I don't get why we have to go to war here. If we can mute the Israeli and Oil lobbies (big if):and indeed our only concern here is a nuclear armed Iran; then why not let Russia, China and India negotiate a nuclear inspection treaty with Iran. All three of these powers are already nuclear capable. None of them really wants a nuclear armed Iran: or they would have already transferred the technology. They are all oil customers of Iran--so that would solve the embargo problems. It seems to me with Russian, Indian and Chinese cooperation the US could just sit this one out. The alternative is Iran crosses the nuclear threshold and the US and Israel attack. Are there other options , I'm missing?

All those countries don't really care if Iran gets the Nuke because Iran would never use it on them and they don't really care about isreal (not to mention that the US opposed them all doing the exact same at some point in time).
Ultimately, it would cause a power shift in the region making Iran bigger and more important than the US's Saudi Arabia. India, China, Russia would kind of like that because then they'd be getting their oil from someone who is more important and reliable, while the US is would then be stuck with the little guy suffering from a inferiority complex.

Then why don't they just transfer the technology to Iran. Why doesn't' Russia build their centrifuges for them, or just transfer nuclear and rocket technology to the Iranians? We couldn't stop them.
