"Next fall, thousands of students on college campuses will attempt to register to vote and be turned away. Sorry, they will hear, you have an out-of-state driver’s license. Sorry, your college ID is not valid here. Sorry, we found out that you paid out-of-state tuition, so even though you do have a state driver’s license, you still can’t vote.

Political leaders should be encouraging young adults to participate in civic life, but many Republican state lawmakers are doing everything they can instead to prevent students from voting in the 2012 presidential election. Some have openly acknowledged doing so because students tend to be liberal.

Seven states have already passed strict laws requiring a government-issued ID (like a driver’s license or a passport) to vote, which many students don’t have, and 27 others are considering such measures. Many of those laws have been interpreted as prohibiting out-of-state driver’s licenses from being used for voting."

    • A call to America's Youth, we need you. Look into the rules, regulations and laws now so you can do what you need to do and get registered. Then make sure you go out and vote.

One single vote rarely ever makes a difference. The power comes in numbers and the youth vote can negate the votes from the older Americans that are more likely to vote against our freedoms.

    • It is sadly part of the new restrictive WI voter caging laws. The effort to keep as many people from casting their vote is not a democratic system. But it is the only way the GOP hopes to win in 2012 after the last 2 years of do-nothing leadership to turn this country around...by design.

    • I don't even exist! Someone deleted me off the system and the staff refused to help me get back on. Not that I give a rats arse until we have an independent member in our electorate.

Though I liked some of the Labor policies, I'm bloody fuming how indigenous people continue to be treated and the scant regard for their heritage and ancestral lands. Even foreign mining companies treat indigenous communities with more respect than our government does.

Some good has been done, but all too often it is only because of stories in the media that embarrass the government. People should act out of the decency in their hearts, not to head off political damage or garner support from ignorant low life racist segments of society. Language and culture are the threads that weave human society together and contain invaluable knowledge and wisdom learned over many thousands of years. Without diversity we are all doomed like the many failed societies before us. Evidence of failure to look after supporting ecosystems and stand against tyranny is a repeated narrative throughout history.
