By David EdwardsWednesday, December 28, 2011
One Fox News analyst says that he may one day nostalgically look back on the Occupy protest movement, comparing them to hobos, tramps, bums and yippies.
On Tuesday, activists declared their intention to ‘Occupy the Caucus’ in Iowa by protesting at the campaign offices of Democratic President Barack Obama and most of the Republican contenders.
“The circus has come to town,” Fox News analyst Peter Johnson Jr. told Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy on Wednesday. “Perhaps this is cultural occasion in America. We’ve had hobos, we’ve had tramps, we’ve had bums, we’ve had hippies, we’ve had yippies. Perhaps we’ll look back on this in a nostalgic way and say, ‘Isn’t this wonderful. All these misguided people with nothing to do in January, they showed up in Iowa, they didn’t make a difference, they got a lot of attention. It was wonderful.’”
“You know they’ve sworn, they took a pledge — just like the hobo pledge at the end of the 19th century — that they’re not going to do drugs, they’re not going to do alcohol and they’re not going to carry weapons. So that is a very important step forward for the Occupy movement and we should be very grateful,” he added.
Johnson suggested that the “heckling class” of protesters would be better served by returning to New York and organizing a parade for the soldiers coming home from Iraq.
“Frankly, I’d rather not talk about them any more after this,” he concluded. “Let’s have a parade, not a circus.”

You guys are hilarious! The "99%" are a bunch of lazy, whiney good for nothing wastrails. What they are pissed off about is the fact that they spent a lot of money on a worthless degree and they are pissed because they can't make a $100K a year with their BA in 17th century german poetry. They need to quit sniviling, quit shitting on the sidewalks, take a shower and go to trade school. Most if not all illegal aliens would trade places with any one of them in a new york minute? school debt and all.
These A-HOLES aren't "We the People". We the people stand on our own, we make our own way in the world and we don't walk around with our hands out expectiong a politician to give us someone else's money. "Financially disadvantaged" my ass. Lazy, pampered and stupid is closer to the truth. - 1 year ago

The PROCLAIM that they represent the "99%," but of course they do not.
It is most irksome when they attack the brave police. But also when they destroy property. And also when they demand shelter and food while protesting. And their occupation of private property is to be condemned, of course. The rapes and muggings are deplorable, along with the trashing of parks.

if you think one can get a degree in something as specific as 17th century poetry then you probably
a. never walked into a university
b. have walked into a university but went to the stadium
c. none of the above
d. have mixed feeling but currently waiting for the test resultsmy friend they say when we speak we bear the mark of our class or something like that... I speak more than 1 language some speak more, i play piano, some can play more, some cant do either but none of this important what is key is that we are demonstrating equality because we all poses the capacity to learn what the other knows. Denying that is the basis for every revolution or even counter revolution, the 99 percent are you and if they/we are clever then we will join you as an equal to stand with as comrades.. to the future, friend!

The disinherited, disenfranchised, dispossessed We the People can
never be hobos, tramps, bums. Why ? Because hobos, tramps, bums
are only 3 synonyms labeling the financialy disadvantaged. If it takes
fucks nudes 3 different words to say the same thing, it's propaganda.
We all know by now our civilization is on it's decline so severely it'll
self destruct like all other world civilizations unless we take radical
measures to restore the extremist imbalances caused by Banksterism.
Those people out on the cold aren't there to sing Yuletide carols. It's
because of crooked Banks' mortgage frauds, forclosures due to the
joblessness caused by the Corporate globalist elite exporting American
jobs to Chinese sweatshops, inability of the Federal Government to
make bold initiatives as FDR did with the Civilian Conservation Corps,
the Work Projects Administration, et al jobs programs. They did a lot
of good things in Colorado, Nevada, et al States. My dad worked
for the CCC during the Great Depression. It helped keep my family
alive. The people of the 1st Grreat Depression weren't bums, hobos,
tramps. They were the ones who didn't jump off builkdings as suicides.
Didn't freeze to death of homelessness sleeping in alleys. Didn't
starve to death. The OWS Occupiers are far better off going without
baths & showers than being dead. The acid mantle of their skin will
protect them from the influenza virus without innoculations they can't
afford. They were forced out in the cold by the cold bloodedness of
others making money their God, and defrauding others obsessively.
Those who watch TV expecting to fund truth have a screw loose.
Those who watch that corrupt, bottom feeding carp Murdoch's TV

The government DID take measures, and THAT is the reason we are in this mess. Look up the "Community Restoration Act": The GOVERNMENT pressured banks to give loans to people who should not have gotten them, all because some bleeding hearts whined about "racism" in loans, which was absolutely not true, of course.
Then, the people who took out loans they could not afford deserved what they got; they should have realized they could not pay them back, but most were irresponsible and inane.
FDR's policies PROLONGED the Depression; recent estimate are that because of his policies, it lasted 7 years longer.
The TVA, for example, resulted in more economic loss and unemployment. Do you want the data?

Exactly. Many people will attempt to debate some fine points of differences between Socialists and Nazis, and people with Socialist proclivities will adamantly deny any collary with Nazism, of course.
The Nazis were indeniably anti-capitalist. More than pro-socialist, they were ANTI-capitalist. They USED the bankers and financiers and industrialists to build their state. And these OWS people are primarily anti-capitalist.
But what the Nazis and Socialsts have in common is STATISM. Both want a central authority to control and manage the economy and the lives of the citizens. The root and the trunk of the tree is STATISM, and the branches are Nazism, Socialism, Communism, etc.
This is how our great Founding tradition differs, and in two major respects:
1. The INDIVIDUAL, not the state, is of primary importance. The Left today in America emphasizes the collective.
2. Decentralization. The Left wants to centralize in the federal government - look at ObamaCare - while true patriots who want liberty emphasize DECENTRALIZATION.

Your characterization of the movement is false, and one-sided, what these people are fighting for also effects (Helps) you. You are not the 1% or you would not be here, the 1% is planning the next scam, FOOL News is reporting this to stoke up Fear in those that follow them. To lie-down and spill blood for the rich in hopes to one day be rich is dim-witted yet predictable. The rich work on a scale of manipulation that is time tested and very effective. Finally the people have rallied on a common issue and the rich are combating them with time tested, separatism and Fear. For you to spew FOOL News talking points further reinforces their tactics.
People are born into the 1% they inherit wealth and live their lives entirely to increase their wealth and reduce wealth of those struggling to make it. This is who you choose to defend? Have you Ever seen the movie, Land of the Dead, normally I would not use a movie but the visual may help you see clearly. There is a character, working for the 1% with hopes of one day joining the 1%, as it turns out the 1% have no intentions of ever letting him (you) into the club. Are you getting the Point?

There are many flaws in your post. First of all, many, if not most, of the super-wealthy were not born into their wealth; they created it. Take Gates, for example. He was born into an upper-middle class family, but he created his wealth and worked hard for it.
Next, the succeeding generations are notorious for NOT maintain the wealth and frittering it away.
Next: Look at Fortune magazine, the top 400 companies. Compare any 10 year listing; you will see that over 70% - on average - are not longer there or have dramatically changed their standing. In other words, wealth comes and goes, and new people enter and older ones vanish.
What you are doing - probably unintended by you - shows you have been well inculcated with a certain type of insidious propaganda by the anti-capitalists: The goal is to convince people that the so-called "wealthy" did not really EARN their wealth; in other words, it is UNDESERVED. This sets the stage for its confiscation.
And a person CAN get in this mythical "club," of course. It is not a closed door.

This is great for the record I did think of bill Gates, however I didn’t mention his because I’m not trying to demonize anyone, He being hardly middle class. The lower-upper were those that did not come from traditionally wealthy families, However plenty people get lucky with money see the NBA, NFL and NBL also see lottery winners, http://www.smartmoney.com/invest/stocks/why-lottery-winners-go-bankrupt-13010021... .
So easy come easy go right? Wrong. “In contrast to the nouveau riche, the upper-upper class was families viewed as "quasi-aristocratic" and "high-society".[4] These had been rich for generations. They lived off idle inheritances rather than earned wealth. During the early 20th century, the upper-upper classes were seen as more prestigious.”
Some families with "old money" include:
• The Rockefeller family: While founder John D. Rockefeller had modest origins and was initially considered "new money", he made billions of dollars in oil in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Over time, the Rockefellers became considered "old money" as their wealth was passed down from generation to generation and their lineage still remains wealthy.
• The Du Pont family fortune began in 1803, but they became an extraordinarily wealthy family by selling gunpowder during the American Civil War. By World War I, the DuPont family produced virtually all American gunpowder. In 1968, Ferdinand Lundberg declared the Du Pont fortune to be America's largest family fortune.[5] As of 2008 E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company ranked 81st on the Fortune 500 list of the largest U.S. corporations.[6]
• The Vanderbilt family made their fortune in the railroad industry and other investments. They have been a prominent wealthy family in the United States for 200 years.
• The Astor family made their fortune in the 19th century, through real estate, the hotel industry and other investments.
“Although many "old money" individuals do not rank as high on the list of Forbes Top 400 richest Americans as they once did, their wealth continues to grow. Many families increased their holdings by investment strategies such as the pooling of resources [7] For example; the Rockefeller families estimated net worth of $1 billion in the 1930s grew to $8.5 billion by 2000. In 60 years, four of the richest families in the United States increased their combined $2–$4 billion in 1937 to $38 billion without holding large shares in emerging industries.[8][9]”
Now shall we get closer to the point, these people funding Wars and take over’s of small under developed countries, they back Wars on both sides?
“Economists assert that the largest transfer of income will be as the older generation leaves wealth to the baby boomers. Inheritance has been estimated to make up 6% of the US GDP each year.[11] The current generation is wealthier than any generation before. This increase in wealth and inheritance indicates a rise of "old money" in American families. Stephen Haseler argues that America is becoming an inheritance culture in which much economic opportunity is from family inheritance and not personal achievement.[12]”

Do it on your own instead of parroting Rachel Madcow.
First, go to the Forbes 400.
Then, look up their backgrounds. Turn off the TV.
#1. Gates. His father went to college on the GI Bill.
#2. Buffet. Son of man who did well and became a Congressman. But hardly "old money." His father attended public schools and the state university of Nebraska. His grandfather just owned a small grocery store.
#3. Larry Ellison. Born to an unwed mother and adopted where he lived in a two-bedroom apartment
#4 & 5. Koches. Grandparents were immigrants. Grandpa was an apprentice printer.
#6. Walton. Sam Walton, founder of same, grew up on a farm. Struggled in the Great Depression.

You are simply parroting talking points. You claim that there is some "invisible empire" pulling all of the strings, and one of your "proofs" is that the wealthy inherit their money and this supposed "old money" is running the country, and also that the door is close to everyone else.
I asserted this simply is not true and went to a reliable source: The Forbes 400. I went down the list, showing you have the top 6 wealthies in the nation did not - repeat, NOT - come from old money at all. I deliberately left out #7: George Soros!
You keep on insisting I watch FOX News and such, but I have "news" for you: I do not get American TV in my home!
The truth is that I do think for myself, and it is VERY clear that you and your cohorts have really been taken in. The proof is around you, with the American people of all kinds of backgrounds achieving and succeeding. One way that PROVES that you have been taken in is the erroneous belief you people have that this is permanent and has been going on for a couple of decades: First of all, around 6 or 7 years ago, people were not screaming and yelling these things. Next, if you only look at history, you can see that this is a ruse and politicans have been using it to dupe you for over a century - There was a much larger "disparity" of income and "concentration" of wealth a century ago when the masses were being lifted from poverty and we grew to be the wealthiest nation in the world.
It is pure propaganda that you have taken in.

Okay, let me begin by saying...You DO know that you're on CURRENT.COM??I've been reading your comments all over the place and... I dont get it, are you just trolling, are you trying to convert us "hippies" to your more conservative views, or are you simly unaware that there are better sites than this one for people with your viewpoints to post their opinions on? I'm pretty sure FOXnews has a website...just sayin'

Your response is quite understandable. It appears that I am "trolling," but I am not. What I am looking for is some coherent and cogent responses to another point of view. But all I seem to get is ranting about compassion and how the evil corporations are ruling our lives. One poster, for example, declaimed that the rich simply inherited their money. Well, I posted the backgrounds of the top 6 wealthiest people in America and debunked that claim. These attacks on "rich capitalists" have been in vogue for over a century. The fact is that there is no data showing that a so-called "concentration of wealth" leads to an impoverishment of the rest of us. In fact, if one looks at history, there was a time that had a greater "concentration" and disparity of income and was a period of some of the most rapid increase in the standard of living in the history of the world.

Fox news gasbags are like the energy pills in PacMan. Whenever Occupy Protesters grow weary, they only have to turn on Fox news and they will remember what they are fighting for and be reinvigorated to spread the truth.

These illogical signs are a "true sign of the times" . Anecdotal, I have drinks at a bar that plays Fox news. Its patrons are mostly senior citizens--on Medicare and Social Security--mostly educated on the GI Bill. They constantly complain about the government. According to them Obama is ruining this country. They seem to be in a stupor; mesmerized by the constant drumbeat of soft porn and propaganda that is Fox news. Unlike the predictions of Fox news that historians will denigrate and harshly judge the Occupiers; I believe they will be fascinated by these listless stupor viewers that were turned into self destructive zombies by Fox news.

The Occupiers would resort to Fascism if it were not for the brave police. An example is when they decided to storm a building and get a "rich evil guy" and actually hold a TRIAL for him.
That clearly shows what they are capable of.

The "Occupiers" were ready to have a summary trial of someone because he was - by their argot - one of the "evil rich" and deemed a potential criminal to be tried, by virtue of the fact that he was wealthy.
Maybe not "fascism." More akin to Nazism.....

No, in this case it was a corollary because the Nazis classified certain groups as the "enemy of the people" and held their bogus trials, just like the OWS intended. Oh perhaps it was more "Stalinesque?" You know, the "Show Trials."

“Frankly, I’d rather not talk about them any more after this,” he concluded. “Let’s have a parade, not a circus.”
I thought we already had a circus: The re_Pig debates, a panel of clowns pretending to have answers. I like the idea of a parade too. A long line of people with signs reading LIARS parading 24 X 7 in front of Faux in NYC.

I am a hobo, tramp, beggar, and yippie. You will know me when you see me, if you ever grow the gonads you need to walk to your car without a body guard. I will be clean, fairly well dressed, unassuming to you, and the last thing you will see for the rest of the day is your face impacting my fist. Occupy FOX.
