Yep. A 'new year' would be based on a seasonal change, not the middle of nothing in particular! Just one more rip off of old pagan parties to wile away the long winter nights.
And I always wish friends a happy new (insert friend's name here) year. Figure my year started on my birthday and yours started on your birthday! =)
