Two kittens who were thrown mercilessly into a a bag and then dumped in the middle of the road are now available for adoption from and Iowa rescue group But if it weren't for the heroic actions of dog named Regan, they probably would not have survived.

WHOTV reports that the two kittens, named Tipper and Skipper, were sealed in a Meow Mix bag with the rest of the litter, and then left in the street. The bag had been run over by a vehicle, killing some of the kittens and making it difficult to tell exactly how many cats were inside. Somehow, Tipper and Skipper survived. "It was not a pretty sight," Linda Blakely from Iowa's Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary said.

That's when Reagan stepped in. He grabbed the bag, and carried it home. He didn't stop whining until his owner opened the bag. Covered in the blood and remains of the kittens who were killed, she found two seriously injured survivors.

"The instinct of the dog was to nurture and not kill the kittens. With all the blood some dogs would have responded to the scent. Reagan the dog is a hero," Blakely said.

Tipper and Skipper were traumatized and weak from the experience, and had to be fed with a bottle every two hours. They have recovered, and are now available for adoption. Blakely believed their their survival is proof that there is always a way to make things right, and wanted to remind pet owners that there's always a safe method to finding a new home for pets if you are unable to take care of them.

JUST now reading these replies... so far behind.

Anyway, thanks and hugs go to you and your wife for adopting five rescues. That's what it's ALL about. Don't buy -- adopt!

Glad I could find a "good" story, for a change.

    • If stupidity were painful, the shit for brains monster who threw those poor helpless creatures into that bag ... would be in pure fucking agony! I'm suddenly reminded of the scene in Powder where the asshole that enjoys shooting deer so enthusiastically is suddenly struck down with the very same pain the animals feels... so severely that he gives up hunting.

On a lighter note, Whooo Hoooo for Reagan!
I'm so happy that Tipper and Skipper apparently survived that nightmare. I only wish I could bring those two kittens home to join our pride...but alas, I live way down in the devilishly red state of Texas (and my wife might freak out as our 5 cats are all rescues).

    • Big Thanks to Reagan the Lab Hero!
It is horrible what some people will do to our animal friends.

We need stiff laws for animal abuse!

One look at the honest expression on that canine angel face...
One view into those angel eyes should tell you, the Lord's angels
come in all shapes & sizes, yes even all disguises. Dogs & cats
have saved humans ranging from babies to pregnant mothers to
very elderly solitary people from railroad trains, fires, earthquakes.
As they have psychic senses, they can sense events even before
they happen. Believe it or not, Ethical Vegan, I've even seen
equines (horses) save the lives of humans, and other creatures.

It should give anyone a sense of humility to understand that
humans aren't the only creatures made in the immage & likeness
of God. I wrote a very long post yesterday into a Current.com
article in defense of how horses are now on the menu in the
States as dogs & cats are bred for food in the orient, but shouldn't
be. I was hoping you'd read that article & chime in E.V. Still not
too late. But whether you comment on it or not, please read that
article too, will you ? My dear friend Animalia Libero isn't with us
as a community member anymore. Were he still here, he would
have made this point, because he loves animals dearly as I do.

I've raised a family of German Shepherds who were such eternal
best friends they're still my family though on the other side waiting
for me to depart for the haven they've returned to. The gift of their
lives to me as their companion is too precious for words to express.
I know I was born to be a Horse Whisperer & to breed them.too,
and guard them from harm. Dogs & cats & horses can't sit up and
play harps like Cary Grant did in his 1947 movie portraying a human
angel but I sense my celluliod hero, and especialy Reagan, Tipper
and Skipper being divinely sentient could understand by divine deeds
as we do w/language what it means to be angels and attain the divine:

Kung Fu meditation #15 aka the Bhuddachi ( life force of love )

Those being tolerant will also be just. Being just they will have
an open mind. With an open mind they will be open hearted.
Being open hearted they will act with grace. With open minds
and open hearts, and acts of grace, they will attain the divine.
Being divine ( as angels are ) they will be one with the way of
the Lord. Oneness with the way of the Lord brings immorality
of the spirit. Though our bodies will pass away, our eternal
oneness with THE ONE will last forever. Beauty is as beauty does.
      So say we all.

    • Labs are great family dogs. I have one, sort of. We have two dogs, one is a lab/german shephard mix and the other is a lab/pit bull mix, thus one lab.

    • Heinous to do this. Whoever did this is a murderer. And once again animals show us what is so lacking in so many humans. It reminds me of the story of the dog a couple years ago I think who went out onto a NJ highway to save another dog who had been left there with cars coming at it. He risked his own life to pull this other dog to safety on the side of the road. A lesson to be learned.

Homo Sapiens are the lowest form of life on the planet.

What other species of animal murders it's own kind for their possessions?

What other species of animal hunts and kills just for the fun of it?

What other species of animal deliberately destroys it's own environment without regard to it's progeny?

What other species of animal is both willing and capable of initiating a genocide?

What other species of animal is guilty of creating deliberate lies to instill hatred?

What other species of animal has the hubris to think that it is superior to other animals?

I'm very sorry, but the human animal would need a springboard just to reach the bottom rung of the ladder.

    • There are always such cruel a-holes out there who do stuff like this. If they didn't want the cats, they shouldn't of had them in the first place and
they could've found a more humane way to give them a home...not put them in the street to be killed! Thanks Reagan! You show you have more brains than humans....as animals usually do. Reagan is a cutie. He looks like a golden lab..aw. Labs are so good natured. Thanks for sharing this, EV. Voted up!

    • Of course, those of you who sort of know me won't be surprised if I comment on the final sentence of the article, which reads:

"Blakely believed their their survival is proof that there is always a way to make things right, and wanted to remind pet owners that there's always a safe method to finding a new home for pets if you are unable to take care of them."

Animals we adopt (HOPEFULLY adopt, not buy) and bring into our homes, our LIVES, are not "pets." They are not ours to own. In fact, if anything, they pretty much own US, and we must give them all the care and love and attention they need and deserve.

Two words I absolutely abhor, when it comes to my animal friends: "pets" and "own."

That's great news about Skipper and Tipper from such a horrible ordeal of evil cruelty.

It would be wonderful if they could be adopted together. After all, the best thing for a kitten (along with unconditional love and caring from everyone around them) is another kitten. Let them have the chance to be *kittens* and do what kittens do: play together, sleep together, eat together, and be happy together throughout their lives as they become full grown cats.

Skipper and Tipper are already bonded. I hope they are adopted together.

A big "thank you" to adorable Reagan. What an incredible dog!
