I predicted this in my comment below. I knew that he would not discuss it Before the elections but I still feel that After the elections he will come out in support of at least Medical Marijuana but it will still be up to Congress to change the laws.
Though of little help he at least didn't come out Against legalization. - 4 months ago

It isn't a serious issue, unless all you have to worry about is getting stoned. How about getting and keeping a job, feeding your family and your own ass, keeping a roof over your head? What about the costs of health care for your family? I guess if all you do is get stoned, you're not too worried about anything but running out of weed.
Priorities brother, priorities.

What about human rights? What about violence in Mexico? What about the millions of people who have had their lives ruined because of pot laws? What does that have to do with getting stoned other than it's a result of the government trying to prevent you from toking up?
Not a serious issue? I don't think you understand the scope of the whole topic...

I do understand the scope. If you want to get stoned, get stoned. But the medical marijuana bullshit stories, how it cures cancer, how the Big Pharma is trying to take it over, how it is completely harmless, et al, just a smoke screen. And violence in Mexico? Why that is all America's fault, if it wasn't for us, Mexico would be fuckin' paradise. What about the millions of people still standing in the same place 30 years later, still smoking, still not motivated to do shit?
If that's your bag, fine. But knock off the smokescreen (so to speak).
Lots of more important shit to worry about.

You just proved you don't understand the topic.
Personally, I do enjoy toking up in my free time. I'm a mechanical engineer, graduated with honors even and I was smoking all through college. You can't tell me weed makes people useless do-nothings. I've done quite well for myself and so have many millions of people all the way up to the president himself and all the way back to the rise of civilization thousands of years ago.
What you're doing is minimalizing it down to people just wanting to be stoned and lazy [read: generic cop-out] without actually comprehending the ramifications of laws that seek to stop people from doing it.
Our policies on drugs, especially cannabis, actually fuel some of the worst problems facing society such as cartel wars in Mexico which have claimed over 50,000 lives in the last decade and ruined countless more. It is estimated about 60% of the cartel profits are from cannabis alone. Cartels fuel mafias, street gangs, and even many otherwise law abiding citizens who are willing to break the law to cash in on an extremely lucrative market. One that hasn't gone anywhere despite all our government's apparent efforts and hundreds of billions of tax payer dollars. The government can't stop cannabis use, instead they are making many problems worse by putting all the control over inflated goods in the hands of lawless criminals. And these issues don't stop with Mexico. Millions of lives have been lost because of our policies influencing and pressuring other countries around the world to do the same.
Relative to the harm caused by prohibition, cannabis IS harmless AND actually does have far more important uses than just getting high. Food, fuel, fiber, medicine, and recreation... but thanks to people with your mentality we continue a futile and self-defeating policy of making cannabis use a criminal matter rather than a public health issue.

Well, you've got yourself convinced. As for my mentality, as you call it, it comes from experience. I know plenty of people that smoke weed, I used to smoke a shitload of it myself. And I know far more people that are de-motivated by it, than are successful despite their use of it. And, I don't know if you'll admit to this or not, I know probably 50 people with the medical marijuana recommendation, and maybe 1 of them has a legitimate reason for using it, glaucoma. The rest will freely admit that they told the doctor what the doctor wanted to hear, just to get their prescription, excuse me, recommendation.
You mentioned the drug cartels. Tell me, if you eliminate the legal issue here, and make it freely available, what are the drug cartels going to do then? You and I both know that they aren't willing to work, they want the easy money. What next? I'm not advocating supporting the drug cartels or anything like that, it's just that if they can't make money off of pot, they will find something else to bootleg outside normal society.
And smoking anything, is not harmless. And the food, fuel, fiber argument, well, the great majority if just recreational drug use. Which is fine, do what you want. I get drug tested now for work, and to me, it isn't worth it to lose a very good job over dope.
As I also mentioned before, there are much more important things to worry about than marijuana. Way down the list of priorities, at least MY priorities.

Or I can save you some time. Just found this on NORML's Facebook page:
NORML
Obama ignores the thousands of votes in favor of legalizing marijuana during his YouTube "Interview with the President."It is disappointing that, yet again, the administration has declined the opportunity to discuss the very serious issue of ending marijuana prohibition in this country. For the ninth time, the White House has solicited the American people for direct input on the issues they cared about and then, when the resulting answers called overwhelmingly for marijuana law reform, President Obama ignores the will of the American people on this burning issue. Over half of the country now supports regulating and taxing marijuana, we can only hope that during the general election the issue is addressed with the respect and urgency it demands. If things continue as they are, President Obama very well may earn the dubious honor of running to the right of his predecessor George W. Bush on the marijuana issue.

"Thus, drug companies want marijuana all to themselves because they know how effective it truly is. And they have worked hard to effectively block its legalization in whole form in the hopes that it can eventually corner the market on patented drug versions, which of course have the potential to reap billions of dollars in new revenue."

It never ceases to amaze me how many of these guys call for legalization after they retire. How about they refuse to enforce the law when they have a chance to actually affect change. Police officers pick and choose what laws to vigorously enforce all the time. Just look at the death threats on chat sites. This guy was a deputy chief, he must have had some juice.

I don't think Obama will answer it. It is too politically sensitive in an election year. I DO think that it is one of the most popular and important issues of our time but I think we will have to wait till After the elections to get Obama to give any real answer to the question of Marijuana laws.
We need to make the issue a “Tax Revenue” issue in as many States as possible and then we will just have to see what the Federal policies will be like Afterwards and fight for our Rights.LEGALIZE!

One of my questions to Obama on You Tube that was censored :
"How can you say you want healthy food when your USDA allows Monsanto, Dow, Syngenta, Bayer and BASF to control our food system with GMOs and toxic pesticides?"
The response on You Tube:
"This submission has been removed because people believe it is inappropriate."
Need to wonder what people? Censorship is what they believe in. I'm done with You Tube and all of these phony corporate tit sucking politicians.
Edit: Also, good for this gentleman. Industrial hemp ( natural not GMO) as well needs to be legalized for growth in this country to jumpstart manufacturing and environmental stewardship. Obama says he wants to bring manufacturing back, well what about our textile industry? What about sustainable agriculture? What about doing something to really get us off the fossil fuel treadmill?

Great question, isn't it appalling that such an important issue as our food supply has become a topic which even in a question form becomes censorship? When is the american public going to wake up and realize what is going on and how important this is? All we have to do is stop eating this junk. Don't buy it and l promise we can stop it.
Of course it was censored, he cannot answer that question, even with his gift of gab. We all know that, but it doesn't make me feel any better.

Of course it was censored: Monsanto is a part of the military industrial complex...

"Over the past several years, entities closely linked to the private security firm Blackwater have provided intelligence, training and security services to US and foreign governments as well as several multinational corporations, including Monsanto, Chevron, the Walt Disney Company, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and banking giants Deutsche Bank and Barclays, according to documents obtained by The Nation. Blackwater's work for corporations and government agencies was contracted using two companies owned by Blackwater's owner and founder, Erik Prince: Total Intelligence Solutions and the Terrorism Research Center (TRC). Prince is listed as the chairman of both companies in internal company documents, which show how the web of companies functions as a highly coordinated operation. Officials from Total Intelligence, TRC and Blackwater (which now calls itself Xe Services) did not respond to numerous requests for comment for this article. One of the most incendiary details in the documents is that Blackwater, through Total Intelligence, sought to become the "intel arm" of Monsanto, offering to provide operatives to infiltrate activist groups organizing against the multinational biotech firm."

The worst part is (well there are many worst parts) we just allow this kind of bs to continue. No way am I including you into the "we" part of my sentence above, matter of fact whenever I want to get to the heart of the Monsanto matter, I come here to Current and search out your recent entries, as I know you have the most up to date info. But, as far as the rest of us, I feel we must educate people, this is not some freaking conspiracy theory. Obama was probably not aware of how deep this entire food thing went until he was later briefed and that might be why he at first glance wanted to be our hero and label gmo food, then he found out it wasn't gonna happen. We are the only ones who make any change in our food supply and it will have to come through the concerned efforts of mothers across the land. I just hope it won't be too late? GMO is two fold; the insertion of (fill in the blank?) into our seeds and the heavy spraying of deadly chemicals on our planet.
btw...have you seen this? I ran across it last night? http://lucaslaursen.com/clips/brinjalbiopiracy.pdf
and this "The State Department is using taxpayer money to help push the agenda of Monsanto and its friends all across the world. Here's a recent example: Assistant Secretary of State Jose W. Fernandez, addressing an event of high-level government officials from around the world, agribusiness CEOs, leaders from international organizations, and anti-hunger groups said, "Without agricultural biotechnology, our world would look vastly different. One of our challenges is how to grow more crops on the same land. This is where biotechnology plays a role." he must have his finger crossed behind his back, right? ;)

It's apparent that Jose Fernandez isn't a farmer and knows little about soil biology. Not that I know everything either, but I do know this current GMO/ industrial method is stripping our soil bare of nutrients and causing a nitrogen/CO2 overload. Fingers crossed for sure. Perhaps if they left agricultural policy to people who actually know agriculture the world would be in a healthier place. And yes, I know Monsanto is being sued in India for biopiracy of brinjal traits. This I believe also dovetails now to support for ACTA.

IMHO, the war on cannabis and hemp are all due to the competition of a natural competitor. The war on drugs has eliminated their competition, while our politicians often spin madness to enable the continuous war on American soil.
Facts about cannabis hemp were removed from educational material, leaving people unaware of the history of the plant. It wasn't until I read the book, "The Emperor Wears No Clothes", that I learned the facts. I didn't know cannabis had positive American history. I do now! Anyone who reads the book will no longer be spun with rhetoric, by our politicians, who have used the war on drugs as a political tool, for political gain.
Facts matter. The truth matters more. I would like to thank the retired LAPD deputy chief of police, for having the courage to ask the question. It's time to end the war on cannabis and hemp and move along to a better tomorrow.
