Raw Story’s Mike Rogers: Ron Paul hiding an extremist agenda

Friday, December 30, 2011

Raw Story’s managing director Mike Rogers was a guest on Thursday’s The Ed Show, discussing Ron Paul and the real ramifications of the candidate’s views on “states’ rights,” civil rights, and the rights of LGBT people under a potential Paul administration.

Related: Paul once criticized equal pay, AIDS patients, sexual harassment victims

The Paul campaign prominently featured the endorsement of Rev. Phillip G. Kayser, a Christian pastor who believes that gays should be executed in accordance with “Biblical law.” Kayser is a Paul supporter, saying that he believes that Rep. Paul’s policies are consistent with a Biblical world view. As Kayser’s more controversial statements have come to light, the Paul 2012 website scrubbed any mention of the pastor.

Rogers pointed out that Congressman Paul has left a trail of contradictory statements on the rights of gays and minorities and indicates that this may be part of a pattern of disinformation and obfuscation. He added that Paul may even be using the guise of so-called “libertarianism” as a springboard toward the goal of rolling back all civil rights legislation, effectively stripping away the hard-won rights of any U.S. citizens who are not part of the white, heterosexual mainstream.

Rep. Paul has said before that he would not have voted for the Civil Rights Act of 1964, a view that is shared by his son, Sen. Rand Paul (R-TN), who claimed that the Civil Rights Act was an intrusion on the rights of businesses owners, who he feels should be able to determine for themselves who they will and will not serve.

These views led the Southern Poverty Law Center to dub Rand Paul an “extremist,” over a view his father has actively promoted.

    • I'll make it simple for everyone here.

"States Rights" was, is and always will be code for legalized discrimination against whoever the user wants to discriminate against.

    • People, try to understand, this guy is for freedom, against corruption, and he cannot be bought. These are some of the reasons he has almost no political support. Even the teaparty isn't 100% on his side. You have to look at the big picture. Get rid of wastful spending doesn't mean your on your own, it means there is more money to spend on real shit. Look how well Switzerland has done with started rights. This could be the man to head us in the right direction. Call me a Paulbot if you want, I don't care what you think. Ron could be our only hope.

No, you try to understand - Paul is a racist, homophobic, antisemitic, bible thumping douche bag. Those who support Paul are either white supremacists, or feeble minded imbeciles being duped by white supremacists.

While :Paulbot" is nice, I also like "Paultard." "Paulinista" also works well. However, no matter how you say it, anyone supporting Paul is bat shit crazy.

While I disagree with you, unimatrix, I also understand you are probably a liberal who wants nothing but the best for our country and our people. But what is going on now is not in our best interest. We need a regime change and better foriegn policy. I would've agreed with you a year ago, but not anymore. This "he's a racist" thing is b.s. and there is nothing out there to prove it true.

Your denial of the facts surrounding the years of racist newsletters published under Paul's name makes everything else you claim suspect. Even Paul admits the racist newsletters are real. He just wants us to believe he never read or approved them, which is, of course, ludicrous

Well, if he is a white supremesist, as you say, then why is everyone talking about how he treated minorities for free? There are plenty of accounts if his selfless acts of kindness for poor people. Racist? It just doesn't add up.

If wanting to turn all civil right's measures over to the states , 50% of which would deny civil right's to blacks, hispanics , gays and women is not racist, then just what the hell is it called ? Or are all minority populations suppose to move to the coastal states so that we may be accorded the same rights as all other citizens as guarranteed by the US Constitutution? The problem with libertarians is that they think only in terms of theory and fail to carry out their thoughts to the impracticalities of what their theories cause.

Excellent point, joeredford. You just answered your own question. Because all rights of the constitution are guaranteed to all, states would not be allowed to go against it. The states would be free to do as they like, as long as no constitutional rights are violated.

We will never have a united - United States. People on the extremes of both ideological divides will never compromise sufficiently to accomplish that. Therefore the US will have to divide into at least three different countries. The Red, the Blue, and the White Supremacists.

its amazes me how they overlook that always. there is a differance between alowing an individual business to screw them selves by discriminating and allowing a state to sanction bigotry of any kind as was the case with Jim Crow and segrigation laws. Big differance between the twoand the constitutional amendments prohibits the latter form of bigotry. The centrists cant stand when people point oit their faild attampt to legislate race relations.

Patenlty false. If Texas decides to reject gay marriage I am being denied my rights in that state as well as most likely 32 other ones. If Wisconsin decides to ( as it already has) to surpress the votes of students, African Americans , hispanics and the elderly, there is nothing in the constitution to prevent them from doing so. The voting rights act only applies to 8 southern states that had a history of denying voting rights to blacks and has no enforcement in states outside of that act. States right's is nothing but code for government sanctioned bigotry and Ron Paul, and every other Republican candidate, are the chief proponents of turning everything over to the states. Anarchy and chaos may be your cup of tea, but it sure as hell isn't mine. I can see it all now --50 different states with 50 different drug laws-- you'd need to stay clean all the time just to be sober enough to figure out what state you're in just to determine whether you can get stoned or not. What a freaking farce.

Outrageous guilt by association smear tactic. I remember they did the same thing to Obama and even John McCain with John Hagee's endorsement.

Remember how that fat lunatic warmonger John Hagee said that Adolph Hitler and the Nazis were doing God's work?

"These views led the Southern Poverty Law Center to dub Rand Paul an “extremist,” over a view his father has actively promoted."

Another weak guilt by association smear.

Plus the SPLC has no credibility. Remember when Mark Potok from the SPLC went on Keith Olberman and tried to blame some imaginary people from the Tea Party for the Kathy Giffords Tucson, Arizona shooting massacre?

In other words, he's the typical sleight of hand politician using the "now I say it, now I don't" ruse. Thanks for posting this, KB.

    • Yeah Ron Paul is trying to take away people's rights, by running as the party that treats everyone fairly and grants everyone equal rights. Oh that certainly sound sinister. I am sure people would stand by as racism was brought back and say nothing, I mean I would be the law right? What fantasy land do you people live in? Ron Paul is not perfect but who is the better choice? All the other candidates sit on the council for foreign relations AKA the NWO. Seriously name one candidate that would change the status quo beside Paul?

Obviously you either don't know, or you wish to deny, that those other 15 channels depend upon the NHC for their info. The NHC has undoubtedly prevented the loss of hundreds - if not thousands - of lives. So you'd prefer to make snide remarks about it rather than to keep it in place?

    • If Ron Paul is extreme then I say he isn't extreme enough. We've got serious problems here and they really have nothing to do with fleet-footed Blacks or not wanting to use a homosexual's bathroom.

But lets sit here and talk about Blacks and gays all day.

    • Paul is not doing a very good job of hiding his extremism - that is apparent to anyone paying attention.

If elected, Paul would destroy the federal government, and he would be very happy to allow states to discriminate against gays, blacks, and non-Christians.

At this point, given the fact that Paul has been thoroughly exposed as a racist, homophobic, antisemitic, bible thumping bigot, it is hard to imagine how anyone could support Ron Paul except for white supremacists and those feeble minded individuals duped by white supremacists.

Although I do admit I love to watch the Paultards try to spin, deny and obfuscate the despicable truth about their dear leader.

    • Who is still allowing the military to drone bomb babies overseas?

Who is supporting NDAA, and probably SOPA?

Who has been, and will continue to wage a "soft race war" known as prohibition...

Well it's not Paul, but he's the "extremist", let's just forget that even the "left" is calling Obama as "centrist conservative" (that's all they'll admit to), the fact is he's more like a Fascist, and has put Bush's policies on steroids....

Traded half of a $60 Billion trade when it's finished of arms to Egypt a country that just executed a woman whose only crime was being a "witch".....

lmao..... "extremist" hardly... But when you consider even the "right" has come out and said things like "if Paul wins Iowa, it doesn't count".... How could you expect the "left" to give a shit about the will of the people... Even Obama who on numerous occasions has been confronted with the issue of marijuana prohibition laughs it off and ignores the people...

Representative democracy my ass, no amount of lies will hide the fascism... Worse is so many people accept the fascism out of Obama, but Paul is an
"extremist".... Pathetic, there isn't even a solid argument for that case....

      1. Learn how to spell hypocrite.
2 .Gay people can not make out openly in the military anymore than straight people can. Both cases would be considered conduct unbecoming
      3. You obviously have issues with gays. Get some help.
      4. What does exteemist mean?
      5. Ron Paul is only slightly less right wing than all the other Rethuglican candidates which is like saying Goebbels was only slightly less of a Nazi than Eichmann.
      6. Perhaps it would be an enlightening experience to actually check out the many benefits that have already benefited many people with pre-existing conditions whose lives have been saved by the Heath Care Reform Act before you spread ill informed misinformation that you repeat as part of your confused mantra. And investigate the fact that one can no longer have their policies cancelled when you get sick and that your children may stay on a policy untill they are 27 is of value to many.Paul, by the way, does not believe in any form of government run heath care.
      7. 90% of Paul's philosophy runs counter to everything you claim that you believe. If you believe for one second that his theories of no government intervention will help you help your family, you are in for a very rude awakening. But I wouldn't worry about that too much since Paul has about as much chance of being elected to anything as I do of turning straight over night.

      1. dont be a spelling nazi you obviosly got what I had to say.

      2. Gays can be open about their sexuality now in the millitary thats Obamas Big Gay Win pretty much his only as he still wont sign an executive order to recend DOMA. but what ever your too busy creaming your self over the fact that you have such a Fabulous looking prez, fuck what his actions are at least he looks good while he is a tyrant perpetuating the tyrany of a corupt system. right?

3.I love gays been hanging with them for years made out with a few even when I was experimanting sexualy. The dick was not a problem I just love Boobys too much to be with flat chested men. But your a victem so the whole world is either with you or against you, sad realy.

      4. It means you dont know phonics sound it out like this YOU RE RE-TAR-DED. get it? good.

      5. Ya and Obama is only slightly less right wing than Paul. personaly I voted for a raging liberal democrat but got a republican lite anyway. so if thats my only choice then I think I pick the one that will do at least a few of the things he says he will that are what I want and let the fucking chips land where they may. you and your core gay community is just anouther special interest group looking to get yours and fuck the rest well gusse what Pauls gona give us the end of prohibition a compleatly UN-American legal precident and end the wars which given your communities activity in the service should make you fucking estati. Obama Obviosly could give a shit how many gays or straits die in these BS foriegn wars.

      6. I am well aware of Obama's triumphs and failures because I was right there rooting for a tax payer funded healthcare while we still dominated the congress and saw that real sollution be replaced with the capitulation to republicans of adding 30 million new cutomers to the customer rolls of the very industry we are sick of have fuck us over. If you thnk they are not still fucking over people then your the fucking nieve one here. I was also there when he continued the patriot act and folded on closing Gitmo. I was here recently when he alowed the language that will allow for the indefinate detention of Americans by our millitary with out trial or habius corpus. so sell your Hocum some where else.

      7. For upteinth time I am not a Ron Paul supporter I like Rocky Anderson with the Justice Party. what I am is sick to fucking death of Obama worshipers who are to pridefull to admit that we got take in by a flim flam man and are now using the same fucking tactics against their opponents that they say they hat their opponents for using. Its fucking hypocritical and indefensible. let go of your embarassment and move one we all got fooled you only make yourself out to be all the more the fool by continueing to be taken in by this republican in a democrat suit.

And secondly you are obviously quite naive when it comes to politics. Obama cannot sign an executive order abolishing DOMA since it is a law passed by Congress and must be rescinded by Congress or overturned in the courts. He does not have that power. Perhaps a political science course would help understand your government in a more realistic capacity rather than blaming people for things they have no legal authority to correct.
