Cop Turns Off Video Equipment, Beats 66-Yr-Old Man w/ Dementia

LT4456
A Melbourne, Florida cop turned off his audio and video equipment before beating a 66-year-old man suffering from dementia "for no apparent reason," WFTV reports.

The officer turned off his video and audio equipment before the beating. The department was able to extract the video from the hard drive, but not the audio.

The only disciplinary record the officer received for the incident was a written reprimand for turning off the recording equipment.

Flowers was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer.

"It's ridiculous. Clearly from this video there was no assault on a law enforcement officer. We asked for a speedy trial. We want a jury to see this video," attorney Paul Bross said.

    • This has been going on for years. Why is anyone surprised? The real question is when are we going to start some type of community oversight committee to address this rising crime against the people by the police?

    • Isn't it tragic that a sick militant faction of law enforcement is causing the characterizing of all law enforcement as vicious barbarians and murderous criminals? Which is worse, the occasional citizen committing a crime, or law enforcement routinely, institutionally and systematically behaving criminally?

    • I've written it before, and I'll write it again, if this kind of crap keeps up, the public is eventually going to become violent in response to these examples of police beatings. When that happens, these cops that use unnecessary violence will be lucky if they only get the shit kicked out of them by half a dozen people at a time.

My biggest concern is that when something like that starts to happen, a lot of decent and good police officers are going to get caught up in the retaliation against those that are bullies who wanted a badge so they could do this kind of shit, better known as pigs.

    • The cop is clearly a racist, probably a skin head judging by his shaved head. People who harbor hatred towards a race should never be allowed to serve as a cop. The fact that he turned off his camera is evidence that he intended on doing harm to the man.

    • This is totally sickening. There are three professions which attract psychopaths in large numbers - the police, the army, and crime.

    • ...wait a minute, you mean the 66 year old was charged with assault??? It not only looks the other way around to me, but the fact that he attempted to subvert the surveillance equipment implies premeditation...

    • I don't think there is a week that goes by that we don't hear about something like this. This is the new norm for PD's across the country. They know they have license to beat the crap or taze to death anyone they choose and they get a slap on the wrist at most.
