Washington (CNN) -- The White House lifted a veto threat against a giant $662 billion defense authorization bill on Wednesday after legislators made changes in language involving detainees.

In particular, the legislators added language to make clear that nothing in the bill requiring military custody of al Qaeda suspects would interfere with the ability of civilian law enforcement to carry out terrorism investigations and interrogations in the United States.

A statement by White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said the changes mean that President Obama's advisers will not recommend a veto. The measure is expected to come up for votes in the House and Senate this week.

At issue was the president's authority in deciding whether people detained in terrorism investigations would be held in military or civilian custody.

Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said the legislation includes a "national security waiver" that allows the president to transfer a suspect from military to civilian custody if he chooses.

Presidential powers in the DOD bill the National Defense Authorization Act are just what President Obama needs when one really thinks about it… Sure the decision to drop detainee veto threat enrages Civil Liberties groups but what do these pussy Liberals and Independents know about the President’s strategy.
This is chess not checkers. Obama/Biden are going to USE that power to go after the domestic threat know as the “Conservative Labyrinth” (John S. Saloma III) Economic terrorists and corrupt business persons have been a much bigger threat to the USA than an Middle Eastern fanatic. YOUR reward for voting Obama/Biden in 2012 will be to see Dick Cheney, Eric Prince, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Hank Paulson, the Koch Bros, etc… in crowded holding cells wearing chains. Indefinitely!
If you don’t vote for Obama/Biden and the Republicans win back the White House and Congress? …well then you’re f***ed!
I don’t know why President Obama is putting his life on the line for a bunch of ungrateful Liberals and Independents. You imbeciles really let the President down in 2010. Just look at what you voters allowed to happen to the House… Cowards!
