Ohio Peace Officer Drafts NDAA Letter For Police And Sheriffs

...do we as police officers, sheriffs, deputies and others who have taken the oath to uphold and defend the constitution, now turn our back on that very oath? Do we now turn against the very same people that entrusted us with a most sacred duty to serve and protect them? If in fact we follow a rule of law such as this bill enacts, it would mean that the oath that we all took meant nothing. We are obliged to follow all lawful orders given to us, but we cannot do this blindly. http://oathkeepers.org/oath/2012/01/07/ohio-peace-officer-drafts-ndaa-letter-for...

    • Given the threats posed by the NDAA, this is probably the most immediately effective way to counter and limit its dangers: Right at the ground level of enforcement.

Reminding and having your local Police officers, sheriffs and deputies truly understand and appreciate the oath they made to the Constitution and to serve the public, is a great way to counter act propaganda from the federal government that local police must enforce an unarguable fascist, unconstitutional law, and hence invalid non-law, involving the indefinite detention of U.S. citizens.

I don't yet know enough about this group's other activities to say whether I support or condemn this group as a whole. Regardless, either way, I can support this, and only this, particular initiative as it lines up with my overall goals.

    • Really good post, wbrad. Thanks. Probably a topic that we should be trying to wrap out heads around sooner rather than later because I think we're going to be confronting some serious issues head-on this summer.

Day0 and unimatrix0 make the salient points here (thanks). This looks really cool until you dig in to it. In my view "oathkeepers" are not necessarily "evil". Maybe they're just different in a way that bothers us a little.
Right now my view is the "Occupy" view. Our concerns, and where they are directed, are evident. Apart from those we have no interest (or anything to gain) by alienating or demonizing anyone, no matter their political persuasion.

      Pathetic fear-mongering poppycock.

These fearmongering warnings are almost a few years years old now and they still haven't found their Hitler. What do think is taking them so long?

    • It's a hopeful sign that a law enforcement officer would come forward with such an outstanding treatise opposing the NDAA and do so with the understanding his primary function is to uphold the constitution. I hope the officers around the occupy protests read this. Maybe then they will understand they are being subjugated to further the interests of the banking industry of this country. I honestly think most of those officers believe they are performing their jobs in the public interest, not realizing they are simply pawns in a larger scheme.
