana reasons. Australia, Switzerland, Netherlands for eg.The Dutch have one of the most advanced medical establishments
of any country, ostensibly, from what I understand. That fact, that it
was Dutch people who interacted with the S.Africans, seems to bode
well for what's been Dutch policy since the 1970s. I know of the change
in the law to be determined over the remaining part of the 5 years,
which bans rowdy, disorderly, loud foreigners from crossing Dutch
borders to patronize the MJ coffee houses in Amsterdam for intoxication.
They've caused a lot of nuissance. I wouldn't want their kind for my
neighbors, or within a mile of any school, hospital, or church either.
I'd prefer to buy my 5 grams, and use an inhaler so I wouldn't get
intoxicated. The fastest delivery method to the brain isn't medicly
advisable. Smoking anything causes incredible damage on many levels.
But there's no chance of my demeanor causing Disorderly Conduct
in any event. I'm a Zen Bhuddist who meditates daily for 9 years now.
It's always had a sedative effect on me even when I've smoked it.
It helps me sleep, meditate, Makes me better company, social too.Yeah, I understand about the right wing parties seeking to dominate.
It was the Rothschilds, Morgens, Rockefellers et al of this world who,
since the 1700s, presumed the leverage their usery fortune gave them
could be the " central control " behind fomenting all the 20th century
World Wars which devastated the Netherlands in the 1940s. These
Banksters, as we call them here, (Bank + Gangsters=Banksters) have
sought to invade, divide, conquer the USA without firing a shot since
1910 here. The Banksters funded the Kaiser, funded Hitler, are likely
manipulating the collapse of the Euro, which replaced the guilder, to
forclose on all of Europe. The Rothschilds' " Fed " central bank & their
Goldman Sachs are constructed like a giant octapus w/vampire fangs.
We've blogged 1910 American newspapers showing American people
of that era knew they were/are blood suckers. Their interlopers who
depend on their Ponzi Scheme debt based currency to be redeemed
for genuine coined money to fleece citizens/their Governments while
they use national debts, instead of a nuclear arsenal, as the Banksters'
weapons of mass destruction. Like a Neutron bomb, they want to take
over & hold title to all public & private property. They Bribe Government
people here to carry out their Bankster Naziism. It's a dead giveaway
that, as the Banksters create their legtimized counterfeit currency out
of thin air, the U.S.Senate now attempts to create their Nazi Revolution
the same way, as they have no legitimate lawful authority to enact #1867.But the sands are running out for these Nazis/ Bankster confederates.
The OWS protest movement is an extension of the Velvet Revolution
of the Czeck Republic of the 1990s. They outsted their Communist
self styled slave masters' Coercion, secret police, nightly abductions
in secret like the Gestapo, to Murder the people of conscience who
spoke out against them. And so we will prevail here too. People forget
the entire reason why the USA is so heaviuly invested in from all over
the world is because it's rock solid stable. It doesn't take magic to effect
radical change back to our Revolution's American Heritage. All it takes
is waking people up from the mass hypnosis mind control of TV ass media.
Thanks for affording me the opportunity to speak to you citizen Richard.
Experienced in hobbies including organic farming, cooking, home brewing,
which are the forte of the Netherlands' cosmic Constellation Cancer heritage,
something from my Deutche family heritage on my father's father's side:Mann ist was man Isst. That flies for all as spirits in a material world equaly.
We can accept that we are all spiritualy immortal, living our lives positively
with confidence in the Providence smiling on us, or we can put ourselves
under the yoke of our own fear, allow the tyrany of other cowards to bleed us.
But as my family hero, a Roosevelt put it: " The only thing we have to fear
is fear itself "From the Roman poet Seneca: " It is not that we don't dare because things
are difficult, but rather that things are difficult because we don't dare enough.
Even the most dire circumstances vanishes before us when we face them
with bold courage. Fortune favors the brave. Because life either expands
or contracts in direct proportion to the force of will we exert before it "" Those showing courage when standing with the many are common. But
those showing courage when standing alone are rare, and immortal "

Yes, he is . But he got it through because he play'd the fear card . Just as Bush did and Bush before him . Of course terrorists are real , but the threat is vastly overstated as we all know . And cars kill more people then terror does ! Cigarette's kill more people then terror does . Are we as panic'd by that ? NO ! People will die . It's a fact of life for now .
People should be more scared of the loss of healthcare and homes , of poverty and people dying of no healthcare at all !

Brothers and sisters, you all can agree that the powers that direct the US government threaten life on the planet, as well as the lives of its citizens at home.
It won't be an easy struggle to change that, if indeed, it can be changed at all.
Yes, there are some marginally safer places to be, and I myself, keep those in mind, but at the core we are all responsible for doing as much as we can to change this tragedy we are all bound up in.
Work together if you can.
If you can't, you need to be of especially strong resolve.
But in that case, you need to do much more to equal what you might have accomplished together. - 6 months ago

Of course it can be changed ! If you believe otherwise for even a
microsecond you're allowing yourself to be deceived by foolish doubt.
It's taken humanity 5,000 years of recorded history to arrive at the
crossroads we're at now, itself only made possible by the Million years
of natural selection to put the players on the stage, the Billion years of
the formation for the stage itself. None of that was effected by accident.
It was all accomplished by the extremely slow, careful evolution planned
by Providence itself. The pyramid the free masons established as their
blueprint design 225 years ago was modled after the perfect geometric
design built to survive the ages. In novus ordo seclorum. We the People
ARE the new order of the ages. The USA itself was wrested from the
clutches of tyrany, madness, and it's oppression by only 1/3 of the people
called Patriots. Never ever underestimate what the power of only a relatively
small group of dedicated people, cooperating as one, can accomplish to
change the entire world. Because in all the History of humankind, they
are the only ones who've ever made the difference. Capiche ? - 6 months ago

You might be good enough to credit the source of the "change is only made by a few committed people" statement. (Margaret Mead, as I recall, but it may just as well been Emma Goldman, or Margaret Sanger.)
It doesn't build confidence in one's presentations to appropriate others words as one's own.In any case, Presscore, it wasn't "Providence."
If so, Providence has one interminably long and evilly twisted sense of humor. My beliefs, such as they, generally form on the top of piles of evidence. There's plenty to suggest the hyper-active branch of simians I belong to is driven more to destruction of everything that surrounds it than anything else.
I'm always happy to see some threads of hope in endless waves of news about the latest levels of destruction. I look for them, and I try to adopt them, if possible.
As far as I'm concerned the majority of the "We the People" in your construct are the same ravenous assholes that have been raping the planet and each other since they fell out of the trees.Still, there is always the slim possibility that one way or another, the vast numbers of viral overload the earth is suffering under now may recede and a more wise and more fitting strain of humans may evolve.
Personally, I can't wait. - 6 months ago

I can. I might be good enough to credit Margaret Meade, but her phrase
is public domain by now. I generaly only quote the orignal source if I know
it hasn't been plagarized and miscredited to others restating it after they've
appropriated it. When I see " anonymous " or someone else's name other
than the original source, I have to agree with your term hyper active simean.
Still we all have a place in the world. Though I don't object to being called
one of a race of ravenous assholes whose ancestors fell out of trees. I'd
not hold my breath waiting until better replacements came along. All human
traits are distributed under a bell shaped curve. And the more fitting strain
of humans you refered to likely wouldn't want to have either of us for their
neighbors. As for Providence, that's too mind boggling a concept for any
simean to fathom by any form of reason or madness. As John Lennon said:
" I don't believe in Beatles; I just believe in me " I think Miguel Cervantes
might have concurred. He claimed the most difficult, yet most important
lesson anyone could learn is to know oneself. We're all expendable. And
the universe would proceed just fine if we were never here. But there's
an important reason why humans are universal life forms & microcosms. - 6 months ago
