Americans leaving US in record numbers

According to statistics from the US State Department, around 6.4 million Americans are either working or studying overseas, which Gallup says is the largest number ever for such statistic.
The polling organization came across the number after conducting surveys in 135 outside nations and the information behind the numbers reveal that this isn’t exactly a longtime coming either — numbers have skyrocketed only in recent years. In the 24 months before polling began, the number of Americans between the ages of 25 and 34 living abroad managed to surge from barely 1 percent to over 5.1 percent. For those under the age span wishing to move overseas, the percentage has jumped in the same amount of time from 15 percent to 40.
While the United States of America was at one point (and largely still is) a magnet for foreigners in search of work, the statistics makes it clear that an opposite trend is quickly picking up steam.
"There's a feeling among more entrepreneurial Americans that if you really want to get anything done, you have to get out of country and away from the depressing atmosphere," Bob Adams of America Wave tells Reuters. “There's a sense of lost direction, so more people are looking for locations that offer more hope about the future."
Many of those leaving the US have job skills that would transfer quite well in the American market. Instead, however, they chose to bring those out of the States, attracted instead to opportunities elsewhere.
While America offers some employment opportunities unmatched outside of the United States, the country has also seen dire economic statistics since the dawn of the Obama administration, with jobless benefit claims soaring in recent months, and only last week did the Department of Labor reveal an unemployment statistic below 9 percent. On the contrary, the number of Americans that want full-time work and have given up on finding it or unable to locate it is closer to double that figure, while at the same time many of America’s largest employers have outsourced positions across the globe. Banking giant Goldman Sachs announced earlier this year that in the wake of a recession, they would finally be creating 1,000 new positions, yet making them available only to workers in Singapore. Other industries, significantly American, have been relocated as well; the ending of NASA’s space shuttle program this year left many intelligent US citizens with little choice but to continue in their field outside of the States.
“We’ve pretty much outsourced everything else,” aerospace technician Giovanni Pinzon tells RT. He was left scrambling for a job after years working in America’s space program.
America Wave’s Adams adds to Reuters that the statistics prove surprising to him, but noted that it doesn’t exactly make sense to think that it is a fluke.
“They're looking for work because of the sluggish economy, and they've lost confidence that the U.S. is going anywhere,” says Adams.

That doesn't translate to "we hate America therefore we're leaving!" that just means we're experienced and multi-talented. I would love to do a study abroad in Japan or volunteer work abroad. We're a people who know the value of 'leaving'. Many cultures have a 'stay in one place' attitude. Lots of communities probably the majority of all on Earth will live in the 1 mile where they were born and never go overseas in their whole life. When I went to Egypt years ago it was because of the realization that I could someday be tied down pretty soon so this was my window to leave while I would and see places.
Did you know in China you can get a job just to PLAY A WHITE PERSON!?! I would LOVE that job. Stand in a business meeting and pretend to be an important white person. hahah That says to me that we have our hands all over the place and the rest of the world respects that drive.

I think some of these statistics are misleading. Yes, some upwardly mobile Americans are moving to other countries. Although, I'd like to know the actual number before they decided to pick this statistic out of thin air: "...around 6.4 million Americans are either working or studying overseas, which Gallup says is the largest number ever for such statistic." We've always had expats living in other countries either working or educating themselves. So, now there's more, so what?
Always be suspicious of stories that don't compare the numbers before they make some grand statement. What was the number abroad before this statistic is cited. Again, I know some are leaving and I don't blame them or you for leaving if there are opportunities but, come on, this makes it sound like everyone's about to leave.
Ain't gonna happen.

I agree, you have to look deeper to find the real truth. But as I said in my post earlier, my wife and I have already talked about leaving a few times. We're most concerned about our son being dragged into another made up war. He's 13, so we still have time, but if we need to renounce our citizenship to protect him, we will do just that. So again, you are right to be skeptical about the numbers, but I can count 3 people sitting on the fence right now.

good point dem46, Most of us are here for the duration. The people who are really suffering couldn't get a work visa, they are just not qualified to fill the type of jobs that there are openings for overseas, like tech teachers to teach people how to do jobs that used to be ours, although I know a few people with multiple degrees that are standing at the gates of corporations they used to work for with signs in their hands that read something like, "Will design satellites for food.", and I know some top rate computer programmers that couldn't get a break if they sacrificed a limb or two trying...
...None the less, you right about the fact that most of us are here for better or worse and are also right about comparing numbers before and during/after an event.

When all the jobs are outsourced, what other alternative are there? There has to be somewhere on the globe where a born American can find a job, although it might not be with an American company. They probably only pay slave wages overseas. isn't that why they left Americans high and dry in the first place, to give as little as possible and get back as much as possible from people who are trying to raise their standards above that of a third-world country? Of course, these American companies don't care if they are forcing Americans into a third-world existence. Maybe if America becomes a third-world country they will bring those jobs back here, when we are living in cardboard shacks and eating offal from garbage heaps.
But we keep on buying from them like fools...

My wife and I have actually talked about it. Not for us particularly, but for our son. The way they want to continue to wage war almost certainly guarantees a draft at some point and there is no way in Hell, I'm going to let my son fight in one. And yes, what that also implies, is that we would give up our citizenship.

Renouncing America was inconceivable to me just a few years ago. My sympathies always went out to those who felt a similar need to leave their homeland to come to our shores. I always felt a sense of pride that America was still that beacon of hope for so many around the world. Unfortunately, that beacon has now become that great "eye" in the LOTR series.

Consider that there are only enough jobs to employ one out of every four college graduates and you have to ask yourself what the devil is going on. The answer? Obviously nothing, especially in DC where they like the current financial climate just fine. Especially when you consider insider trading is legal if your a congressman.

Visiting other countries is not the same as living in other countries. I hear love for your home and that's great but is the love based on what you believe we have or what we actually have here at home? I want my free America back!
