A lot has come from the Human Genome project in the past few years. Interesting is the "CCR5 anomaly" talked about at around 34:00 minutes. If both parents carry this anomaly it renders their child immune to the black plague, immune to the flu, immune to smallpox and HIV/AIDS. When put in a historic context a specific ethnicity carried the CCR5 anomaly and explains a lot of the reactions toward them when others died of the bubonic plague and other diseases and they lived.
