What Is The Best Country In The World For Americans To Relocate To In Order To Avoid The Coming Economic Collapse?

Revelation1217
Millions of American citizens have already left the United States in search of a better life. As the economy continues to crumble and as our society slowly falls apart, millions of others are thinking about it. But moving to another country is not something to be done lightly. The reality is that there are a vast array of social, cultural, economic and safety issues to be considered. If you have never traveled outside of North America, then you have no idea how incredibly different life in other parts of the world can be. For those that are unfamiliar with international travel, it can be quite a shock to suddenly be immersed in a foreign culture. In fact, no matter how experienced you are, choosing to relocate to a new country is never easy. But things have gone downhill so dramatically in the United States that picking up and moving to a foreign nation is being increasingly viewed as a viable alternative by millions of Americans. A lot of people have decided that they simply do not want to be in the United States when the excrement hits the fan. So what is the best country in the world for Americans to relocate to in order to avoid the coming economic collapse?

I've given that a good measure of thought. . . and I've concluded that too much of the world economies are tied to the US dollar on an overall basis, so it is my (hopefully correct) conclusion that in a number of "3rd world" economies the value of the dollar will remain constant relative to the rise or decline of a given countries monetary system. . . needless to say, in a few years I'll certainly find out!

    • If the US economy collapses every Country in the World will be affected. I've traveled to a lot of Country's, and some I really do like but there is no place like the USA. I'll load up and stay here.

    • My wife and I already have a 5 year plan to set ourselves up for a move out of this country. Every day I am sickened to see how bitter, divided, and dysfunctional our political party system and constituents have become. The amount of corruption is pretty much pushed this country to the point of no return where corporations and the 1% have are pretty much dismantling our democracy and everything that made this country great!

We have visited many countries over the last few years and have many future trips planned. It is amazing how far you money will go! Do your research, spend time visiting and exploring the country and give it a shot! We have been quite surprised how many people we meet up with that are doing the same thing!

    • Let's go live in China and take back America's manufacturing jobs, drive up the price of labor in China, force the jobs to move back to America, then move back to America to get the manufacturing jobs there.

    • Europe is far more expensive than the U.S. So, unless you have a needed skill/profession you're not even in the market to move to Europe. You couldn't afford it. They make America look cheap. If one was to relocate to an affordable country say Thailand (I've been there) you require far less money but one has to realize they are nothing like Americans. They are the friendliest people I've ever met but one has to realize there is crushing poverty almost everywhere you go except the tourist resorts. You wouldn't live in the tourist havens long-term. Most Americans could never live outside the U.S. because we have no frame of reference. We don't/are not able to travel widely. We are isolated and this leads to remoteness and fear.

This comment doesn't even address those who are too patriotic to even consider leaving.

    • From my research, chile.

It is the most stable Latin American country and geographically diverse, it has everything.

Also, there is a strong European presence in Santiago so not much culture shock.

I know lots of retirees go to central America because they can really stretch the dollar. There are several expat communities to join.

    • I know some Americans are moving to different countries, but "millions"?? There's quite a difference between "expressing interest" in moving to another country, and doing so. Most would be hesitant to leave their families, friends and familiar culture and surroundings to take a chance working in a foreign country.

Second, why do people think that things are going to be better economically somewhere else? If our new global economy has revealed anything it's that we're all in the same boat. Europe is on the verge of default and the barriers to working in China are substantial, (and that doesn't even include the language barrier). Additionally if the western economies collapse,China loses the two largest consumers of their products and won't be looking overseas for labor resources.

Why limit yourself to Europe? Canada is an option but if it's warmth in addition to a European ambience with a kick you're after, try the British V.I., French or Dutch W.I. They're far removed from turmoil, life is a hell'uv a lot simpler (and, in some cases cheaper) and if we behave ourselves and avoid trying to impose our biases on the native population, life can be good again.

    • The article doesn't say what is the best country to relocate to, but if I had the money and the means, I would. At least the article has a list of realities you have to think about before doing so...which I thought was excellent.

Leena - some of the best places we've seen so far are Belize, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Columbia. The people are amazingly friendly, the countries are highly diverse, and your dollars go a long way. We are heading to Peru in Feb. and looking at Thailand later in the year. There are just SOOOO many locations to land that you can pretty much customize your own destination. Obviously there are pros and cons to every place along with losing some things you've become accustomed to. However, you also gain many positive aspects you're not use to.

    • I doubt there is anywhere in the world safe from the clutches and stupidity of the incompetents who comprise the power elite of humanity. It's either take them out and rebuild or just wait for the stupidity to culminate in disaster.

    • James Lovelock (Gaian guru) recommends tropical islands with mountains because the tropics will be least affected by global warming besides sea level rise.
      Also Scandinavia and Siberia.
      Greenland is looking good too.
Me? I'm staying put right here in PA.

    • While I don't think the World economy is technically going to collapse, I don't see much of a future in the US anyways. My advice, any Latin American country since living expenses are relatively cheap and there are high demands for English speakers. So, if you know both English and Spanish, expect a lot of business opportunities.

    • Nick19:

Read "The Fourth Turning" we are certainly in a downward period (The Fourth Turning) but it's likely that the First Turning scheduled for mid-2020's will see a rebirth of the U.S. and others. I know this is a bit cryptic but if you have an interest in history, I highly recommend this book. It puts many events into perspective and doesn't allow the future to be so mysterious.
