    • IMO, an evolved people will thrive in any system, from anarchy to a monarchy.

Capitalism and communism fail because we cannot implement either correctly.

It is not so much that we can not implement either correctly so much as it is ideological systems require a society populated with ideal people. Since no such population exists, at least not on any national level, neither one of those systems will work.

My opinion is that it is time we stop being so myopic about these systems. We should realize that many differing systems have many fine points and many negatives. Perhaps it's time we admitted as much and took the best that they all have to offer and chuck the rest. Only ignorant people think in absolute terms, which is of course why we have what we have.

    • The only problem I have with this post is that the system that was in place in the Soviet Union was NOT communism and the system in place in the United States is NOT capitalism. Both systems are in practice the same thing, no matter what name you wish to put on them.

I agree! There has (to my knowledge) never been a true communism anywhere. The so-called communism current are just dictatorships of various flavors. And america's laissez-faire-style-capitalism is a abomination. I hope for the sanity of a good social-democracy! Contrary to the wrong-wingers they seem to be the best answer in the world today. Best outcome for people and the world.

Hmmm.... I don't know... I live in PA. and have some knowledge of the amish I can't hold them up as a good example. There's way too much hypocrisy in that community, though I do admire some of their ways in theory, the actual practice falls short. The major sexism, and way children are often treated for example. The theory of the non-materialist lifestyle falls short of the often very greedy materialism in actual practice.

Besides the two samples below there is also the first few years of what now calls itself christianity. Back then every thing was held in common within the community. Then Saul of Tarsus got into it and it went litteraly to hell.

    • if we were to have a debate today....

Which will be our proud accomplishments?

      Few unjustified wars
      Failing schools
      corporations controlling our government
Media own by only few people
the changes in our constitution to strip us of our rights
      injustices and discrimination
      the destruction of our environment

and the list goes on and on.....
