The Tea Party got so many candidates elected in '10 is the same reason for the republican revolution of '94: people are wary of the way things are going. If Paul gets in, that would signal such a shift in attitude by electing such an 'unorthodox' (common sense is now called unorthodox) President, that would leave one to assume they want a change-a REAL change.
If Paul doesn't get what he was elected to do done, he could quite easily blame the congress, and he would be right. The one thing we know about politicians is they'll do anything to keep their jobs. If they don't play ball with Paul, it would be quite possible come November '14 that would be a whole new batch of Representatives in the House.

Unless he rescinds all of his anti-government bullshit, from his stance on the 14th amendment to his stance on the gold standard, he is unelectable in my eyes.
It's more important to establish the (3 or 4 good) values he fights so strongly for than it is to elect him specifically.
Even if he did get elected, it would be meaningless given the state of congress.

Im getting close to registering republican just to vote for his ass. still dont think Id vote for him in the general. If I have to throw away my vote it will be for the some third party canidate. i sure as hell aint gona waste it on a democratic party that does not give a shit about what I think is important any more than I would vote for a republican who does not give a shit either.

The Iowa Caucus is already as irrelevant as the Amish. Taking a chance on Ron Paul is like taking a chance on an inert gas. Even if he should accidenlty succeed to the WH (he could not possibly be elected, somebody would have to die), it wouldn't matter. He could not constitutionally accomplish any of his government demolition; and his own philosophy wouldn't allow him to engage in any activity the rest of us call governance. He is the poster boy hobgoblin of small minded consistency.

NO thanks. I treasure clean air and water and shouldn't have to wait until my body is wracked with cancer to sue the responsible party only to die in the process or be dragged through litigation with the respsonsible party using their $$$$$ and influence to "settle" to avoid accountability. His environmental policies alone especially regarding climate change are irresponsible and immoral. And anyway, why are people obsessing over Ron Paul when the nominee has already been picked? Bush's daddy already annointed Romney, and that is it unless they pick him to broker the convention to bring us someone "new." And frankly, I'm already way tired of the political sell here and everywhere. Keep pushing them all in our faces 24/7 and people won't come out at all.

You would rather have the EPA allow BP to spill in the gulf and not be held financially responsible for the full amount? You would rather have the FDA approve food that has higher than acceptable levels of toxins in order to mitigate losses for companies like BP? This is the system we have created. The regulatory agencies don't help people, they help corporations. Open your eyes. Insanity is attempting to do the same thing and expecting a different result.

In a free market capitalist society, we wouldn't need regulatory agencies because the free market would reward the companies that made good choices.
Right now, the government keep BP in business by continually approving them for drilling.

I feel your pain, Cenk. That's why I am running for President. We are all disgusted with the administrations seeming inability to stand up to the Republicans but Ron Paul is not the answer. Sure his positions against the FED and the corruption in Washington make him a worthy candidate but he is the unprogressive. What you are torn by is your former Republican self which is crying out for common sense and spending restraint. Ending Medicare, Education, unemployment, welfare, and housing for the poor is not the answer to our problems, that is the nuclear option. Whereas, our government is corrupted and in the hands of the corporatists, the people are still eating.
Ron Paul would devastate the economy by cutting spending in the middle of a recession. That leads to depression and once entered, there is no guarantee when we will come out. Think Kansas in the 30s and imagine what the people will do as they scrounge for meager supplies of food. If we had a government soup kitchen arranged and we were going to stop all foreclosures and just reset the clock then maybe there would be some value to a hardstop but that is not what he will do. He is an old man in his twilight, he cares nothing for the average person, only the nation. Under Ron Paul the corporations will cease even more power without any regulations and wages will drop like a rock.
It is a dark vision and the Sadducees and Pharisees are terrified of this new Jesus. Yes, we are all sinners but that doesn't mean there is only one way. You have the Wolf-Pac and we have OWS. Patience is what we need this year. The Republicans are feasting upon each other and President Obama does not offer the people anything. There is plenty of time to turn the tables because any candidate offering something is better than any of the candidates offered.
Join us at Americans Elect and help lead progressives to the promised land.

Why not? Everything is so corrupt what could it hurt?
All the establishment hates him, that right there speaks volumes about his worthiness.
I say we vote him in, let him get rid of all these corrupt governmental agencies, see what he has to offer.
Worst case scenario he has to piece certain things back together, at the will of the American people, and hopefully without all the ingrained corruption, waste, etc, etc....
Still the vast majority of things he wants to eliminate are riddled with corruption, and even he knows he couldn't just completely throw certain things out the window. Social Security will be around for a while in some capacity regardless, to many people have paid way to much into it.
But you have the; FDA, EPA, Department of Education (and don't hand me the Matt Damon video of him going off on a "libertarian" about all teachers being in it because they "love to teach", that's just bullshit and we know it. I literally had teachers coming in hung-over half beat up from the night before sleeping through 1st. & 2nd. periods themselves.)....
Just saying it is all FUCT!!! Just about every last bit of it, and since so many people are content to go on with some variation of this warped system, why not throw in the guy that makes the establishment shit itself.
If he's that bad, fuck it, at least your tax dollars won't be going to bomb babies in foreign countries, and locking up non violent weed heads, so your stupid, only slightly more sober neighbors have a job in the prison industrial complex.....

What could it hurt. You're obviously a guy who has never experienced or even read about a real depression coupled with a weak government.

You're obviously a guy who never heard of the crash of 1920. The only action Harding did was to extend the tax base. Not RAISE taxes, rather, extend the base by implementing a tariff on imported goods. Other than that he left it alone and the subsequent depression lasted 18 months.
Compare that to 1929 when Hoover introduced massive spending the likes the country had never seen before. This was essentially adding fuel to the fire, as opposed to Harding who believed (correctly) that the market would correct itself and burn out. Following Hoover Roosevelt comes in and adds even MORE fuel by massive spending that dwarfed what Hoover did, even though there were many beneficial by-products of that spending-dams, bridges, roads, all sorts of infrastructure were built.
I'm not saying those things wren't needed, I'm just questioning the positive aspects of government involvement in the market.

I'm going to stipulate that you believe your alternative history and I believe mine. What I've never understood is WHY you want history to read this way instead of the way most other people see it. What I suspect is that your people are really pissed off that Franklin Roosevelt in the eyes of most of the people in the world took bold action that saved the American economy; took bold action that saved the world from Fascism; and his political legacy put the Republicans on the sidelines for two decades. And what really galls you was that he was a traitor to the one percent. Now take your guy. I'm not going to be too hard on Hoover. He was a very decent man. He was just not suited to handle a Great Depression.

Actually the crash of 1920 really happened. As for history I'm not really sure what you're talking about. World War 2 is the accepted event that brought an end to the Great Depression. What bold action are you talking about-the massive spending by the Federal Government that forced the Fed to print even more money (with interest added to the national debt), which then in turn weakened the dollar even further.
As I illustrated in the '20 crash Harding did virtually nothing, allowing the market to correct itself as a market will do. I think we subscribe to two different ideologies, which is perfectly fine-I follow the Austrian School while it appears you're a fan of Paul Krugman and Keynes.
It could be argued by following the course of action that Harding took, perhaps the Depression wouldn't have lasted as long or have been as severe as it was. Yes, what I'm suggesting is that massive spending, which in turn called for millions of dollars to be printed, actually caused the Depression to become more severe because of the weaker dollar. As I said, there were benefits such as the TVA and various public works programs that added infrastructure that we still use today. As for 'being a traitor to the 1%', sure he raised taxes on the rich, he also allowed IBM and the Ford company to work with Nazis, even after The US entered the war,
As for 'bold action that saved the world of fascism,', again, I'm a bit confused. Do you mean the repeated neutrality violations (lend lease comes to mind)? Or do you mean HITLER'S bold action of declaring war on us? Or the bold action of imprisoning American citizens because of their race?
Once WE were attacked, yes Roosevelt was a fine Commander in Chief, but's lets not have any illusions HE ended the Depression or did any of the other things you suggested directly.
Actually my guy was JFK: Hated the fed, warned us of secret societies, showed absolute strength with Cuba, and believed in lower taxes. JFK today would be a right wing wa-hoo according to the daily kos.

I excerpted the following quote from your reply.
"I think we subscribe to two different ideologies, which is perfectly fine-I follow the Austrian School while it appears you're a fan of Paul Krugman and Keynes. It could be argued by following the course of action that Harding took, perhaps the Depression wouldn't have lasted as long or have been as severe as it was."
Am I correct in saying that in order to keep the world view you have adopted (perhaps via Ron Paul).consistent with the Austrian Theory" you have to believe that Franklin Roosevelt's economic policy was wrong and disastrous; while everybody else credits him with saving the American economy (at least for the millions of unemployed) and saving the Western World from Fascism. In your view he just lucked out and blundered into World War II; barely scraped by and therefore the Paulian narrative is intact. You are not a Holocaust denier. But in my view you use similar argumentation techniques.
