Please Help Save My College

Clatsop Community College, where I work, has had to lay off 40% of its instructors, because the State of Oregon has withdrawn its funding of the college due to low tax revenues. Oregon must step up to support the college in order to save its extremely valuable business, Spanish language, political science, and criminal justice programs, which have all been crippled by the budget cuts.
Last night I attended a rally in support of saving the college. This morning, inspired by the warmth and good will of the people I work with and the knowledge that we need to work together to keep our team whole, I created an online petition which I have directed to the Oregon State Legislature, Governor Kitzhaber, and our state and federal representatives. The title of the petition is "The Oregon State Legislature: Provide $900,000 in emergency funding to Clatsop Community College." I'm trying to collect 100,000 signatures, and I could really use your help. I want to save my job and the outstanding little college where I work. To sign my petition, please click here:
http://www.change.org/petitions/save-astorias-college
Once you're done, please ask everyone you know to sign the petition as well. Thank you.

$900,000 -- put that in perspective with the 4.5 million Chase gave NYPD to put down the OWS protest.

Who do community colleges serve?

Here's what one of my friends (and a colleague) said about why it's vital to keep this college and others like italive:
"Because the loss/breakdown of the community college system represents the loss of America's egalitarian ideals.
There are political orientations, which I do not share, that represent a Darwinian view. People holding this view are able to feel comfortable with the huge disparities between social groups and individuals on the basis of the belief that they deserve their privileged position in society. Some feel that they have earned their position through their life choices, while others seem to feel that the efforts of their ancestors warrant their position.
I would argue that this is psychological ploy which allows people to feel moral while skirting important social duties such as paying appropriate taxes, but I offer the following argument to anyone arguing for a Darwinian society.
If you wish to feel smug in thinking that others have "struck out" during their "turn at bat", and you wish to feel moral while ignoring the plight of your less financially successful brethren through a belief that they have "chosen not to play", then you must ensure that our society offers every individual the opportunity to "step up to the plate". This is one of the many roles of a community college.Community colleges then add to their traditional roles as community centers, and springboards to a better life/better community, by becoming the element of our society that allows those with Darwinian worldviews to form an argument to support their social complacency."
