Obama; The Most Pro-War President In History

congoboy
Barack Obama is fighting wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Libya. He is spending more on the US military than any previous president. If he serves for eight years as president, he will spend over $8 trillion on defence, including the hidden costs of the war economy. Fifty per cent of all US tax dollars is spent on the US military. America spends more on defence than the combined total military budget of every other country in the world. • Wow, this is one cluster fuck of an argument that I'm reading here, and I'm not referring to the actual topic but the replies going back and forth.

The only question I have is are we really in Libya? If we do not have any actual combat troops in Libya then we are not fighting a war in Libya and approving UN action to invade/overthrow Libya without any actual manpower from the United States does not count as fighting a war in Libya either.

      It.
      Is.
      That.
      Simple.

Yes, we are really in Libya. But, there's an illusion to overcome:

Dr. Gilbert Aschchar, of the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, as much as an expert on Libyan affairs as anyone, posed the "billion dollar question" about the Libyan revolt last August: "Who are the Libyan Rebels?" He did not know who they were, where they got their backing and how they organized in Gadhafi's tightly controlled society. We do know that the CIA was actively colluding with Gadhafi in their extraordinary rendition program. We do know that since Gadhafi's "rehabilitation" a few years back, Big Oil had established a huge presence in Libya, though their profits were mitigated by Gadhafi's policy of pricing contracts allowing a return dedicated to social justice - another term for socialism and market control by the people rather than the one-percenters. It's safe to assign a high likelihood to Big Oil security contractors and the CIA had a hand in organizing and arming the "rebels." Something for future historians to ferret out.

The situation in Libyan society is deteriorating - random extrajudicial executions of suspected former Gadhafi loyalists and black Africans in general - but Big Oil has scored big time. So, American feet on the ground includes Big Oil and their security contractors, as well as the usual CIA minders, etc. The war - "revolt" if you like - was fomented by the West at the bidding of Big Oil, and supported by the West - principally the US and France through "NATO." A lot of innocent civilians were killed in a war that was putatively started to prevent the killing of innocent civilians.

Corporate Big Oil, their security contractors, the CIA, and the West's proxies, the "rebels," are our feet on the ground. Ground troops per se, such as in Iraq and Afghanistan, were not needed this time around. A coup for Big Oil, the American Corporatocracy, and the one percenters.

    • I'm sorry I forgot to add that the Bush/Cheney plan if Iraq had not turned into a civil war with the U.S. troops stuck in the middle of their plan was to invade Iran from both east from Afghanistan, and west from Iraq. This is now known to be the plan they wished to fulfill. I am sorry to burst your bubble but Obama and co have no intention of War with Iran unless of course they attack U.S. warships in International waters of the Persian Gulf. Just the facts jack. Bush/ Cheney were and will go down in history of pre-emtive war against a sovreign nation with zero proof of the claims they made to support their war. Projection guilt is the oldest game you can play only morons fall lor it.

    • No U.S. troops in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan were inherited to him by Bush, we are now out of Iraq, with the Afghan drawdown to begin this year. No troops in Pakistan, as a matter of fact when Obama ran for President he made it very clear he would pursue terrorists suspects into Pakistan. So in the end your claim is Bullshit. Oh yea, and Obama has succeeded in the war on terror 10x what Bushies and Co achieved.

Listen, is Obama a disappointing sell-out who's been beaten down to the point where he forgot about his message of hope? Probably. Is he a war monger? I really don't think so. He handled Libya and Pakistan the way W. should have handled Iraq: without putting troops on the ground. I'd rather see a few innocent Pakistanis or Libyans get killed than even one U.S soldier. It's not our fault; it's their fascist governments' faults. Anyway what would you do about Afghanistan, Congoboy, where the Taliban and Al Queda actually still exist (or so we're told)? Thanks to the last administration's military and diplomatic actions, there's an even bigger mess than before we went in.

partially agreed. bush started the afghan thing and i was against it then. obama made it one of his stumping points in 2007 and 2008 claiming it to be a just war and has since made it his personal baby. the violence and massive civilian deaths have greatly increased under obamas watch so essentially the quagmire in afghanistan is all his.

    • Yup. Sadly, this is true. It sucks that my fellow "liberals" still don't get it. I guess if you put a D next to someone's name on the ballot, it makes the bad shit they do invisible to otherwise intelligent people. Put a D next to George W Bush's name and the left wing would have been silent. Of course the powers that be figured this out and that's how we got Barrack Obama. A right-wing monster who isn't scary because of the letter D.

maybe you should get your facts straight, but that would be uncharacteristic of the left. i never claimed to be married. wow calling me a liar in public over the internet? could be considered libelous. maybe i should contact a good loiyah, but again only a pussy would do that. as far as iran goes they should be bombed into glass heres the words from one of the good jews..Who Wants to Bomb Iran? Dems, not the GOP, says Seymour Hersh. I recently spoke with Hersh, whose new piece, "Target Iran," is featured in The New Yorker this week.
When I asked Hersh who wants to bomb Iran, he said "Ironically there is a lot of pressure coming from Democrats. Hillary Clinton, Obama, and Edwards have all said we cannot have a nuclear-armed Iran. Clearly the pressure from Democrats is a reflection of – we might as well say it – Israeli and Jewish input." He added the obvious: "a lot of money comes to the Democratic campaigns" from Jewish contributors. http://www.thenation.com/blog/who-wants-bomb-iran-dems-not-gop-says-seymour-hers... Israel Discuss Triggers for Bombing Iran’s Nuclear Infrastructure
      Dec 28, 2011 4:45 AM EST

The Obama administration is trying to assure Israel privately that it would strike Iran militarily if Tehran’s nuclear program crosses certain “red lines”—while attempting to dissuade the Israelis from acting unilaterally. Eli Lake reports exclusively. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/12/28/u-s-israel-discuss-triggers-for.... so before you point a finger my hypocritical friend remembah, three are pointed back at you. so who's a liar? i'd never accuse you of that but you certainly, like most on the left are misinformed. shalom

Sounds like you might have been polluted by watching too much teevee, perhaps. Start? Wars? He's expanded the war in Afghanistan and is murdering innocent bystanders - not to mention American citizens, whatever you think of them - and we will still "lose" the war, not that "winning" or "losing" are a point in all of this anyway - he's followed Duh-byuh's timetable for leaving Iraq, the only dumber thing to do than going there in the first place, which has dissolved into chaos and will soon be in "enemy" hands - though Big Oil is now in the driver's seat on the oil fields, rendering Big Oil suspect in causing the whole problem in the first place - he started a war in Libya, or, pardon me, came in like it was Bay of Pigs II with a twist - this time the CIA/Big Oil armed the "rebels," and call it NATO if your taste runs to needing to lie to yourself as to who was doing the dirt - and he's dangerously baiting Russia (missiles in E. Europe; weapons deals with the Georgian Republic - as in nuclear missiles in Cuba but on the other side of the mirror), dangerously baiting China (Hillary Clinton's recent article in Foreign Affaris, Obama's Australian speech) - this is brinkmanship more blatant than we've seen since just before Korea and just before Pearl Harbor. Obama is running around the world, berserk and armed to the teeth (kudos to the Swiss blogger who told me that was what those folks thought of us) - berserk and armed to the teeth, impersonating a big swinging dick but looking like a dangerous fool to everyone else in the world except assorted European one-percenters and the Israelis, who have now gone mad to a heretofore unforseen extent. We're out of our minds even trying to think this is normal, folks, anything but just plain nuts. The economy has tanked and the USA is far beyond anyone's definition of insolvent or bankrupt. Have you heard of the parasitic disease of ants that requires residence in a cow to complete its life cycle? The parasite affects the ant's brain, and causes it to climb to the top of a blade of grass to ensure browsing ungulates consume the ant, where the parasite leaves the ant and infects the cow, to end up in cowshit for the next ant to eat. Capitalism has infected our brains, folks, and we are climbing up on the leaf and waiting to be consumed by the cow of war, same as it ever was.

    • Interesting thread... Everything from the fact the Libya had one of the largest Gold stashes (per-capita) in the world, the oil, the aquifer.... And read up on Gaddafi he was by MANY accounts a "great leader", with details supporting the claim...

Hmmm I love how Obama "earned" the Orwellian Peace prize, he did, it's just the "Nobel Peace Prize" that was totally unwarranted...

Don't even tell me what he did with all the extra-judicial killings including on 16 year old American born U.S. citizen... The 300+ innocent people murdered in Pakistan ALONE... (lovely drone program)

Sold Israel "bunker busters" even Bush refuse to sell them....

Yeah Obama sucks is pretty shitty regardless of the validity of the title claim here...

I was not aware of that aquifer. Good point. But the Libyan oil reserves are very large - 8th in the world - and the cost of production is arguably lowest in the world, making the oil being pumped there the most profitable in the world. Investment companies were shilling for positions on Libyan oil well before the "revolt."

sounds like slander to me. but leave it to a chronic, aged, ultra liberal kike to be hypocritical...He was a black child, by American lights, but his mother and his grandparents—the only family he knew—were “white folks,” and his confusion was acute. In “Dreams from My Father,” Obama describes how, as a teen-ager, he tried marijuana and cocaine. (“I guess you’d have to say I wasn’t a politician when I wrote the book,” he told me. “I wanted to show how and why some kids, maybe especially young black men, flirt with danger and self-destruction.”) He went to Columbia University, and liked New York, but he found the city’s racial tension inescapable. It “flowed freely,” he wrote in his memoir—“not just out on the streets but in the stalls of Columbia’s bathrooms as well, where, no matter how many times the administration tried to paint them over, the walls remained scratched with blunt correspondence between niggers and kikes. It was as if all middle ground had collapsed.” from your own fearless leader my friend, not mine. http://jewagainstobama.wordpress.com/2008/06/16/obama-referred-to-jews-as-kikes/

Just about all of your points are very bad indeed, but just to take three:

The war in Iraq is not over. People are still getting blown up, the country is in a shambles, and worse is likely to come. But, Big Oil is still there pumping crude at bargain rates, which should please those in the Bush family business, and possibly yourself.

Brokered "the" Russian Nuclear Agreement...true world peace..." Sorry, the fool is arming the Georgian Republic and is planting missiles in Eastern Europe, enraging the Russians and corroding possiblities for peace.

Prevented Qaddafi from massacring...? Who armed the rebels, anyway? Most deaths came because of NATO airstrikes and rebel activity - rebels who were organized and armed most likely by Big Oil, who had gained a foothold in the country and are now, as in Iraq, merrily pumping away with little restraint and massive profits. Profits that will no longer go in significant amounts to the people of Libya, ditto Iraq. Libya's the big lie whose time will come.

I won't go into how he's playing brinksmanship against China with his bellicose sabre-rattling about increasing America's military presence in SE Asia. And just how did "he" coordinate anything with Haiti, besides encouraging the popular Aristide to not return to his native Haiti after being deposed by a reportedly US-backed military coup, instead backing a rightwing nightclub comic as President.

The truth is the truth my friend! The guy was in office less than 10 months before he won the prize. He was still conducting 2 Wars, Torturing people in Guantanamo Bay Cuba, & Conducting WARRANTLESS searches of American Citizens. These are just a few of the non peaceful things he was doing.

You are deluding yourself if you believe under the “EXACT” same circumstances a White American President would have won the prize. They gave it to him more as a way of saying America has come a LONG way.

By the by Michael Vic is still a POS “NOT” because he is black but because he tortures animals for entertainment! I thought we had gone over that before.

      You forgot some stuff:

Glenn Greenwald can help you out a bit. From one of his articles:

"President Obama — himself holds heinous views on a slew of critical issues and himself has done heinous things with the power he has been vested. He has slaughtered civilians — Muslim children by the dozens — not once or twice, but continuously in numerous nations with drones, cluster bombs and other forms of attack. He has sought to overturn a global ban on cluster bombs. He has institutionalized the power of Presidents — in secret and with no checks — to target American citizens for assassination-by-CIA, far from any battlefield. He has waged an unprecedented war against whistleblowers, the protection of which was once a liberal shibboleth. He rendered permanently irrelevant the War Powers Resolution, a crown jewel in the list of post-Vietnam liberal accomplishments, and thus enshrined the power of Presidents to wage war even in the face of a Congressional vote against it. His obsession with secrecy is so extreme that it has become darkly laughable in its manifestations, and he even worked to amend the Freedom of Information Act (another crown jewel of liberal legislative successes) when compliance became inconvenient.

He has entrenched for a generation the once-reviled, once-radical Bush/Cheney Terrorism powers of indefinite detention, military commissions, and the state secret privilege as a weapon to immunize political leaders from the rule of law. He has shielded Bush era criminals from every last form of accountability. He has vigorously prosecuted the cruel and supremely racist War on Drugs, including those parts he vowed during the campaign to relinquish — a war which devastates minority communities and encages and converts into felons huge numbers of minority youth for no good reason. He has empowered thieving bankers through the Wall Street bailout, Fed secrecy, efforts to shield mortgage defrauders from prosecution, and the appointment of an endless roster of former Goldman, Sachs executives and lobbyists. He’s brought the nation to a full-on Cold War and a covert hot war with Iran, on the brink of far greater hostilities. He has made the U.S. as subservient as ever to the destructive agenda of the right-wing Israeli government. His support for some of the Arab world’s most repressive regimes is as strong as ever.

Most of all, America’s National Security State, its Surveillance State, and its posture of endless war is more robust than ever before. The nation suffers from what National Journal‘s Michael Hirsh just christened “Obama’s Romance with the CIA.” He has created what The Washington Post just dubbed “a vast drone/killing operation,” all behind an impenetrable wall of secrecy and without a shred of oversight. Obama’s steadfast devotion to what Dana Priest and William Arkin called “Top Secret America” has severe domestic repercussions as well, building up vast debt and deficits in the name of militarism that create the pretext for the “austerity” measures which the Washington class (including Obama) is plotting to impose on America’s middle and lower classes. "
