As president, Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) says he would fight for a constitutional amendment to allow prayer in schools.
In an ad released last week, Perry declared that President Barack Obama was waging a “war on religion” because gays are allowed to serve openly in the military and children aren’t allowed to pray in schools.
“It was the Supreme Court, back in 1962, that decided — and it’s been upheld since then — that children couldn’t pray in school,” Fox News host Chris Wallace told Perry Sunday. “Barack Obama had nothing to do with that.”
“I would support a constitutional amendment that allows children to pray in school anytime that they would like,” Perry declared. “I happen to believe that ought be a local decision, and that’s not the Supreme Court’s business to be telling Americans when and how they should pray.”
“On the issue of don’t ask, don’t tell: It was working, and for the commander in chief to use our military as a political tool while we’re in combat in two different locations around the world — at least two different locations around the world in Iraq and Afghanistan — I just think it’s really irresponsible. … I think [the gay ban] is bad public policy and I would change it.”
Wallace noted that the ban on prayer in schools had continued under both Republican and Democratic Presidents.
“I’m telling you what I believe, Chris,” Perry replied. “Americans don’t agree with that decision that was made in 1962, and if we have a constitutional amendment election across this country allowing our children to pray in school, I will suggest to you it will pass overwhelmingly. And I’ll support that. I will go across this country, as I am promoting a balanced budget amendment to the United States Constitution, I will work on a balanced — or I should say an amendment to allow our children to pray in school.”

It's passing strange that someone who has no empathy for anyone use the Lord's name to resurrect this issue. A tip for Perry: You cannot worship God and have no compassion for the suffering of the people in your care.

Amen brother Rick! He already has my vote! I have been telling my kids they can pray if they want in school, just dont make a distration of it. They wont get in any trouble at home. However, I don't see what gays in the military has anything to do with prayer in school.

Well, if they allow one group to pray, they'd have to allow all groups to pray.
Meaning Perry would be responsible for allowing more muslims to pray at schools.
I swear, if he doesn't recognize that as political suicide, he must be on drugs.Freedom for all, not freedom for some!

So Perry wants to amend the constitution in order to allow unconstitutional behavior. Shouldn't he first have to pass a constitutional amendment that allows for unconstitutional amendments to become part of the constitution? Plus, is a constitution really all that constitutional when you start adding unconstitutional amendments to it? I don't think so. Instead I think we should adopt an unconstitution. That would give Perry something to unconstitutionally amend all he wants. He could even use crayons to do it. In fact, the unconstitution could be made in the form of a coloring book. Perry is a very angry man and I think he would benefit greatly from doing some coloring. They say it can be very calming for children under 10 years old or adults with an equivalent mentality. Plus it would give him something to do between thoughts. And that would keep him occupied while the adults in the room try to find solutions to the infinite number of actual problems we have in this country.
The Unconstitution: A document for those who pretend to love freedom and don't want to fake it anymore.

Hmmmm let's see what the 'constitution' thinks about that.
First sentence, First Amendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
So if Perry wants to ban the first amendment to make this new amendment (which I would thoroughly laugh my ass off at) then go right ahead and try to abolish the First Amendment, sir.

The air in Texas has definitely improved with the imbecile chasing his shadow all over the country proving to as many people as possible how stupid he is. In one way I wish the primary would last until his term expires, because I think he has finally lost his edge even with a lot of the bubba crowd here since he started his campaign.

Children already have the right to pray in school. What we do not want nor do we need is publicly led prayers.
Any person that would like to say a prayer can silently bow their head and pray all they want, any time they want. There is no need to bother others with this act.

When Rick Perry and others claim they want to "allow" prayer in schools, they really mean they want to mandate schools to hold time for prayer. Then these same people would require everyone speak english. Its the type of ultra-nationalism and zealotry that make for a dangerous mix. In the end, Rick Perry and his kind don't follow many of the teachings from the religions they are seeking to impose on the rest of us, as Colbert so eloquently puts it.

A Symbolic proposal for a Symbolic man. Symbolic of just how incredibly stupid and conflict based society has become. People are always itching for a new war to wage. Jesus tap-dancing christ people are we really this self-destructive?
War on religion, War on Drugs, War on Poverty, War on Christmas, War In Afghanistan, War on terror, War in Iraq, War WAR WAR.
War does two things:
1) It embroils the occupied continent with strife and suffering
2) Wastes resources destroying rather than building. Not only is war immoral, it's incredibly stupid. This is not debatable. People like Perry who stoke the fires should be shoved back into obscurity where they belong.
