Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Monday complained that Occupy Wall Street protesters were “blocking” his right to free speech.
The former House Speaker told Fox News host Sean Hannity that he had canceled an event at his campaign headquarters, where protesters were waiting outside the front and back entrances.
“Some of the Occupy Wall Street people, frankly, have a touch of anarchism in them,” Gingrich declared. “I think, ultimately, the society’s going to have to say there are limits to those kind of folks blocking people from having their right to free speech. But we decided it wasn’t worth risking some kind of big confrontation and so we, frankly, decided to skip past that particular event.”
“I do think we can’t be held hostage by those kind of people,” he added.
The Georgia Republican said that Ron Paul supporters, on the other hand, were “pretty civil and pretty decent.”
At the same time Gingrich was accusing Occupy Wall Street demonstrators of infringing on his free speech, police in Manchester, New Hampshire were investigating allegations that one of his staffers assaulted a protester.
“He pushed me roughly, and he said, ‘Get out. We don’t want you here,’” Rebecca Burton, who was holding a protest sign at a Gingrich event, recalled to Hartford Courant.
“He grabbed me and shoved me with absolutely no provocation. I said I wanted an apology. … It was completely out of the blue. I had my back to him,” she explained. “I was assaulted without an injury.”

"So Gingrich is saying "We can't be held Hostage by those kind of people" odd!!! Does he not realize how many times in the Obama administration, the GOP has held the American People Hostage???"

Newt doesn't believe that anyone who isn't a scheming, smarmy, lying, filthy rich autocrat should be allowed free speech. What an arrogant SOB he is. He's making himself useful now by throwing his "You-can't-do-that-to-me!" hissy fit (rich boys are good at those) against Reversible Mittens, but we mustn't forget that he and Mittens are cut from the same elitist cloth. Get used to it, Newt. The 99% aren't going anywhere, and we have voices.

In Newt's world, free speech is the right of the right alone. If the 99% and O.W.C. were protesting food stamps, welfare, Planned Parenthood and regulations, not only would Newt and the rest of the Republicans be all for it, I doubt you would see much of a police presence either.

I think all of the field of re-Pigs think this way. They would dearly like OWS people to be restricted to a "free speech zone". To a re-Pig a "free" country means they are free from the challenges of thinking people.

So when armed thugs in armor beat people to death to prevent protesters "free speach", that's A.O.K. for Newt and Hannity, but when unarmed kids with signs are out front of the door he wants to go through, THAT's an affront to freedom.

Well Newt has a SuperPAC to do his talking for him.
That makes me wonder... What would happen if everyone involved in or anyone who supports the Occupy movement (but isn't or can't be involved physically) gave a small donation to an Occupy SuperPAC that could run ads or do other things to undermine the corrupt assholes that think they own this country? If they can do it we should be able to do it too...
I know I'd give them $50 every couple of months if I got to see some awesome anti-big bank/bank locally ads, or other similar things. With the shit these SuperPACs get away with this should be no trouble at all.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, and take 'em down using their own rules.

The newt is playing dumb and pandering to the idiots on the right who think disagreeing with idiots on the right violates their free speech.
Only the state can do that. People disagreeing with other people are not violating their free speech and the newt knows that. The newt, as with many other liars just don't want to have their lies pointed out to them. What they really seek is freedom from facts.

But it was OK that the tea baggers bought guns and shouted down the speakers at the health care reform debate town halls. When it benefits these douchebags, they love anarchy. When it's tea bagger anarchy, it's democracy in action.

"Does he not realize how many times in the Obama administration, the GOP has held the American People Hostage???" Haven't andit isn't a relevent remark anyhow.
Gingrich has a point. The Occupiers seem to be very quick to exercise some "rights" they are so eager to remind us that they have yet not the responsibility or decorum that is part of that exercise. A touch of anarchism is a good descriptive. If I were a politician I would not engage them in debate either.

I think the point you are missing is that Gingrich and other candidates have the forum. They have the media, the political debates, the televised ad campaigns and annoucements. They have had these platforms for YEARS, and used it to do nothing but promote their agendas without any regard for the American citizen.
The people get small and sparsely held town hall meetings in which a handful of the population gets a slight chance at speaking truth to power(this is IF the politician even attends the town hall ala Eric Cantor, who skipped out on his town hall meeting when it was filled with dissenters). Often times dissent isn't even properly addressed or even acknowledged by the politician.
If he was doing his job to his consitituents, then there would be nothing to fear when speaking. He wouldn't have to cancel meetings, and he wouldn't have to complain to the mainsteam media about having his free speech "blocked" (which is ironic since he's obviously speaking to the press unobstructed and uninhibited).
A touch of anarchism is good; helps to remind the elite who really wears the pants in this economy. Although I wouldn't call that anarchism; it's more accurate to call it Freedom of Speech.

I disagree. He is entitled to just as much "free speech" as the others. Gingrich has no constituents so he should have noting to fear when speaking. This was done merely to disrupt, not to prove a point. You seem to be throwing a lot of talking points and Occupy b.s in the mix when it doesn't belong.

I have no idea what you are trying to say in your reply.
If the Occutards has a much "decorum " as the Tea Party there would not be businesses blocked from doing business, sex assaults in the camps, people pooping in the streets, trash laying around for other people to clean up, whining about "Where is my portable toilet?" - 5 months ago

The state can't give you freedom and the state can't take it away . You're born with it , like your eyes . like your ears . Freedom is something you assume , then you wait for someone to try and take it away . The degree with which you resist , is the degree to which you are free . __ Utah Philips .
