Highly Toxic Mercury Present in Processed Foods, Yet FDA Does Nothing

Specifically, the mercury content was found to be contained in high-fructose corn syrup, which also reportedly contains genetically modified ingredients.
Instead of addressing this major public health concern, the FDA is focusing their time on crushing beneficial supplements through ridiculous NDI regulations that threaten the entire infrastructure of the nutraceuticals industry.
Researchers from two U.S. studies reported that about half of tested samples of high-fructose corn syrup contained mercury. Mercury was also found in nearly a third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products which listed high-fructose corn syrup as the first-or-second-highest labeled ingredient.
Following the report, organizations like the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy called on the FDA for immediate action:
'Mercury is toxic in all its forms. Given how much high-fructose corn syrup is consumed by children, it could be a significant additional source of mercury never before considered. We are calling for immediate changes by industry and the [U.S. Food and Drug Administration] to help stop this avoidable mercury contamination of the food supply,”'the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy’s Dr. David Wallinga, a co-author of both studies, said in a prepared statement.
Americans Consumed Over 37 Pounds of Mercury-Laden HFCS in 2008
Mercury is toxic in any dosage, but the information becomes even more alarming when you consider the fact that the average American consumed 37.8 pounds of high-fructose corn syrup in 2008! If this is not explosive enough on its own, remember the fact that this is but one source of mercury exposure. CFL light bulbs, mercury-contaminated seafood, and some dental fillings are a few sources of mercury exposure that affect millions of individuals.
The ubiquitous nature of high-fructose corn syrup in processed food products makes it difficult to avoid if you are on a junk food diet that is devoid of essential nutrients. Unfortunately, a large number of people worldwide subscribe to this nutritional program while in the dark regarding the true effects that such a diet can have on the human body. Until the FDA decides to step in (which simply will not happen unless activists make enough noise), protecting yourself and your family against HFCS is your priority. If you eat 100% organic food items, or grow your own organic food, you will not have to worry about toxic high-fructose corn syrup.
It’s time to tell the FDA to focus on the real issues, like toxic elements in our food supply — not health-promoting supplements that have improved lives and boosted immune systems.

when people say If Ron Paul were elected the country would go to shit because he would eliminate these government agencies this is the shit they need to consider. FDA is owned by special interest just like the EPA (why do companies that spill oil never have to pay up?) in this case the corn lobby. They don't give a fuck about us or our children. They care about a kick back and a cushy job in the private sector after retirement.

The FDA is like Congress, not our representatives, but the errand peep of the corporate right, deserving of mass extinction.

The revolving door between Washington and corporations has wiped out any meaningful use of most protective agencies. Sometimes one wonders if their plan is to make you sick so they can reap the profits from your illness and death.
These corporations must be stopped at any cost. - 5 months ago

HFCS is one of the worst toxic frauds foisted on consumers.Water wells polluted with atrazine herbicide cause cancer and birth defects. The common grass herbicide used , add the high use of nitrogen to grow the corn, now a special GMO strain for ethanol. More corn is used to make this toxic sweetener ,and ethanol than is used for feed,or food.
The corn growers lobby is strong in Washington overriding the FDA,and EPA,all so they can promote this toxic sweetener.

Occupy HFCS,and it's lobbyists.

About a year ago I did a bit of research on mercury in high fructose corn syrup. Seems there are certain filters used in the process that needed small amounts of mercury in order to make the syrup. Well, a lot of that mercury ended up in the syrup.
Someone finally figured a better way to make the crap, and now, no more filters requiring mercury. Mercury has been pulled from the equation. At least from all but one of the processing plants, of which there are now only five.
Of course that was a year ago. I would imagine there is syrup that is in our food that still has plenty of mercury in it.
Bottom line, don't drink or eat anything with that crap in it. Mercury or no, it's bad for you. - 5 months ago

The FDA and the USDA are the most salient case examples underlying Alexis de Tocqueville's observations many years ago that private associations are better for solving America's problems than government bureaucracies.
"Wherever at the head of some new undertaking you see the government in France, or a man of rank in England, in the United States you will be sure to find an association."
"I have often admired the extreme skill with which the inhabitants of the United States succeed in proposing a common object for the exertions of a great many men and in inducing them voluntarily to pursue it."
Today many people don't even know that the the Better Business Bureau isn't a government agency.
How did we get here? Many associations have atrophied with a corresponding bureaucratic takeover of the 1930's and so called "scientific approach" to managing the citizens that was used as justification for bureaucratic growth.
But we still have some noteworthy associations:
Consumer reports- (rates products)
American Automobile Association (AAA)
Organic Consumers Association
We can get safe food and medicine with a meaningful seal of safety by forming an appropriate association.

FDA is bought and sold by the entities it regulates. In reality it gives you the illusion of safety and a false sense of security so you buy food products from the entities. Absent real money the market is based trust. American people have been trained to blindly trust the FDA's stamp of approval. They are satisfied because they believe the FDA's stamp of approval means they're safe even if they see with their own eyes feces in their food. The Food producers, Big agriculture, and big pharma are happy because people blindly consume their product.
Thankfully articles like this are exposing the FDA and what's really in our food supply. I knew high-fructose corn syrup was horrible for your health but I didn't know it contained Mercury. Definitely going to make an effort to secure a clean food supply.
