Well, yes, I guess, but on the downside you are paying much more to communicate and everything you communicate is subject to be read and retained by folks you don't know, and who don't have your interests at heart. That includes your physical location at all times.
Please note I'm not a raging conspiracy fan; these are just the simple factual elements of this particular node of "progress."

    • Forgetting iran's own intentions in milking this standoff, how can they do anything but see this whole situation as a threat to their existence? What are they in the pentagon thinking? Even the iranians who rose up against their government in the last few years would resist a us invasion. No way would they want to be the new iraq. This may well be the tipping point in the us from troubled republic to real dystopia in a lot of ways.

    • This is madness going to war with Iran. Prepare for world war three and the apocalypse brought to you by the United States, with sponsors Halliburton, GE, Cargill, Monsanto, The Carlyle Group, Ratheon....the list of corporate sponsors is endless.

    • - Keystone revealed: the code is out! "Operation totally screw up everything and no Iranian peoples freedom to boot!"

Oh great, another fantastic idea at killing people and further destroying the American economy, not to mention the world economy in these trying times. And I thought Tar Sands via Keystone of Hell was supposed to screw up world affairs and your backyard? Planning on totally fucking up things are they? Yippee, bang bang, whoops a daisy explosion catastrophe, WTF, hey there we go again. WW3 perhaps? Ending dependency on foreign oil?

I guess they'll start with destroying civilian infrastructure? Then maybe drop a few bombs on schools? Haliburton should do well out of the ensuing mayhem by under equipping US troops with shoddy equipment at an inflated price, employing Mexicans to wash all the uniforms while underpaying them, leaving servicemen crippled without proper health care...

Maybe we will get to see Fox bang the war drum and sell visions of death as entertainment.

Perhaps even God will encourage Satan to come up from the depths of Hell and create the new Babylon. Some people must want the Apocalypse desperately. Only problem is the Gates of Heaven are now permanently shut to people of all religions and persuasions. I received a tweet that the big man is on vacation until such a time that humankind accepts responsibility for the atrocious treatment of the Earth and repairs the damage inflicted upon it.

Good night and good luck. Another big war would leave America well and truly fucked. Something I'd hate to see and just too much for families who have had their people away for far too long over the last decade. Rebuild America and it's families.

    • I humbly disagree. Invading Iran is not the plan. The plan is to rattle the saber while squeezing them financially until they capitulate once again while the cycle of obfuscation continues.

But hey, maybe Jennifer Granholm will cover what a great voice he has on her Obama Apologist Show, the "War Room." You can bet you won't see this, even on CURRENT.

I could sing like a canary but unfortunately hemp seed is presently illegal for human consumption in Australia. However consuming propaganda is totally legal so we will probably aid America and send off our young people to die for the war for resources. We've also increased uranium exports so maybe we will also contribute to some flying nukes. We'll probably let the mad monk into power here as well at the next election and our conservatives also love a bloody war.

From outer space your country have been mapped, in a grig of a box of lines, and the spread of Missels into your country will leave nothing standing. And this will be without the use of NUKES.

    • This looks more like brinksmanship in the flavor of the Cuban Missile Crisis than anything else.

In order to threaten to block the Strait of Hormuz from US shipping, Iran must either be bluffing or speaking from a position of strength. If its the former, nothing will come of it. If it's the latter, then it must mean Iran's weapons situation is better than what we think it is or they may be hiding some other trump card, in which case anything can happen.

The EPA is a shadow of its former self and would not have the resources necessary to police 1700 miles of pipeline. The existing Keystone pipeline from Canada had multiple spills last year. Not sure I see your either or argument...but that's just me.

Iran can't afford to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, but the Iranian government will try and flex it's little muscles and talk tough for a while in order to scare people into thinking oil prices will become too expensive. They can probably play this little game maybe a couple more months before they seriously hurt their own economy. The current Iranian government are the masters of bluff, they've been practising for years now and trying to lead people down the garden path. They love acting all tough in front of the people and saying they can't be pushed around by foreigners, then shoot a few of their own people when they get fed up with inflated food prices and starvation.

Yes, America doesn't need another war. Too many young people have died and the economy can not sustain another drawn out bloody conflict. That would put and end to any American recovery and put many, many people out of work. The war itself would greatly hinder oil supplies from the region and drive up prices to extraordinary levels. Prices would probably double overnight!

    • Gotta have a plan, there may come a time when ending them is necessary. To the war hawks however I would say that time has not come, yet, although if they attempt to carry through with the execution of that supposed spy, that may be a good enough reason.

The reasons the spy was there are shady... We are not maintaining the international code we bomb multiple countries for...

A plan for defense, ok... But this is more than a plan. Execution of a spy is a shame, as is the execution of anyone, but why are we in their business in the first place? Why do we have a problem with them, but none of europe or asia while they acquired nuclear weapons... Is it about spies? Is it about nuclear energy? Nuclear weapons...? Where's the beef?

It's ambiguous at best, and hardly a reason for war.

It's not like America and half the bloody world doesn't have their own nukes. With the constant threat of invasion from the west, is anyone really surprised if they have nukes or not? So far I've only heard rumours of a nuke program. The only evidence I've seen is for nuclear power. But really, Australia is selling Uranium to India which has not signed the Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty and little fan fair is made about that. India nuking Pakistan is probably more of a worry than anything Iran is currently capable of.

    • Oh, I'm paying attention. This is the same strategy they used to sell the Iraq war. To hell with creating jobs, fixing the infrastructure, getting decent health care, fixing the education system, etc. Don't work on this country's problems. Let's start another war instead. The MIC is much more important. Get ready for WW3. War is the only thing left that we make anymore.....War Inc.

That's artificial. War creates massive malinvestment in the economy. All resources and capital are diverted to Military industries which for the most part destroys the diverted capital.

In economics this is commonly called the "broken window fallacy" among the general public it's one of the most persistent economic fallacies of our day.

Ok so that does make sense. That makes total sense, and I get it. But you fail to factor in that the money we spend on wars is money that is not already there or that the government has stored away. So by borrowing money in war time they in effect move pieces of the economy through time, so when the economy is good and there is lots of cash flow we pay it back but by spending now we put an immediate fix to a smaller economy. Though if you ask me, what we should be doing is saving while we have a good economy and then spending money we already have in the bad one. Borrowing presents the problem of paying it back, and it presents the problem of an unstable government. Plus once politicians know they can borrow for frivolous things they will. Look at us today, they borrowing for everything nothing is paid for, and no promise of said funds. But no one wants to listen to theories about living within ones means, people are to fond of the game of credit, even it does mean we always get burned.

Well that's malinvestment factor. The only pieces that are moved during war is military industrial complex, bomb manufacturers and any industry that becomes dependent on the Military industrial complex.

Once the war is over all the industries depending on war spending come crashing down. But it's much worse than before the war because the diversion of capital to the military industries during the war starved and killed off industries that didn't rely on war for money.

Not any more, war is just way too expensive! Especially the type fought in far off countries where transporting fuel and expensive equipment is both dangerous and susceptible to cheap IED attacks that destroy equipment and mame and kill soldiers. Jets and bombers constantly increase in price and even friendly fire can cause many millions of dollars in damage while killing servicemen. The outsourced supplies are charged at the highest rate imaginable and often for a substandard service. Many Trillions of dollars would be the minimum cost of such a war, and this is ten years after Bushes Iraq invasion, probably more expensive now.

Iran's borders must be considered too, as insurgents could move back and forth across a number of borders undetected. The terrain in parts of Iran is very hard to secure and smugglers have a great knowledge of tunnels and passes through mountain terrain. Iran is also a large country, strategically difficult to invade and even harder to secure.

Should't US "leaders" stop picking wars and start fixing everyday problems millions of Americans face everyday? Who's greedy interests our young boys protecting? Once again I do not understand exactly how did President Obama deserve Nobel Peace Prize?
