Happy New Year California! Two new dumb laws go into effect

Gay history will soon be included in California's schools curriculum.

The state has become the first in the nation to require textbooks and history classes to cover the contributions of gay, lesbian and transgendered Americans.

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed the bill into law Wednesday, just a week after the Democratic-majority Legislature passed the measure on a party-line vote.

"History should be honest," Brown said in a statement Thursday. "This bill revises existing laws that prohibit discrimination in education and ensures that the important contributions of Americans from all backgrounds and walks of life are included in our history books."
http://articles.nydailynews.com/2011-07-15/news/29796583_1_gay-history-law-textb... A California bill working its way through the state legislature providing more protection for transgender individuals in the workplace could allow for cross-dressing employees to wear whatever they want to work, despite workplace dress codes.

AB 887, which passed through the state’s Assembly on May 16, is causing a stir among critics who feel it’s raising the identity of a transgender individual to the same level as one’s ethnicity or gender.

“If you talk to the average (human resources) manager and ask if there would be any disturbances if a man came dressed as a woman one week and then as a man the next, I think the (HR) rep would say ‘yeah, this would be disruptive to the workplace,’ ” said Brad Daucus, a California attorney and president of the Pacific Justice Institute. “It will inherently cause customers to be uncomfortable and not want to do business.”

    • So the dress code all people follow at workplace does not apply to transgender. Are they the special group above the rules? Or the private companies will be excluded and a large transgender population will be employed in the government agencies.

I have nothing against gay or lesbians, but it is just as absurd to teach the gay/lesbian contributions to the society as it is to teach about the contributions of a group of heterosexuals who enjoy sex with their partner in a particular sexual positions. What does that have to do with anything?

And what about the parents who do not believe in sexuality or sex education be in public school textbooks? I do not consider this to be an education. No wonder our children's education ranks at the bottom in the world.

what i understand is that mandated (no pun intended) laws that require schools to teach children gay contributions to society is twisted and wrong. as a parent i should have the freedom to not have that sort of curriculum forced on my children. im not against teaching kids about men and women who have contributed to society who happen to be or have been gay, but why is it necessary to mention the sexuality of said contributors? and seriously, do you want to sit next to or be served by someone who looks like the picture above? blech!

most parents with traditional values cannot afford to send their kids to parochial schools. after all we are part of the forced labeled 99%. if you wish to teach your child at home about gay contributors thats your business. forced educational mandates on sexuality is wrong, period.

    • So you have a problem with schools teaching children that gay people have contributed to history as well. That they are normal people like everyone else? That's not surprising. As far as the transgender thing goes... I highly doubt that a person who is transgender is going to "dress like a woman one week, and a man the next" A cross-dresser is very different from someone who is transgender.

thats the problem that most leftylibs choose to ignore. a practicing gay lifestyle is not normal, it is abnormal. men and women, heterosexual lifestyles is whats normal. both were created to compliment each other and to procreate, if youre lucky! as i told alice above...im not against teaching kids about men and women who have contributed to society who happen to be or have been gay, but why is it necessary to mention the sexuality of said contributors?

Bigotry is abnormal. Bigotry is a lifestyle choice. Being gay is not. You dont choose who you're attracted to.. neither do they. If it weren't for bigots like yourself there would be no need to mention their sexuality.

Orientation is only relevant to the homo-phobes on one hand, and the freaks on the Left on the other hand. And wow, poor Alice, what a confused creature.

From a social psychological point of view, bigotry is very, very normal. Nearly every society has built-in bigotry in that some segment of the population is considered vermin. The Spartans had their Helots. The US has had Catholics, Mormons, Blacks, Gays, "Oakies", "Japs" portrayed as vermin worthy of death. Pretty shameful bigotry.

Removing that bigotry from a whole society? Very hard to do, but for some reason, the governments wish to keep the number of killings, lynchings, and torture down to a minimum.

Sure the laws are screwed up. They always are.

Got a better idea on how to defuse our powder keg of a society? Speak, don't hold back.

What a ridiculous argument. Because every society has bigotry that makes it normal? Every society since the beginning of time has had pedophiles too. Does that make it normal?

agreed, we do not choose who or what we are attracted to. ive always been puzzled why reasonably attractive people end up with fat slobs or why some men choose to fuck cows or sheep, but even still that doesnt make it normal. bigotry in humans is more common place than homosexuality, we are all bigoted to one degree or another and that includes gays...A bigot is a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one exhibiting intolerance, and animosity toward those of differing beliefs. so find a new label that is more pertinent to your point

bigotry although not always pleasant is normal behavior in all humans to some degree. pedophiles and homosexuality no matter how you want to twist it is abnormal behavior. its existance does not make it normal

Normal is what happens. Just because you don't like a thing does not make it abnormal. Bigotry exists in wide swatches in societies. All societies. Social psychology is not the same as individual psychology.

And as to your pedophiles thing, they were actually well tolerated in some societies. None that I would want to live in though.

Keep your reactions under control, and start to come up with solutions, adaptations or suggestions. You know, wisdom. We can use a bucketload right now.

Normal is what happens. Homosexuality has always been around. It's not the team I play on, but it's out there.

Just because you don't like it, does not make it abnormal. It's just a personal values violation for you.

If God really wanted to stop it, he would have done it long ago. Remember, in addition to mysterious ways, God works in evolutionary ways, too.

no need to have it legally mandated or mentioned in a public school forum unless its pertinent, which in all likelyhood it extremely and rarely would never be. regardless of ones viewpoint, just like religion it should be taught in the home. bigotry is inherent in all of us to one degree or another, before you point fingers you should do an honest self apraisal

nice to see you defending the defenseless and a great spin. im sure god doesnt like abortion doctors murdering babies either but it continues, maybe gods evolutionary plan will include human compasion for the unborn as well. just because homosexuality has always existed and you see it as normal does not make it so.

Exactly! For you it's abnormal. For me, while not the norm, it is one of many normal lifestyles whether by choice or not. Homosexuality is a very successful lifestyle for many very creative people who are hugely valuable for our society. Homosexuality is correlated with emotional creativity to some extent, you might say.

And while you may or may not like the fact that many of your favorite shows run on the creative power of fags and lesbos, I say let 'em be. All of them.

Hell, CB, you got more important fights to fight than any of this. It's manini

sure there are more important fights and i appreciate the positive contributions to all aspects of society by whomever. but i still hold to my beliefs that to mention that billy bob who invented that thingamajig that allows cars to drive 1000 miles on one ounce of morning dew happened to be gay and is as irrelevent as it would be to mention if he was straight. now if mom or dad want to bring it up at the dinner table thats their families business. but creating legisltaion to force it into school curriculum in my opinion is wrong.

      Respect, mon.
But if I were gay, I'd kind of appreciate any help at all in keeping from being harrassed, hounded, tortured and beaten at the local McDonalds.

The government is only doing the job in the only way a government can do it. badly, poorly, halting, and lame. But here is the question: Got a better idea?

OMG! This even freaks me out! I lived in Los Angeles for 10 years, I moved out of that hell hole and ass-backwards state back in 1991, sure glad I did. Regardless of the level of lunacy out there, this does not surprise me one bit! I just feel sorry for my friends who have no family or connections outside of California, to them it's "home".
